  • Great videos but now I'm finding myself waiting on the end of your videos to hear the angels harking and you asking your viewers to subscribe!!!

  • i dont know how any one can focus a camera looking through a normal view finder. i am almost always just a little off

  • PLZ STOP USING UR HANDS WEN U R TALKIN.. its soooo annoying.. wen u keep pointin at us or raisin ur hand with everythin u say.. keep ur hands steady man or it makes u look rele self-conscious

  • @PureFacts1 PLZ STOP BEING A TROLL WHEN ON YOUTUBE.. its soooo annoying.. wen u keep being a troll and not knowing how to spel corectly.. it makes you look like a rele big dong

  • @onelonedork why not just use the EVF for focusing in conjunction with the zoom? That way, you get the light blocking, and a closer image to the LCD. The prices on LCD hood loupes are dropping like a rock, and while the advantage may be minimal, for $20, it's a decent investment, even if you're only using it in bright light.

  • I DISAGREE! I made a custom bracket for my Hood Loupe and can get back focus. Hood Loupe for DSLRs is mandatory.

  • Hi, I have to disagree on this one. I got a 5d together with a Z EVF and I must say I CAN'T SHOT without it! Once in a while I go about doing some stuff using only a viewfinder for focus and I always regret not having used the EVF when I see that lot of stuff went soft. EVF makes things SO MUCH EASIER! I just shot a short film using the 5d an EVF and a Konova Slider and i used the EVF in EVERY SHOT because I had to - it was in a swamp and I just couldn't lay down to see the viewfinder to focus

  • after 2:11 this video becomes epic, I'd like to see a video of you making that hard-core face (I'm more surprised you didn't get lock-jaw doing that!), back to the "if you have time request" of making that face while eating cake? that'd be epic. seriously.

  • I use a carryspeed VF with my 60d, and I always use the magnifier to check focus WITH the VF.

  • There's another reason for using an EVF: documentary/run-and-gun filmmaking. I use my DSLR's for broadcast hunting/outdoor videography, and while the magnify feature is great and I use it as often as I can, when you're not on a planned set, you can't set focus marks.

I have the LCDVF on my t2i, but nothing on my 60D, and I get consistently faster and more accurate focus pulls on my t2i with VF.

  • Perhaps you can fire up that maker bot and come up with a non-magnified LCD hood. For bright day shooting that seems to be the only option.

  • Wow was the turtle getting curious at the end of your video? That was hilarious. Could you use some kind of interactive lighting with your SUBSCRIBE request? That would look like you're actually touching the ethic plane!

  • Awesome info I never saw it your way, no pun intended. Ive never fully used the magnify button.. going to start now. Thanks

  • I made one for free, just used some plastic cup and glas from a broken lens. the thing I like about it is not only that it takes away the sunlight, but also allows you to be closer to the screen. it also helps you stabilise your camera as it makes your face another anchor point. but yeah I do agree that it's not a must -have. when I'm using my rig of tripod, I usually leave it off.

  • Magic lantern has a zoom focus box feature which is pretty awesome

  • @cookwerth Can u zoom in to focus while recording on that magic lantern firmware?

  • @eladbari Yeah, a feature called magic zoom which basically does a little cropped zoom box that helps you to focus more accurately

  • @cookwerth Seriously?! so you have a small box with the cropped zoom preview on Live video recording!? This is Aweseome! I dont know if it saves you the need for a Naccuto Z Finder but thats amazing!

That magic lantern seems very complicated tho..so many options,,and so little thorough tutorials online...only people reviewing it very first & intial review without giving samples of how to use these features in real life. :\

  • @eladbari Yeah it is great for unlocking features that really could be there.

Its not too bad once you give it a crack, I have a tut on how to use 4gb cards and over for it but not properly installing- youtube should be full of em.

  • totally agree

  • i find them good for focusing while mid shot and also for stabilization if i havn't got anything else..

Bought one for $17 off ebay. :D I'll send you the link if you want.

  • @NitsanPictures $17 is a pretty good price.

  • @NitsanPictures Is this still out there for sale somewhere? I'd like one of those, if you could provide the link - that'd be appreciated. -Cam.

  • @CamBlogs This is the exact one I bought. Gone down to $15 USD :)

Can't link on YT comments, search ebay (or google) for: 170652395177

  • @NitsanPictures Sweet, thanks. Might get it, I have a 600D T3i, it's screen is a bit different so I'll have to check some stuff. I didn't think to look for no-name branded lcd viewfinders :P Thanks.

  • you can't zoom like that when you are recording only when the recording is paused =(

  • @TheRAZZITEAK Very true. I usually setup my focus points and maker them on a Follow focus before I start recording.

  • Well I tried out the zacuto evf on last weekend and it was fantastic. So easy to get focus! Also, the peaking function on it is amazing, sharpens the image so you really can see what is in focus. I'm going to have to disagree with you here I'm afraid!

  • @stinkymlinky I know my opinion is unpopular on this subject. Zacuto does make some good gear.

  • @onelonedork Yeh, well it's not exactly cheap though!

  • The problem is that x5 & x10 can't be used when filming only in live view

  • lol

  • cheers. however, you cannot zoom the image whilst shooting on my 7d; and the HDMI out provides 1080p to a monitor/EVF during shooting (unlike the 5dii, which I believe drops to 480p when you press record). Further a comparitively cheap LCDVF with 2x magnification is very helpful racking focus with the 7d lcd screen which is pretty sharp too compared to the 5dii.

  • I was under the impression that EVF was "Electric View Finder". Sone of these like zacuto an lcdvf's now one coming out has other features like zebra stripes for exposure and focus assist. Still don't know if its worth the cost.

  • Ive been saying the same thing for a while now! thanks for uploading. However, I think you forgot one other benefit of an EVF. If the the shot requires you to change focus in from one subject to another, you have trouble. You can only use the magnify buttons when you are not recording. Therefore I could see why one would want an EVF if they needed to rack the focus within a shot.

  • @onelonedork your very frank. I like that about your videos. you cut through all the delusion on whats "trendy". You also explain yourself well.

  • Also a viewfinder helps alot when pulling focusand it also acts as a stablizer.

  • I was already aware of this, although the magnification gets taken away when recording. So a viewfinder is still the best option

  • thumbs up for under 300 club :D

  • great tip

  • Fifth?

  • LOL

  • We can agree to disagree.

  • @CHAOSINRAIN Indeed ;)

  • @onelonedork And we can Agree to Agree.

  • last

  • first! =D
