Badfinger had some terrific songs. Joe Tansin of Badfinger (Airwaves, more) is still writing songs, he has some wonderful songs out. He is keeping the music coming!
I always liked this tune, thought it was great...until I heard the McCartney "demo". Man, even as sparse as it is (very few overdubs), the sound...THAT sound...is there. When his voice comes in, to this day, I get chills. Sorry Badfinger...but Paul's version is the one. Sure wish the Beatles had done this tune!
This is the BBCs Radio2s SoundsOfThe60s Beatles A-Z song for week startg SAT7AUG10. History of the song can be heard for 1week after Aug7. Written by Paul & a hit in USA & UK in1970 BUT for Badfinger, who Paul signed to Apple & directed them how to do it. Also used in movie that featured Ringo; 'Magic Christian'.Demo version eventually released in 1996 on Anth.3. Paul sings plays drums, piano, maracas & base Guitar.Recorded during sessions for 'Abbey Rd' on same day as Sun King & Mean Mr Mustard
Come and Get It is the song that McCartney gave to BADFINGER to jump start their career on apple records. This is a true rock classic by Paul McCartney, not Badfinger. Paul was the brainchild of "Come and get it". Still, Badfinger did a superb cover on this song. I will admit that.
Unfortunately the band had a manager who stole from them. The band was very popular and was groomed by the Beatles and signed with Apple. Their business agent controlled their finances and he was corrupt. Sadly 2 of the band members struggled as a result financially and wound up committing suicide about 8 years apart. The 2 were Pete Ham in 1975 and Tom Evans in 1983 and they were the creative force of the band. The drummer Mike Gibbins died in 2005. Joey Molland survives.
@ediann Thank you. I did look it up and your account is correct. The recording companies call the shots, even to the extent of the shit music we hear today. I do believe musicians are ripped off on a regualr basis, by these parasites. This includes their managers. Read Kathy Young's bio sometime. She had to sue to get just a bite of what was rightfully hers. Sweet singer from the 60's

No, a morbid story. About a quitter with talent.

@mattleemattlee123 I agree, but consider this IS live! But, Yes topping Paul on his own song is not usually possible.

Badfinger - one of the best groups ever,
but they had a sad and tragic story. I'm so sorry for this.

CHRISTIAN with Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr. anyone remember that?

@theo9952
Yes, I remember. I've seen the Magic Christian at least twice - but it's been over 20 years since I saw it last.
