Getting to know or truly discovering someone requires a challenge at one point... deep. I love these movies lol.
I always thought that Seraph mirrored the person he was fighting in a way. Ballard in the Enter the Matrix game beat Seraph and yet Neo fought him to a draw. I always took that to mean that Ballard overcame himself while Neo was equal to himself. What this means for the movie is that since Smith was a mirror but reversed of Neo, Neo at the time of the Seraph fight could not defeat Smith. "you do not know someone until you fight them", meant that to fight Seraph you know yourself more.
Keep in mind during this fight, and Seraph's other appearances, that he is the ONLY entity in the entire Matrix that is anywhere near a match for The One.
There was only one blow landed during this entire fight, and it was Neo hitting Seraph open-hand strike to the chest. The bouncers at Club Hel even knew him and he still f'd their couch. Seems like the perfect bodyguard...in the Matrix.
Draw!!! if they put seraph and nevo vs all those Smiths, that would have been more epicness :) think about it, Neo and Seraph both with poles :p man they would have kicked ass

the most blatantly stupidly obvious , OBVIOUS coreography is Power Rangers- i SWEAR- from all fighting I've seen, Power rangers was worst executed in timing- as for this, it's passable, and not too bad- this is closer to the level of star wars- where you ALSO, outside of all that, have additional elements helping such as prediction, etc....
but yea, the choreo on this fight- and for the matrix in general , is better than the vast majority of fights from this era and so on. Its not that bad.
when searching for this video u can watch the cut scene from tomb raider underworld , a fan of this game has made it ... the moves are exactly the same ... enjoy

Neo, a brilliant but most underrated heroish character. You get plenty of overrated superhuman characters like Superman, Spider-Man, Batman, John-117 but the one who deserves the credit is The One- Neo.

Seraph is a program whose only duty is to protect the Oracle. No doubt he's been around long before this version of the Matrix and he knows how the One fights.

the scene tests Neo to see if can par with Seraph and beat him. The reason is because Seraph can beat agents, particularly Agent Smith (stated in Matrix Revolutions).
@strapinhotpockets He had to be strong enough to defeat Seraph so he could prove he was The One - anyone weaker would have failed. That's what Seraph wanted him to prove.
And, theoretically, all the Zion operatives knew all the martial arts anyway - what made him a better fighter was superior strength of soul - that's more important than any martial arts technique.
P.S. Seraph is a challenge-response program - and since he was specialized in fighting, obviously, his challenge would be combat.
Seraph was from older version of the matrix but he was saved by the Merovingian, He left the Merovingian to protect the oracle though, which is why The Frenchman calls him Judas. He was a seraphin guardian that are like angels and they have 6 wings, 3 pairs, but seraph lost his which is why the Bouncer outside Club Hel in the Matrix revolutions calls him Wingless.

Neo, a brilliant but most underrated heroish character. You get plenty of overrated superhuman characters like Superman, Spider-Man, Batman, John-117 but the one who deserves the credit is The One- Neo.

@TheSchemer1 the REAL spiderman of the comics is hardly even known to the masses but he deserves his fame, as does batman. everyone agrees that superman is overrated and of course the master cheif's fame is inexplicable since he hardly even says anything.
Neo is of course a great hero, and got credit for that, and since the third movie butchered him I don't think he's underrated at all.

@strapinhotpockets Well probably something like, someone of good character won't go straight for a killing blow, or use under-handed tactics while fighting, on the other hand, someone who is of bad character, would for example, go for groin shots, or something like that. make sense?

@strapinhotpockets I think the idea is that if Neo was anyone other than the One, Seraph would have cleaned their clock. The fact that Neo can fight is the Matrix equivalent of a fingerprint scan.

@strapinhotpockets Skill has almost nothing to do with it. A person is never more themselves than when they are in a fight (or in the sack). It is one of those few moments when who a person truly is at their core cannot be faked or well-hidden.

@strapinhotpockets I think the point is Seraph could take on anyone but the 'One', who is able to bend the rules of the matrix. So by being unable to defeat Neo and prove Neo's skills, he knew that Neo was the anomaly, being able to fight him no problem.

the scene tests Neo to see if can par with Seraph and beat him. The reason is because Seraph can beat agents, particularly Agent Smith (stated in Matrix Revolutions).

@strapinhotpockets He had to be strong enough to defeat Seraph so he could prove he was The One - anyone weaker would have failed. That's what Seraph wanted him to prove.
And, theoretically, all the Zion operatives knew all the martial arts anyway - what made him a better fighter was superior strength of soul - that's more important than any martial arts technique.
P.S. Seraph is a challenge-response program - and since he was specialized in fighting, obviously, his challenge would be combat.

Seraph was from older version of the matrix but he was saved by the Merovingian, He left the Merovingian to protect the oracle though, which is why The Frenchman calls him Judas. He was a seraphin guardian that are like angels and they have 6 wings, 3 pairs, but seraph lost his which is why the Bouncer outside Club Hel in the Matrix revolutions calls him Wingless.
