  • this guy is a great artist, but you can't use the same techniques all the time, its not like a computer program "heres the techniques thats how you make pictures" you can use your imagination and put what is in your head on "canvas" and use your artistry

  • @geeiwoder He's a concept artist. His paintings and sketches are more for production and ideas, not a finished art piece to hang on a wall. Many concept artists use the same techniques because it always works for them. On his website, you can see that he has hundreds of designs/sketches, and they all vary from each other. He has a basis on the type of themes he likes, and that's what he sticks too. Trying new techniques in concept design isn't always the smartest thing to do.

  • @Oobibun3 lol thanks, i understand what you mean. for concept art, you need to sell an idea or whatever, and some techniques help you do that. sorry if i got you confused, i wasnt speaking about concept art, but general art. but i getcha :P

  • @geeiwoder He used to use pen and paper before he switched to a tablet, but now, the tablet is much more efficient and versatile to him. Sure, it would be cool to see him paint on a canvas every once in a while, but when you're constantly in demand for designs, it's easier to revert back to what you normally do, rather than stray off the beaten path and try something new. Now... if you had free time, experimenting different techniques would be stress-free and understandable.

  • lol idk about some stuff, alot of it is the girls style and not just selling the picture. i think the brightness really gave a utopia tropical theme, and kinda reminded me of mirrors edge. and the characters told a second story, perhaps they could be the main story. as if they were the characters of a game and this city was a chapter or level.

  • first i just want to say your tutorials is awesome but im a little confused on when you say your extracting the values and painting then you take off the black and white layer and theres color like are you painting in color with the black and white layer on or your actually painting in color and constantly switching to check value

  • I agree with the previous post that pulling up side bars and zooming in and out is rather distracting especially when it's not serving any valid purpose.

  • The original was rather interesting, the I personally think the paint over only reflects on your style. You merely introduce the same design elements that you use for most of your environment sketches ie the curve of arch in the foreground, enormous focal subjects. This method lives no room for students to think of other avenues to create focus and direct the viewers eyes.

  • @ebling1000 What he chooses as the focal point is perfect, because one it was the focal point to begin with and the job of a concept artist is to sell an idea or design not the art. All of the figures and black areas distracted from the "concept" and what Feng did was make the focus clear. It's not just style. Please don't try to insult him. He is amazing, really famous and knows what he is talking about. Keep in mind that these are FREE and he takes time out of his busy schedule to help us.

  • it was helpful. I think if you use two screens so that you don't have to pull up sidebars constantly and move the image around too much would be great.

  • The white feels totally blinding...
