I can't decide who's version I like better. I think the airy sounds in the Yoshida Bro's version gives an unfair advantage, but this version has a sort of, je ne sais quoi... a more folk-song feeling.
The Yoshida Bros are good players, but let's face it - their taste in Western rock is appalling. It's like bad muzak with shamisen played over the top of it.
Whew! I'm glad someone else finally agrees with me. The Yoshida brothers kick ass, but they need someone need someone with good taste to make them a mix tape or something...
So what if he doesn't "move" or "play" like the Yoshida brothers. You want to know why? Because he is not the Yoshida Brothers. He does not need to act or be like the Yoshida brothers just to play the Shamisen.
You want to know why the Yoshida Brothers do not play the Shamisen like Kevin? Because the Yoshida Bros. ARE NOT Kevin.
Kevin plays the shamisen like he does, and Yoshida brothers play the shamisen like they themselves do.
No one can surpass the Yoshida brothers? I do not think so! Each to his/her own style. Kevin did a nice job playing with wind blowing in the hair, call it itazura no kaze (^_^)
I see ppl are criticizing that Kevin does not move like Yoshida brothers do? Pls, this song is not Kodo inside the sun remix or RISING, it is not an energetic piece, Ringo Bushi is more melancholy, so you don't jump around when playing more serious pieces compared to energetic ones.
The big difference in his skills and the YSB is the body expression. Kevin got great skills but he seems so placid and not into it. Why makes it almost boring. Spend some time studying the body involvment of the YSB for instance, their body language speak more than their music expression.
Yes, this guy is great, but hate to tell you folks, he doesn't compare to Yoshida Brothers. Saw their concert in Hong Kong a few weeks ago. JAW DROPPING! Look them up...couple of their videos on youtube.
He is an awesome player. But I still believe that he doesn't compare to Yoshida Brothers. Obviously that means that I think YBS plays on a much higher level. Is that clear enough for you to understand mfuji01? lol~)

Talk sht about someone who isn't commercial.

just because Yoshida Brothers have gone commercial, that doesn't mean they've gone shit. You should check your own drawers before opening your mouth.
