It's actualy based on BOTH the second book and third book. The Cheshire cat, the White Rabbit and the Catterpillar did were not in the second book, but still appear in the movie anyway. Actually, it's not exactly based on the books. The movie serves as a sequel to the books, which I think ROCKS, especially if Tim Burton is directing it!

Why do they have to change everything so much? I love these books so much and i will go to see the film but why is it centred around the mad hatter when he is barely in the book, why do they all say "alice is back" when it's the first time she's been to wonderland, seeing as it's a dream she has anyway. Also I think that the "REAL" American McGee´s Alice movie is still in production but with another studio (dunno if it´s Universal or Fox or even Dimension Films) I know the sequel is supposed to be released sometime this year for the Xbox 360 and PS3

Tim Burton isn't the best or the worst director out there. there are better ones but, the thing that makes Tim Burton stand out is that he has his own unique way of filmmaking. everything he does is kooky and odd and frankly really beautiful even though some people wouldn't call the underworld in Corpse Bride beautiful. I'm really excited about this film. i'm a huge fan of the original and can't wait to see it revamped.

I really don't like the overload of animation, or some are calling 'CGI'. For me, when there is too much of it, a film looses its appeal to me. I understand it takes a lot of work to create it.

I like the point that someone made, that people just want to see 3d, things blown up, and new animation techniques. It's a disappointment that people only want to see this movie because Johnny Depp is tacked to it.

I prefer Edward Scissorhands to Charlie in the Chocolate Factory.

I love Disney's original animated Alice in Wonderland and I love the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory Gene Wilder movie, both a departure from the original material in tone and character but IMO superior. My hope with this Tim Burton remake is that he does not screw this movie up like he did with Willy Wonka which was like biting into a Wonka Bar that happen to have a chunk of foil in the middle. Ouchy on teeth fillings.
