The difference between precious metals and the recent bubble-prone markets is that precious metals are a rare, expensive, finite resource, like oil. In today's market, yes it would be. We would have to enact regulations to disallow futures and other derivitives against the value of precious metals. The difference between precious metals and the recent bubble-prone markets is that precious metals are a rare, expensive, finite resource, like oil. And I'm sure you know about the recent oil price crisis - this was due to the derivitive market and it's unholy manipulation. Look for Zeitgeist Addendum and watch the 1st part for more info.

depends if you are look short or medium to long term. short term yes there is a lot of volativity in all markets precious metals included. but in the medium to long term, and silver are the most solid base there is (in some ways even more than food as gold is much better suited as a medium of exchange then perishable food, and given the state of currencies/central bank manipulations, as well as the fact that most currencies are tied to the dollar, the least stable currency of all at this time)

The solution is a RESOURCE based economy. Anything else ultimately leads to "competition" for resources and then invariably to conflict.
What we've been feeding on in the past century is ridiculously cheap oil to produce cheap plastic shit and fuel big powerful cars for big fatass degenerates...you dont need to be an economist to acknowledge that. Now I'm not a US citizen, just a student here. But I think that the lack of public transport, especially trains, in this country owes to the fact that the govt is influenced by wealthy auto companies like GM, Ford and Crysler.
