  • I think the fans back then would be the same as when the fans now didn't want Tennant to leave

  • Tom- MY Doctor!

  • The best Dr Who .....

... sadly the latest Dr Who fans have only seen David Tennant and rate him higher. Little do they know.

Dr Who's true glory days were made by Pertwee and Baker of the '70s/'80s

  • @fulconer He might be the best actor who plays The Doctor, but The Doctor is still alive...he keeps going, and we shouldn't think of the glory days but of the present. It's like when we get older and we keep going back to our 'glory' days and comparing them to the days now...let's not do it. Let's just see the awesome-ness of today, and remember the past as it was with no comparison to the present.

  • @Maniacsflower Agree.

  • @Maniacsflower The this is we are immortal, and we all die one day and we cannot escape that fact.

  • @rojblake82 your comment doesn't make sense to me....especially in relation to mine. Are you saying that since we will die eventually, we should think of our glory days? Or are you agreeing that we should live in the present?

  • I find it hilarious that he is wearing a suit like ten's..........

  • be Dr who- the 12.again y/n-''jelly baby's''

  • This should be put onto the Logopolis DVD. It's excellent.

  • anyone know the name of the series in Dr. Who where Tom Baker plays and he is on a space ship that has a screen that he pass through to get to other worlds? I believe k-9 was still around for this series, but not sure about Romana

  • @MultiStuart1975 Hi, if you're refering tho the one that's seen in this video that episode was Warrior's Gate, where he goes through a mirror in what looks like a castle. They have a similar sceen on a space ship, where he is going through a screen in Nightmarre of Eden.

  • Wow, I remember when I saw Logopolis as a little kid. I was so sad, I don't think that I talked for days. I recently saw logopolis again for the first time in 30 years, and I was amazed at how great it was, and how brilliant Tom Baker was in it. That episode was so good, but it has such a melancholy forshadowing that makes it very difficult for me to watch, evem now. I refuse to watch the end of it. I can't stant the sight of the 5th doctor in Tom's jacket and scarf.

  • I was terribly sad because the greatest Doctor left us. Then the last 45 seconds and I was so happy.

  • tom baker is forever dr. who. period.

  • I love the Fourth Doctor, and he had a really good finale. Shame it was in a boxset with Castrovalva so the regeneration could have been a surprise

  • The last 47 seconds made my life...

  • he is waring davids suit

  • I loved that plum scarf!! classic. have my own copy.

  • I wonder if any other doctor will ever beat 7 year In the TARDIS?

  • @penninefilms Tennant Did 5

  • @GetGlueGuy Yes so did doctor number three..

  • @penninefilms I did not know that

  • @GetGlueGuy Thanks for the reply.

  • @penninefilms no i'm being serious i didnt kniw that i only know a little about the classics

  • @GetGlueGuy Ok. all I can say is the classic doctor who is much better then the one TV know.

  • @penninefilms well that is an opinion and you mistook now for know

  • @GetGlueGuy Oh well I can't get it right all the time but thanks for Ponting that out to me.

  • @penninefilms Your welcome :)

  • I love Tom Bakers comments at the end, totally nuts but u cant help but love him

  • This was so much better than anything New Who came up with.

Wny no scenes from State of Decay?

  • Quite, quite pissed. Bless 'im.

  • Moffat's stories I'm refering to bitting..LOL

  • I remember when logopolis aired on public tellevision. It was sad for me too, although I'm glad I didn't see that comming at the end ,I hadent heard he was leaving the show, and I probly would have felt like avoiding the final episodes if I had know, and would have regretted it latter,I'll say I liked david tennant, and I'm dissapointed in the Matt Smith series for the dumb writting and quite frankly he's too young to play this role. To hear Moffat doesnt like tom well no wonder the stories bite

  • Matts okay but he is no where near as good as Tom. And Steve Moffats stories are getting dumber all the time. Including the so-called cliff-hanger that most of us saw coming a mile away. anyone who was shocked by it haven't been paying attention to the posts here on youtube. Baker years rock. They weren't about shocking us, or trying to trick us. It was just about entertaining us. And I hope Tom will consider appearing in the 50th anniversary. But not if Moffat writes it. He doesn't like Tom.

  • They really should have ended the show when Tom left.

  • all the new series doctors draw their inspiration from baker esp tennant and smith

  • @twistedrunes Actually Tennant modeled himself very much after Peter Davison.

  • Well done video, but your title at the end has spelling errors. Two words should be spelled "ENTERTAINMENT" and "INFRINGEMENT."

  • everyone on here's saying that tom baker was different as the doctor in his final series, in wot way exactly?

  • @jhibbitt1 He looked thinner and he came off as more tired and world weary in his performance. He was less the enthusiastic bohemian and more of a seen it all type in his last season.

  • great video great song well done truly amazing

  • @marcsharp82 No, the worst thing to happen to Doctor Who: John Nathan-Turner.

  • @zazozung I get the impression the BBC had stopped caring when they gave JNT the job. I can't help but think had they cared enough to find a producer better qualified and had faith in them, we wouldn't have ended up with such a narcissistic control freak as JNT who'd deliberately court and engineer disaster to thrive on crisis management and make himself appear the hero/victim against impossible odds. A qualified producer with the BBC's faith behind them, would ergo not have something to prove.

  • John Nathan-Turner destroyed the 4th doctor's costume and personality. Baker pretty much left the series because JNT wanted to cast his own doctor.

  • The final season of Tom Baker's Dr Who has always held together as a great swan song to the best Doctor ever...

  • he was to the dr who what sean connery was to 007

  • The best. The only. The actual.

  • My favorite was Tennant and when he left i thought the show would be ruined but i saw Matt smith and now he is my favorite doctor (btw the show was ruined in the 5th season because there was a new doctor, Tardis, sonic screwdriver, and companion).

  • @929Ezio Really? Imo it was during season 3. 3 and 4 ruined Tennant for me, because it felt like in every single episode they had the same things happen over and over, and Tennant was only their little melodrama/heartbreak provider. Tennant lost the "doctor spark" that makes the doctors be able to handle the turmoil of their lives.

  • he had the longest time as the doctor seven years and im only ten and i new that

  • Should any of us live our lives as The Doctor? Anyone can who wants to. Would it become a "religion" if enough did?

  • And, yes. Tom Baker is still Doctor Who if he wants to be. He was a great one. Maybe he still is. Tom Baker for Prime Minister of Great Britain.

  • Very nice video. Great music. Fits right in. The girl interviewing Tom Baker sure has poor posture. Shoulders back and down, chest up and out. The picture where he's standing on a platform with persons in red or purple around him. Is that where he became the head of the Time Lords? Anybody remember that?

  • 5 stars and faved

  • music goes very well with this

  • How ridiculous is it to argue about 'the BEST Doctor'. It doesn't mean anything... Everyone has their favourite and that's as it should be. Most of them have been very good indeed. I personally will always prefer Tom Baker because his personality, charisma, wit and looks (the hair, the scarf, the outfits, come on!) appeal to me. That's it... Also, despite being described as a complete basketcase or maniac, he seems one of the most sane people I've ever had the good fortune of listening to...

  • i wish the 4th Doctor could appear in the 50th Anniversary Special, even if he just stands at the Tardis console barking instructions to Matt Smith's Doctor XD

  • notice the pin strip suit look like tens brown one

  • although the season started off weak with Leisure Hive and Meglos, the last 5 are among the best of all DW old and new

  • ;@MagicKirin Oh, strongly disagree. Logopolis was probably the most boring story I've ever seen, rivaled only by Castrovalva.

Give me Seeds of Doom anyday.

  • @AlexGatesMate

Seeds of Doom was 2 epsidoes too long. I liked Logopolis and it's partly as there were no internet fandon so to see Tom Baker leave was a surprise.

  • if i was botn back then tom baker woukd of been my doctor of the 70's and early 80's just like everyone else back then

  • Whilst Tom baker was pretty good as the 4th Doctor, I don;t think he was the best. His first 4 seasons were great, but after that his doctor became silly there was to much humor.

  • Tom Baker - you really believed the Doctor was an alien. I started watching Doctor Who when Pertwee was the Doctor. They've all had their moments. Eccleston deserves high praise, indeed, but Baker will always be THE DOCTOR.

  • No mistake, Tom Baker is the best Doctor, but Chris Eccleston will always be my Doctor.

  • @Dracoa79 You mean Christopher "Wham, bam, thankyou ma'am, but I'm afraid of being typecast!" Eccleston who dumped the show after only 13 episodes and only 8 hours of footage? I don't even *count* Eccleston as *being* a Doctor. In my view, Sylvester McCoy was the 7th, and David Tennant was the 8th. Otherwise, you might as well count Rowan Atkinson, Joanna Lumley, and the others from "The Curse of Fatal Death". Eccleston was a nonstarter. And not even particularly good during his brief stint.

  • @sbergman27 Most agreed, also, I think Eccleston didn't suit the role, in my view he was too working class.

  • @JoeConcerts After much consideration, over the years, I think I would have to say that TB is my favorite doctor, followed by Pertwee. The only ones I really don't like are Troughton and CB. But my favorite episodes are a different matter. I get tired of pretty much all the others, including (especially?) the new series... but the first 2 seasons, with Ian, Barabara, and Susan, I can watch over and over and never get tired. WH wasn't my favorite Doctor, but somehow the ensemble just worked.

  • @sbergman27 Thats interesting, I know Troughton is loved by majority of whovians, but he does have a clownish way about him don't you think, my favorites are SM and TB joint, although if I were held at gunpoint and told name your favorite Doctor, it probaly would be Mccoy just. And I do think the Hartnell years were very good aswell, Hartnell is my 5th favorite Doctor.

  • @sbergman27 I'd like to see those episodes. I bet you're right about that ensemble.

  • oh my doctor always will be

    thanks for making this >.<

  • am i the only person who thinks they should have just kept with the old opening

  • @ryananderson280195 Not by a long way! Older was way better.

  • @ryananderson280195 You should meet my dad.

  • @ryananderson280195

I agree the old opening or more accuratly the first Tom Baker one

  • Tom Baker IS Dr. Who for me. all the others pale in comparison.

  • Very nice, I love this guy:)

  • yep!! you forgot to mention that (until season 5-6) of the "new" season of Dr Who Dr Tom as I call him was and is the "only" Dr Who period ,. 'NuffSaid"

  • This outfit is the BEST ever.

  • @ zeroromenace... So true, its a pity the radio tower didnt fall on top of him as well. . Such an overrated dr.... David Tennant all the way followed by davison.

  • @djdaz831 Tennant kept getting his heart broken over and over, to the point where Dr. Who was getting boring and predictable. The writers really nerfed his character.

  • Comment removed

  • im so glad he fell off that tower at the end.. it was the only way to knock the ego out him.!! lol.

  • Tom Baker IS Doctor Who to me and always will be. So much charisma, those eyes!

  • Great vid,you missed "state of decay" off it! Tom was and is still the best!!!

  • My favourite Doctor, made my mother knit a Dr Who scarf for me ,ended up 17 ft long.

  • he was the best dr, of them all the one thing we all over look is no one can play the dr.people that try will fall short its not somthing u can act out

but with each new actor comes a new dr.

but if all tryed to act like tom baker thay would only scrow it up

  • I am so surprised how well this song works with the vid. Tom Baker...he is the doctor. David was cute, Christopher was fun, but Tom...it's all about Tom.

  • This Doctor was my fav but i loved them all my parents could not afford to take me to see Star Wars or afford cable but we got the BBC channel somehow and this was my fav show.

  • Cool mixit. Nice work. He'll always be THE Doctor to me.

  • I hadn't seen Tom as the Doctor in sometime. I forgot superb he and Lalla Ward were and how much I had missed seeing them in those roles.

  • i knew when john nathan turner took over as producer doctor who would take a down turn plus there were major problems at the BBC too many people wanted to cancel the show and they tried their bloody best to do it too but, as always the fans have always pulled the show through its roughest times. if i only could have been producer for doctor who when tom baker did his last series i would never have put those tacky question marks on his lapels or cast peter davidson as the fith doctor.

  • I meet him in waitrose his hair is grey now and not as puffy but he looks much the same.

  • I don't know why anyone would complain; i think you have made a genuinely heartfelt and fitting tribute that all the makers and fans of the show would be proud of.

  • I always thought Dr Tom deserved a better death falling off a tower. something more cosmic for the longest serving Dr. seems appropriate.

  • @kortick50 Well, you have to consider that the unfairness of it all was what made it so heartbreaking and wonderful. I mean, look at how they got rid of Tennant: they made it so that he could pretty much say goodbye to everyone, and in the end it was lame and cheesy. I'm quite disappointed with it. That and they kept going on about it in several episodes beforehand.

  • @NerdilyDone that is a valid point, tennants was by far too heavy handed. however Tom Bakers leaving was more having to do with Nathan Turner taking over and wanting to re do things in his vision. Like the Master played by Roger Delgado, it was planned to have a dramatic final showdown with him and the doctor in which he dies, but the question was did he sacrifice himself to save the doctor? his death ended that story. Bakers death could have been better, but not done like tennats, i agree.

  • nice job

  • Well, I think it's sad to see everyone disregarding all the other actors who played the Doctor too, treating Tom Baker as the only good one. All of the actors who played the Doctor have a place in greatness to me. They were all brilliant in their own way.

  • @Red23791 Treating Tom Baker as the only good one. Well everyone has their favourite Doctor, you should expect hyperbole every now and again.

  • @Red23791 Couldn't of said it better myself - Tom Baker was indeed a unique, brilliant Doctor, but all of the Doctors - even Matt Smith - had something new and fantastic to add to the programme. It's for this reason I always have trouble when people ask who my favourite Doctor is. I recently bought Logopolis, and it was very sad to watch Tom Baker's seemingly invincible, imposing and mercurial Doctor accepting his unjust fate.

  • Nelly furtado and Tom Baker, sweet.

  • He was amazing!

  • I love the scene at 0:58.

  • He's totally making a move on that interviewer.

"Why don't we step into the TARDIS for 2 hours?"

  • "Yes! I don't look quite as young as I used to do, but I thought that was VERY good!"

From Tom Baker's remarks (contained in The Tom Baker Years Part 1) on a clip from "ROBOT", his first adventure as the

    4th Doctor.

He'd probably say the same thing if he saw this tribute...

  • Replace the music bed!

  • Great clips...........from the ol' Doctor...........however, the music was absolute SHIT!

  • There is no doubt about it. Tom Baker has always and will be the one TRUE Doctor of this series. The BEST of the BEST, period.

  • @DrWho1000 :-)

  • @DrWho1000 yes he is the symbole of doctor but patrick was the best just that he was not in the right period :)

  • @DrWho1000 Sure it's hard to let go of nostalgia, and Tom Baker was The Doctor, but have you seen Matt Smith lately? Words can't do it just how much of a phenomenal job he's been doing with the role. Just like Mr.Baker Matt Smith has BECOME The Doctor.

  • Great video with brilliant clips and perfect music too!

Tom Baker is my favourite Doctor, and my earliest memories of watching Doctor Who are from Tom's last series.

Season 18 is my favourite of the Tom Baker era, and it's my favourite of all the series. 'The Leisure Hive', 'Full Circle' , 'Warriors' Gate' , 'The Keeper of Traken' and 'Logopolis' are among my all time favourite stories. There are all classics. Even 'Meglos' is alright!

  • tom baker was and still is the BEST doctor!

  • @kenpoman100 agree

  • @kenpoman100 Oh yeah! :) pwn you David Tennant!

  • there all great they gave there all for the show

  • A truly fantastic Doctor. The early Doctors were the greatest times of "Doctor Who" and Tom will always be the best, followed by Patrick Troughton, Peter Davison, Jon Pertwee and (groans) David Tennant.

  • @tellymad649 I personally feel that Eccleston was better than Tennant. I mean, I loved Tennant at first, but the writers just kept breaking his heart, making him cry about everything...he just wasn't strong where Baker and Eccleston and others would have been. I know it's just a new taste, as each doctor is unique, but the melodrama just went on for so long that it took me out of the series.

  • I wonder if he were in bad health at the time he resigned his part as the Doctor...he certainly looks gaunt in this video-interview.

  • It's interesting to me that in Britain the best Doctor of all, even after Tom Baker played the part, was Jon Pertwee, while in the U.S. it was Tom Baker. Well, he still is the best imo, though I have some nieces who disagree ;) I just don't dig the new doctor.

Tom brought his own eccentric character to the show, which added a refreshing bit of humor and charm. He would make anyone feel welcome to join him in a spot of tea...and Jelly Babies...or a gin and tonic :)

  • The Fourth had so many cool and memorable things.. a total trend-setter in so many ways. He had the scarf, the jelly-babies, and K-9 (whom he played chess against).

The majority of Sarah Jane's time was with him, and then later we were introduced to Romana who's also a Time-Lord, and with her own Sonic Screwdriver.

He introduced us to the first Control room of the TARDIS, which he used for awhile. It had stained-glass windows and a wooden control panel.

Yep.. Tom's era was the best.

  • This is very well done. That song played with the fourth Doctor's final moments was really moving. I felt the loss all over again.

  • Doctor Who will never again be as good as it was when Tom Baker was the Doctor. You can throw all the money at it you like and use all the fancy special effects you can invent, but it will never change that fact.

  • Tom Baker #1....David Tennant #2 John Pertwe #3 Peter Davison # 4....

  • 1. Tennant, 2. T. Baker 3. ecclesdon 4. Pertwe 5. Troughton 6. Davidson 7. Hartnell 8. C Baker 9. Sylvester McCoy 10.Paul McGann

  • @dloverise Lol, but no.

    1. Baker.....11. Tennant. The writers really tore up the doctor character during the 3rd and 4th seasons, and it was just way too emo after a while, and it made me really look forward to the day when Tennant would leave.

  • @NerdilyDone by emo, im assuming you mean people who could actually act. cause you can't be telling me baker could act.. like he had one emotion and that was, old granddad face. he had the emotional range of a cardboard box. And the writing all the new series of doctor who are genius. your a fool not to see that.

  • @zeromenace He's not a fool just because he doesn't agree with you. He has a perfect human right not to agree with you.

  • You can't say that anyone was the ebst doctor since he still has two regenerations after matt smith

  • Something tells me they will work around that when the times comes--just like the Master did.

  • @sharonned0 Well, doesn't that one time he had the metacrisis and created a half-human doctor count as a regeneration?

  • no nono david tenant was the best docter

  • You're an idiot.

  • fuck you bitch

  • Buy me a drink first...

And please...Don't attempt to insult someone before having a grasp of basic English...

  • Tom Baker is from Liverpool, a true scouser. My Favourite Doctor.

  • I always loved Tom Baker as the DR. I also love the actor who played the Old MASTER. in this and many others.

  • im cryingg ;I

  • does anybody have the complete series of dr who by tom baker. pls let me know thanks

  • I got every story from Jon Pertwee thru David Tennant. I don't collect William Hartnell or Patrick Troughton though. Some of those stories are lost and I don't wan't to go mad wishing that I had all of those too.

  • what a fantastic speaking voice toms got

  • I agree. I think he is better than James Earl Jones, William Conrad, Alexander Scourby and Lorne Greene.

  • nicely done.

  • Like being President of the U.S., once The Doctor; always The Doctor.

  • Comment removed

  • I've read elsewhere that Tom Baker's health was in a bad way during his final year - does anyone know what was wrong with him?

The 1st 3 years of Baker stand up as the very best Who ever did. I think his next 3 are a bit too silly and not scary enough. This was somewhere in the middle, I think it was the sort of style change Who needed for that year but sadly as we all know the 80's was the death knell of the show.

  • @hgsfdtref45

The reason Tom Baker left was because he didn't like the creative direction John Nathan Turner was taking Doctor Who. He felt the fun had gone out of the series.

  • @jwg2372 Well, i watched some of horns of nimon, it (and indeed most of tom's 2nd to last series) felt and looked a bit too over the top with sillyness. The only thing i didn't like about series 18 (the ones i've watched on DVD anyway) was that it was mostly all work and no play. other than that i thought tom's last season was better than his penultimate one

  • i love u tardisgirl ¡!

  • Bring Back The Scarf.

  • Really enjoyed that. He does look really ill in some of those scenes though.

I like that the wolf is out when he's being interviewed at the start

  • Comment removed

  • Best Dr Who ever!

  • ROFL he looks like hes wearing the 10th doctors suit always throught they were alike XD

  • Anyone else find it interesting that he's wearing a pinstripe suit at the start?

  • haha holy crap I never noticed that!

    Nice catch

  • Whats the episode called where thiers another Tardis in an other Tardis?

  • Ooo! I remember seeing that one on what was UK TV Gold. Its when Tegan is first introduced isn't? I can;t remember the name. tho Haha!

  • It's called Logopolis, which was also the end of the Tom Baker Era.

  • I liked the ending of Logopolis in a way... it was sad to see this great Doctor leave, but I loved his last lines, and his smile. The Doctor was still The Doctor, but with a new look and personality - same memories but a new persona. It was a nice farewell.

  • hahaha ," Well You could say I'm still Dr Who and that would be true ... Would'nt it ? "

  • lol...i'm coming back as an otter!! Gotta love Tom Baker

  • I'd love a coat like his series 18 one. very nice.

  • Tom Baker didn't make that sad farewell the last ever canon story, the hornets nest has the fourth doctor at his peak and it slips nicely into canon too.

The fourth doctor, is the doctor, the one we all instinctively think of, davros, the scarf, jelly babies, mood swings, alien presence. Tom Baker will always be the doctor and the reason he looks so old in his last series is because Nathan Turner tried to hem in his genius adlibs.

  • Great compilation for me Tom Baker is still and always will be the ultimate Doctor Who.

I've always liked this polished 18th season look since I first saw it back in Autumn 80.

  • probably the best doctor but i think it was starting to show he was getting a bit burnt towards the end. after all he did it for nerly eight twice as long as any other of the others

  • The best Doctor ever.

  • I never really understood the watcher thing.. >.>; Maybe I'm just thick.. I don't know.

    Anyway, good video. :D

  • That's the thing about doctor who, it's a question.

If they didn't put in crazy unbelievable ideas or unseen back stories then the fans would have nothing to argue over and if that happened the show would be dead, that's why the tv movie was slated by fans, it gave away too many answers without asking enough questions.

You're not meant to understand the watcher thing, you're just supposed to know that this mysterious watcher has caused the 4th doctor to regenerate into a much younger form.

  • The best Doctor.

    Best Dalek story.

    Best scarf.

    Best eyes

and of course the best Jelly Babies.

  • Absolutely.
