  • Great live version of this great song!!!!!!

  • It's weird to see Ian here dress like his "first album era" self instead of his "second coming" style if anyone gets what im saying. brighter shirt as opposed to the loose darker stuff he started wearing during 1994-95

  • As much as I, like everybody else, was and still is in love with their first album. As much as people say the Second Coming flopped - that's absolute nonsense. This is as good as any Rock 'n Roll album as you've ever heard, it's just as one of the original Indie bands, we were all expecting something else. It highlighted versatility, if nothing else. The equivalent was expecting the Beatles to create a Guns 'n' Roses album but the SR did it regardless, with the same crowd -unappreciated.Top album

  • I wonder what style the new Roses material will be?... Not the Led Zep style that killed the roses......I hope.

  • @hofsteveO Second Coming was awesome! Clean out your fkn ears :)

  • @cinemar Second Coming was indeed a pretty awesome album but I think hofsteve0 is right in saying that the Stone Roses need to get back to the style their best at while adding in some fresh elements that will augment their classic approach

  • FUCK cant wait till next year see them live

  • wow, maddix is killing here!!!

  • @ThePelincrew indeed reni class ,,squire also etc etc but at last a maddix fan ,,,indeed my child maddix is fuckin killin it here AWESOME my dear child AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is the business. Best band ever

  • Less painting, more playing...

  • JOHN SQUIRE enough said!!

  • I can not put into words how fucking great this is.. oh wait, I just did!!!!

  • This would have been so much better with Reni behind the kit, he was 100 times better.

  • Squire is God.

  • @NickHalden .....and Ian is the Godfather

  • this is that damn good its impossibe to put it into words, the groove is fucking awesome... bloody amazing groundbreaking stuff

  • mani steamin

  • @cavernbirch Even before I knew what year this was, within a second or 2 I could tell that was Mani. Best drummer of all time for me..

  • @comanchio1976

Mate, Mani - he is on bass not drums...

It's not Reni either as he had already left the band earlier in 1995!!

The drummer is in fact Robbie Maddix. Reni, Mani and Squire - all quality musicians.

  • @arigby18 Yeah I meant Reni, isnt him though..was half asleep when I saw and wrote that.

  • @arigby18 this is reni douchebag

  • @troyleach1 Sadly Reni never toured with the roses for the second album, his last gig was glasgow green in 1990

  • @troyleach1 You're the douchebag for thinking it's Reni. Do your research next time.

  • @troyleach1 This is Robbie Maddix playing. Reni had already left the band.

  • loved Rennie, and Robbie, Robbie is certainly more techncally talented and added and sound of funk, jazz into this song, which really helped, his timing and skills show clearly, how can anyone insult such a talent, he did us proud as stone roses lovers, he kept things alive, and livened things up, great job.

  • This is 1 off my best songs from the MIGHTY STONE ROSES :)

    FUCKING GREAT TUNE

  • that's brilliant.

it looks like John wants to be centre of attention though.

  • awesome. wish I was there.

  • maddox wears a reni hat lol lol lol

  • as a drum teacher i think its fair to say i know what im talking about,,,reni was a goodself taought band member ,,, robbie on ther hand is different gravy ,, a session player of great calabre and groovies like a fucker,,,,,please dont talk shite and compare them it is unfair as there both good but its like calling man utd up against newcastle ,,, dont waste your bad breath!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Sydbar8 Was that even English? And you teach people things? Reni is always considered the drummer for The Stone Roses and always will be. He's by far better known and whilst Robbie Maddox is a good drummer, the general consensus is that Reni is better, more influential and a legend. Just because you apparantly teach drums and been to see TSR, doesn't make your opinion any greater than anyone elses. The Stone Roses are, and forever will be: Ian Brown, John Squire, Mani and Reni.

  • @secondcoming90 it was part gidianslate ,,, a dialect i am currently inventing its were you mix the art of talking shite with ,,,abusive opinions ,,,, and yes i do indeed teach ,,,,,, i am the most ifluential drummer in middlesox and am currently teaching myself ,,,, basic drums,,,, well i say drums i mean plum farming ,,but youve got to be in urt to win urt mmmmmmm

  • Musically tight as a button but you can tell the passion is starting to drift at this point in their careers, especially with Ian Brown.

  • Maddix is an alright drummer, the problem is he went up against Reni who is (to people who have a brain) possibly the best drummer ever. And there's a difference between 7/10 and 10/10.

  • @MrThreshold2009 get a grip you fuckin imbosele ,,,,reni was decent but robbie maddix is a session player the cream of the crop totally different class and extremely versatile ,,,grooving like a fucker if you dont know what your talking about you shouldnt speak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • fuckin pathetic live

  • I see your getting grief for this but ive got to say this is ace even if Rene aint present!!!

  • long live reni

  • pure fucking JAMMING...... manchester vibe in the area....

  • i dont think reni is even in this, he left in march 1995

  • Ian singing well for a change, great band...

  • Got this up to check out Reni...Robbie jobbie.

  • They always played good in Japan b/c of the strict drug laws. You can tell that Ian hasn't smoked out, for a change.

what the hell, is Robbie wearing a Reni style floppy hat?!

  • Reni is a god. Always sounds so inspired. Irreplacable Reni.

  • @rickstill122 it aint reni drumming on this! its robbie maddox

  • @solarizer I am embarrassed. Do you think maybe he borrowed Reni's hat and tea for this gig? That would make me feel better.

  • @rickstill122 yeah lets just say the hat threw ya! ha

  • @solarizer Yes. This time, I admit I really fucked up. Thanks for not telling me off!

  • @rickstill122 you must stand in the corner facing the wall and think about what you have done! ;)

  • Arggggh i fucking love this! Mani's bass intro makes my knees shudder FUCKING LOVE THEM!

  • drums A+

  • Squire killed the roses it was all about him in the end and how many riffs he could get away with , listen to their debut its 4 guys bustin their balls TOGETHER and while Second Coming aint that bad its all about one guy trying to be Jimmy Page.

  • @KingHotdog dont entirely agree with that mate, a new age of sound arose, and squire tried to adapt to it best he could, andi think he hit it straight on the head!

  • @joel1234567891012131 we can agree to dissagree i just hope u didnt like squires solo albums which would make u a mark coz his solo stuff was rancid

  • @KingHotdog true but if u can pull it off bro why not

  • best band... legendary...

  • I fucking love my Manchester. Coolest City on earth.

  • brilliant band and song, john squire is a GGGG mate! F-in ove the guys guitar playing, its just a shame brown seems really un happy and like he's not quite there for this song, but the instrumental is fat, the bassist is lovin it!

  • geraldine1 - Thanks a lot for sharing this video! It's F-in awesome! Love Stone Roses!

  • this is fantastic, squire is at his best playing stuff from the second coming, as is mani. the songs just weren't as catchy and they left it far too long.

  • Only get quality like this in the republic of Mancunia!

  • i went on this tour, the tour with 2 tour buses,.1 for ian ,1 for john, john's was the cocaine bus,..the beginning of the end, though they still sounded good, even with out Reni,.though he was the probably the most talented in the band,..

  • lol why the fuck isnt the crowd going mental :P another class performance from the Roses

  • Squire is a god

  • simply stunning, all talented beyond anything i think this country has ever seen in my opinion.. Also, id like someone to find me a Roses song, live or recorded that i can skip on my iTunes lol im not sure its possible.. Greatest british band that has ever lived

  • The drummer is good but the chemistry was gone. By this time everything was starting to really come apart. You can still hear a lot of the genius that made the Roses legendary. There was still so much talent there I still would take the Roses over Oasis anyday I still love the Stone Roses to this day but at this time The Stone Roses were on their way down and it hurts to say that.

  • Nobody could replace Reni. Maddix was on a hiding to nothing. The main problem with Robbie was: he didn't have an ounce of Swing. Yeah, he was unremitting and funky but without Swing he just spoils the groove. Admirable attempt though.

  • IAN BROWN MESSIAH!!!!!!!

  • Whatever became of Alan Wren

  • Chad Smith out of the chilli's sounds alot like Robbie Maddix. Why is everyone having a go at Maddix, This song Sounds Fucking awesome with his style, yes different but both reni and maddix are class acts!

  • @Gandroc @Gandroc The problem is Reni's such an exceptionally gifted drummer, no matter how good Maddix was it was never going to be special. Frankly listening to this I wouldn't be even slightly bothered to be there live, but I'd kill to be there for Reni.

  • i couldn't agree more

  • Shoddy camera work and not very good resolution, but worth every minute none the less!

  • Pretty good version. Not the same without Reni. It was effectively over then. Maddix is a top drummer. Unremitting, funky but with no Swing. That's what set Reni apart and elevated those Roses songs.

  • very smooth! the roses 'live' : my arse! not 'avin it for a min

  • Reni was the real star in the roses, and to be fair Maddix isnt a bad drummer. He just had massive shoes to fill.

  • What a shame!!!

What could this band have been with a showman like, for example, BILLY IDOL....?

    HORRIBLE!!!!!

GREAT BAND - with the worst of the worst frontman ever.

    EEEEEEEEEEEEVER!!!!!

    Sanguru

  • Frankly? I HATE HIM (now...). Any single amateur-band singer could do a much-much-much-much better job!

I would not be surprised, if "HE" caused the end of the band, or stood in the way of the bands success - something they had really deserved!

Such a "handicapped bastard" is able to fuck up the whole show and I can hardly look at my screen, when seeing this "old man" (polio maybe????) handling his wasted bones!

  • I am not saying - and I say that for the critics - that posing is worth more than singing, hell no!!!

But this is a rock-song. One of the finest. And to see a singer who does not know where to put his hands (instead both of them at the mic) is a shame, is a loss, is wasted!

  • This singer is the biggest non-poser I have ever seen. Had I been in the band? I had kicked his stupid ass during any single gig. Even my grandfather - and he is 75 - moves more than he does. He, this singer, takes out any, fucking aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaany speed and power of this song!

  • THIS COMMENT COMES IN VARIOUS PARTS!!!!

This is one of the best ROCK-SONGS ever - there is noooo fucking doubt about it. But only here and for the first time, I saw the STONE ROSES "live" and....?

  • so why no stack for black on the the radiostation in this the city...........

being going on so long ,level on the line i'm a leaf on the vine of time:

black bones are the original bones.....

  • I'll keep it brief - you are just a fucking brain dead stupid cunt, now fuck off and die you little prick

  • you must have such a small dick!!

and you're an ugly virgin too

what a shit combination that is suicide boy

  • Comment removed

  • Anyone heard the Daybreak demo? It's pretty much live, and shows what they would have sounded like on tour if Reni hadn't left. Sounded infinitely better than this pile of turd - Maddix missed the point completely. They would have ruled the world if Reni had stayed.

  • i totally agree! the 2nd coming demos is so sweet, just wish it was better quality. maybe mine is just too copied, but yeah, love reni's playing on all of that. nothing against maddix personally, but he just isnt as fluid or graceful or i don't know what. he's just not reni. oh if only reni had stayed longer and played live on 2nd coming! that would have been right. and too bad ian had checked out for most of the 2nd coming tours. he just isn't into it like he was on the early live stuff.

  • Fabulous organ work by Nigel Ippinson here! Hats off!

  • yeah,i saw Maddox, and he was class with em,he wasnt Reni, but who is,but he didnt have long to get into the album,he was thrown in at the deep end,..and this sounds well funky with Nigel Impson on the keyboared,....!!!

  • thanks for posting this. RENI'S THE BEST. MISS HIS PLAYING IMMENSELY. Line up was perfect till one of them got too big headed.

  • I love this, it sounds great even with robbie.

But It's a pity Reni did not tour with that album.

    Keep on keeping on

  • Ian sounds great here

  • listen, lets just remember the stone roses as they were, not who they became with the new members. they obviously could never be as as good as they were after squire and reni left so just leave it at that eh? AND LETS ENJOY THE MIGHTY STONE ROSES AS THEY WERE!!!

  • john is amazing in this performance, and hes so laid back, its just effortless

  • They are a fantastic band, when Reni left though it just wasn't the same band. Robbie is a great drummer session style and has a RnB swing to him. Reni just is, a great natural genius drummer, no tricks or clever stuff just pure natural genius, the reason I donned the drumsticks in the first place. The second coming has some great tunes but not the beauty of "The stone roses" album.

  • HOLY FUCK!!!! this band is the best band ever made.

  • @toughasjohnjacobs the greatest Northern British band ever!

  • @toughasjohnjacobs

    better than HOLY FUCK?

  • @toughasjohnjacobs Stone roses rules

  • Robbie Maddox is an underrated drummer. Reni's shoes were hard to fill, and in the end Robbie was proberly the best man

  • Maddox does a half decent effort considering the short amout of time he had to get it all, but he's nothing compared to Reni. Listen to the latter on Second Coming. Effortless genius, fluid, natural. Maddox is trying way too hard and not getting anywhere.

  • what a load of shit mate, check out drummers, reni up there wi the best no robbie sorry bud

  • @maddoglinz robbie maddix is streets ahead,,,,totaly dofferent style of stickssmith you dick renis a self taught band member robbies session player you dick its like lennox lewis fighting you you cock no comparison ,,oh n im a massive fan and a drum teacher btw seen em 21 times so i know what im talking about !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what a video slickkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

  • awesome

  • You really are the most boring type of twat. Using the word simple suggests that aybody can create it. If anybody could then there would be more music like this. Just because a band becomes popular or revered it doesn't make you a sheep to like them-it just makes you a pretentious idiot not to (for that reason alone that is). This song has a more of a groove than any band makin music today is capable of. Awesome guitar playin but truly dreadful waistcoat.

  • Best i've heard them play! live that is! *****

  • your forgetting the crimson tonight ep, easily the best performed second coming material

  • Reni left cos he fell out with Squire and was pissed off that he was dominating the tunes on the second coming and also taking control of the band. I heard they have made up and would be up for a reunion as too would Mani, Only prob is Ian Brown who sees it as a step backwards as he's had a successful solo career to date and so far is working on his next LP. I think Squire would need to apologize to Brown for how he left the Roses and 'stabbing Ian in the back and leaving him to sink'. So

  • john squire did call it at exactly the right time though. he left a sinking ship, theyd disentegrated and ian brown shouldve left it there too.

  • Do you mind me asking where you got this footage from? I can't believe that I've never seen this footage before. I assume the whole gig was filmed - available anywhere do you know?

  • classic.

  • was there for the first time round and cant see how oasis got big big roses wannabes tightrope will be played at my funeral one love!

  • great roses....

  • Squire chose to leave as I think he couldn't envisage a future for the Roses and wanted to branch out so he could stamp his own authority fully. Also they were all on different drugs at the time and as its well known, can mess up ur head.

  • LONGSIGHT MANCHESTER HAHA

  • I think Squire felt that his musical ability was being held back by Ian's limited vocals, but only he can explain why he left the roses to form the fuckin seahorses????? As bad a singer as brown is his solo work pisses all over anything of squires.

  • i saw them in cambridge dec95.coked of my nut

  • does that make you proud. dick

  • this is my fave roses song...aandsome!

  • Best band of my generation by a long long way, these tunes would stand up with anything today - True gods!

Any commkents reagrding singing or any other rubbish, just don't get it and never will -0 Which I for one am glad about

  • Reni left cos he grew tired of John Squire dominating the band during the Second Coming era. Also I think he thought the Roses had left to too late, the second coming was released five years after the first album was released

  • I'm a huge Roses fan. Briefly, they stepped into the Led Zep league. There are many myths as to why they broke up. Here are some of my theories: Squire/Brown stopped being brothers & writers, they had no manager to whip them into shape, all 4 of them were on different drugs- Reni on smack, Squire on coke, Brown on weed, Mani on booze, meaning the groove got scattered. And hearing this live version without Reni and his jazz, shuffle chops & energy, no wonder they split up. It ain't the same.

  • Maybe Reni left to call their bluff and hopefully to pull them together again. But Geffen played the old 'you don't need them John, you're way better' Plus Squire lost his groove. He went bland dad rock. SQUIRE YOU NUT JOB. YOU HAD THE BEST BAND SINCE LED ZEP. Now you're a recluse painter. Hold your hands up dude, you still got time. Maddix made a good fist of it here, its a cracking recording. The band are on form. Its just missing Reni's jazz/rock swing shuffle. Man, i miss that drummer.

  • Maddix just seems so bland compared to Reni, wooden and banal. An unenviable job to take on the role, really. The problem is that this song is based around Reni's drumming, he power's the whole thing. Effortless genius is.

  • why did reni leave?

  • Gran tema.

  • if i was unfortunate enough to do a tom hanks and find meself on a deserted island i hope i was fortunate enough to here this song one last time....somehow :0

  • who gives a fuck what his singings like what are you a fucking x-factor judge, manchester music aint about puting on a fake amarican accent, this is a fucking tune

  • who gives a fuck what his singings like what are you a fucking x-factor judge, manchester music aint about puting on a fake amarican accent, this is a fucking tune

  • Brilliant, always been one of my favourite roses songs.

  • i think it was always gonna go downhill when reni left.

  • thanks for uploading, this video is the absoloute tits! brownie sounds awesome! I could listen to the 1995 era versions of Daybreak and Love Spreads all day long! amazing guitar work from squire.

  • It's good music because they're all talented musicians, even without Reni, but Squire's guitar goes on and on and on to the exclusion of everything else and it's the same on the 2nd coming. He clearly developed a massive ego and virtually every song is his chance to show off. It gets dull after a while. The 1st album era stuff shows more economy and better songs, rather than this Led Zep heavy rock...

  • incorrect, first album an excellent preliminary showcase and goes without saying that they were at top by the release of their first album, i mean i am resurrection and countless other gems. However, the second album was far more virtuous, absolutely immaculate musically, they were tip top by the 2nd comming and it was a shame that it wasn't accepted because everyone was looking for the first album again.

  • Objectively the debut album is regarded by all the critics as the best - and indeed by many as one of THE best albums of all time. It always features prominently in best of albums by NME, Q, Rolling Stone etc. whereas the 2nd album does not. Whilst not being bad at all, it is actually very deriative of Led Zep and lyrically cliched - go check out the reviews. Still, it doesn't really matter, if you love 2nd coming, good for you.

  • I find it interesting that you use critics' opinions as a basis for questioning Second Coming whilst also relying on the old 'it sounds like zep' also favoured by critics. Zep comparisons are just lazy. Course the influence is there but I hear as much if not more Hendrix and even funkadelic in Squire's second coming era playing. Page could never be funky!!!

  • When the stone roses 1st album came out the critics said it sounded like the byrds and they didn't like that either.A critics opinion after about 2 listens isn't worth shit.

  • What can one say to this?!!! Fucking indescribable genius!!! Beyond all comprehension and words!!! Fucking love you guys!!!

  • always being my favourite song ever!

  • Each to their own, but I thought this is one of the weakest Roses songs ever, it sounds like a jam session. Surely anything on 1st album is better? Squire's guitar gets on my tits after a while on this album, it's so over-done - he's a brilliant guitarist but shows no economy with it like on the first album...

  • Reni`s got a completely different & smoother style. This guy`s drumming harder..He`s good but Reni is Reni,& the Roses without him is like Zeppelin without Bonham.Peace out...

  • fucking great tune, squire is the best guitar player of his generation..

  • "keep on keeping strong, keep on keeping on"!

  • this is one of there finest songs ! magic thats what that is !

  • One of the best songs of the 90's in my opinion.

  • Its not Reni

  • tis robbie maddox.

  • that tit ippinson on keyboards ruins it for me with his shit organ-syle loafing

  • the fucking guitarist is the genius bassist is kool and grooving and percussion is dancing beat singer can't sing live

  • Ian Brown can sing live, but when making the second album john squire went on a ego trip and surrounded the stage with guitar moniters. Ian couldnt hear himself mate, so learn your facts.

  • Ian brown could NEVER sing! you only have to look at the videos on here so don't talk utter bollocks.

  • on the stage were you?

  • the roses sound great live. Ian's live sound not what I expected though. still, could have no other up front for a reunion. but why are the Stone Roses compared to the Smiths? apples and oranges.

  • WHAT CAN U SAY!!

  • The Stone Roses blow any band before and since them out of the water. Best band in the world ever. Ian Brown best frontman, absolute legend and he is still making great tunes.

  • Hmmmmmmmm Sorry but the stone roses are not better than the smiths . They are great I also love them but you have exagerated.

  • It doesn't really matter - they're both very good bands indeed, certainly both streets ahead of another Manchester band who have sold more records. Both the Smiths and Roses had their strong points, but both were bands that are still revered to this day. Let's just enjoy their music and not worry about who's best!

  • perfect rythm! But Ian so poor for the live...

  • What the fuck is backbeatbobby on about? Reni is one of the least underrated drummers ever. He's brilliant, and everyone knows it - Critics, fans, even people who for whatever reason don't love the Stone Roses as I do.

What a video - I could listen to these four jam on this for hours.

  • why dont all u smiths fans fuck off, this is a roses vid nobody cares what u think

  • reni is massively underrated

  • to talented to stay together.... they had to give others a chance cause they simply piss all over everyone with mancunian genius

  • roses are the best....they know it

  • The Smiths are 1.35 times better than the Stone Roses, 1.243 times better than Oasis, and actually better than themselves statistically. But there's only a 50/50 chance of that. I have a venn diagram to prove it, too.

  • roses wer the fukin boys.smiths r gud.

  • People reckon Oasis are better than the Stone Roses. Okay Oasis and i'm a fan of theirs too but I always say the Roses were better cos they had better quality to their music, 1 stone roses tune is worth like 5 Oasis tunes. The Roses had better musicans Reni one of the best drummers ever, Mani amazing bassist, need I say anything bout John just a total guitar genius and Ian well peeps knock his voice but as a lyricst he is tops.

  • None of them both. The Stone Roses were better than oasis , and a lot more influential than oasis. But the Smiths are still ranked above them both.

  • this band i've been a fan of for 15 years but ther is 1 band who is better stone roses 2nt the smiths jhonny marr influaced squire,as good a guitarist squire is marr is better song writer with morrisey, but nonetheless stone roses r close second

  • let me argue that the smiths were better than the stone roses. But I tend to agree.

  • tune or wat fucking come on roses (R.I.P)

  • fucking fan bloody tastic
