@RobertTrew The best thing about Cracked.com is that they can show you epic music, which people already know are epic, and show people who's never heard of the music and make them love it. (Much like they did to me when they played Huh by 4 Minute.)
I swear the very first time I played this record I thought the speed was set to 45 because the drumming is really fast. Phil, Tony and Mike are music legends.
"Downing Grey" is hitting the stage soon. We are covering Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, Rush, ELP, UK, Pink Loyd, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Gentle Gaint and more... We are covering the great pieces from Genesis....Firth, Dance, The Lamb (all of it) .., Cinema, Watcher, Supers, Mad Man....you know the list.... and this song is actually being considered as it is great and the lyrics help us explain what happen to Genesis better than we can. Collins and Bruford are the very best! Come see us.
@codern They were in big debt with their record co. Phil helped the other two to pay that debt bringing his already commercially successful Pop formula to the band. If you have to blame someone for the change Genesis suffered, blame the record industry.
I'm glad future generations won't have to deal with greedy bastards with no talent, exploiting creative souls, now that the internet totally voids the need for their worthless existence.
All admit was iffy about this first track. Was kind of hard to swallow on the first listen. But once you understand the significance of all the parts its like a constant agressive hammering rollercoaster, and the sweet and sensitive undertones from the keyboard throughout make it a unique treasure for those who can really appreciate it.
@Marcuskristicus Marcus, Collins has never been underrated. He was chosen several times in 70 and 80 the best drummer in the world. My opinion is, that he IS the brilliant one, maybe the best prog-rock drummer - and good singer too. Unfortunately he turned to pop-side and burned out himself.
I just thought of a way to end the drug problem in the world. Give addicts a REALLY good set of headphones, one of superior quality. Have them listen to this song, paying particular attention to the bass, keyboards, percussion, and lyrics. We could end the drug problem on this planet in a hurry if we were to wake people up to real music.
Such an underrated album from Genesis. The point right after Hackett leaves but before they really get popular with Abacab, Genesis and so forth. This and Duke are very solid albums. The Keyboard solo is phenomenal, the drums incredible for the really odd time Phil's keeping, and Rutherford deftly moves into playing guitar as well as bass.
Exactly my feeling - After Duke, forget it - but these two albums after Hackett left were very good... This one, though, seemed to be the last one where Collins was interested in interesting drumming. Once he found that drum machine....ugh....

This song is epic, the sound rendition could be better though imo. But that drum line and persistent guitar riff, beyond awesome!

Brilliant and creative time signature on this song. And drumming on this cut right up there with Neil Peart.

@hrtonslv I prefer Phil Collins over Neil Peart anyday. He is the perfect drummer.

@Marcuskristicus I totally agree with you!! Apart from his brilliant solo career, he is one of the greatest drummers ever...
