  • If this guy makes more than $100,000 a year I would be shocked.

  • Brian I am subscribing to you because you prove/disprove the most interesting stuff ever

One thing i can't grasp is...why isnt the entire room packed with an audience?? people would have to be real fools to miss something like this

If you did a show in Sydney, Australia...i would make sure to get a bunch of people to see you

  • There are 2 types of people on Earth: those that accept science, and idiots who don't.

  • i was looking for a mastodon song.........

  • I think it is slightly interesting that he refers to psychology which is considered a pseudoscience itself!!!

  • @thaiscare

????Psychology is not pseudoscience, it's taught at university as part of the social sciences.

  • @MrJohndl Ummm that doesn't mean it isn't a pseudoscience; pseudoscience simply means false science and because you can not prove psychology as a study and you won't be able to because everyone is different it will always be considered some what a pseudoscience ;P

  • @thaiscare

Sorry you are wrong on this one. Psychology is not pseudoscience. Look it up.

  • @MrJohndl ahn maybe.... its still considered psuedo/false to at least some people

  • @thaiscare psychology is considered a soft science, not "pseudoscience". and some of it is not considered to be proper science (e.g. evolutionary psychology), but that's not the same as pseudoscience.

  • this guy is illuminatti and your all asleep

  • Astrology is nothing but a load of bull created to push people away from god by distraction that's all it is simple as that

  • @totheword3000 Astrology is a major hallmark of the bible. God created the stars "as for signs". The three wise men were astrologers and they followed the signs of the stars towards Jesus.

  • @fdasherv no it was predicted that their would be a new star in the sky a sigh written in the bible that the Messiah was born its not astrology it noting the signs big difference

  • you are so awesome, i mean you are convincible and when people watch this they think like, hmm. yeah he's right lol

  • dat hair. nice video though

  • all this series of video's seems to be blocked from sharing on Facebook,

  • Win!

  • Astrology started back in Ancient Kemet longer than 3000 yrs ago!! Whitey be killin' me with this shit.

  • The Bible

  • "When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead." Deuteronomy 18:9-11 Divination is not a game. It is an abomination. Does this gentleman believe in Yaweh? or in fallen angels, demons?

  • How can I get this gentleman to speak at my niece's public school ??!!

  • @Mr111810 just hit me up over email at brian at shwood dot com... I'd love to make something work!

  • If astrology were true mothers would have started long ago taking Caesarean operations and delaying births for all its worth... To get their babies in the right sign... Do you REALLY think thats the meaning of life? For real?... Way to early as well as delayed births?.. Now we can all have our dream kid!! Just make sure you fuck really good in september to get your nice gemini!

Hurray.. Really you must do a choise between free will or astrology... I choose free will and fuck all year long!

  • This is a great short lecture on how astrology is not legitimate science but why it feels so right for a lot of people.

  • @rondie54 - And your argument is just so logical - "the best and real psychics don't come forward because of the ridicule" - What a piss poor argument that is you tosser. It would help if you even tried to construct any sort of argument instead of slagging off rational enquiry, so much for your critical thinking. Psychics don't come forward because, like you, they are seriously deluded and at some level they realise this. It's YOU who is playing the victim and being a complete arsehole about it

  • Has anyone ever read a headline in a newspaper that said, "Astrologer averts catastrophe" or "Psychic solves crime" etc. What about even a little prediction on page ten that was only half true, after all, newspapers and current affair TV shows love this stuff. But instead what you find are articles and reports about fraudsters and scam artists. Why don't we ever hear John Edward say, "your dead uncle hid a fortune in his shed before he died", instead of a lame, "your mother says she loves you".

  • @ rondie54

I thinks you totally missed the point numbnuts. In a city with a ghetto like Port-Au-Prince you can expect a disproportionately high incidence of chicken sacrifices and superstition - including prayer. This place is a hot bed of divination of one sort or another so, why did absolutely no one, anywhere at any time pick up on the pending eruption? - Answer - Astrology and all methods of prediction are simply barking mad magical thinking. Verdruc's question was an astute observation.

  • @smackcheeks Go back to school and learn to construct a logical argument, idiot. Pseudointellectuals (sigh)....

  • @rondie54 You give psychics an evil name with your kind of narcissistic deluded and foggy thinking. If a psychic or astrologer could divine anything more than a vague notion about anything at all, which is no better than anyone else could do, on the strength of their convictions why wouldn't they save a life if they thought their premonition was real. Your stupid argument says they risk being ridiculed....so they keep it to themselves. Yeah, just plain old evil parlor tricks you numskull.

  • where can i get a copy of the personality thing about astrology and stuff

  • One basic point on the absurdity of astrology (by no means the only one) is that if there is a "magical" moment that defines your life, it's not birth at all, it's conception.

While one could say that the mother's health is not that relevant from the occult point of view, they'd have to admit that emerging from the womb is neither particularly occult nor magical, it's a very down-to earth thing, the magical thing is the sperm-egg one, the Magic 46.

  • Palm reading, tarot cards, psychics, etc. are all bullsh*t. I pity those who believe them and sincerely hope you are never put in a position to influence others.

  • Go back to doing magic at kiddie parties you smug know-it-all. And do something with that hair.

  • His hair is like that due to Jupiter smashing into Mars during the Suns aspect rising.

  • Why wasn't the Haiti earthquake predicted in the stars?

  • @Verdruc How can one find somehting they weren't looking for, idiot?

  • That was uncalled for. I merely believed that anyone with the power to predict the future would use that power to avert humanitarian disasters like Port-au-Prince, and so would have looked for any disasters in the charts. A negative horoscope for everyone in Port-au-Prince around the time of the earthquake would have been a very good indicator. But I suppose the stars were feeling a little moody, or something or other.

  • @Verdruc there are over 6+ billion people on the plane, over 250,000+ cities, t and over 150 countries. WHy would anyone do a spontaneous prediction on a country, city, or group of people out of nowhere? WHat you're saying is not practical. Astrology is specific not group, city, or country based. Just because you don't understand how something works does not mean that it is wrong. It means that you need to do your homework and create intelligent questions.

  • seriously? A negative horosocope for everyone in the Port-Au-Prince city? How stupid of an idea is this? Who exactly would be performing these horoscopes? The stigma and ridicule that comes along with astrologers and psychics keeps the best and real ones from coming forward because of moronic questions like yours. Then when something happens, pseudo-intellectuals ask why people didn't predict it. Why would they? If your talents were ridiculed, why perform parlor tricks for assholes?

  • I am not attempting to ridicule anyone. I'm asking questions. I have been insulted for doing so. I shall continue to ignore this. I reasoned that must have been at least one astrologer in Port-au-Prince doing regular horoscopes for customers. I assumed that that horoscopes drawn up for several people concerning the day of the earthquake would have some similarity between them. Obviously I went quite wrong somewhere here, as I have been so colourfully informed.

  • @Verdruc I am the type of person who looks at both the big picture and the little picture, when it comes to critical thinking. You only look at the little picture, which is why you don't understand me and resort to playing the victim role... You can have the last word if you need it.

  • @Verdruc Your observation is absolutely correct and is the best kind of evidence against this sort of dangerous and immoral delusion which is passed off as some kind of benevolent act of kindness by misguided and narcissistic people who think they have an inner spiritual knowing above everyone else and who want to be paid for their efforts. Any kind of rational confrontation brings out the inherent evil from these fakers and if their is a god, he will send them all to hell.

  • horoscopes and zodiac signs are so real because every single one of my friends fit the description of their own zodiac sign so precisely its crazy.

  • exactly. why can't other people see that? everyone I know fits their description too.

  • 3:18.

  • Not only people, but plants planted on full moons produce more.

Fishing, even deep below the surface where the light effect from the moon doesn't penetrate is effected.

If you really believe that the moon and it's phases has no effect on living organisms on this planet, you may be a "luna- tic" heh heh - no offenxe, just being "pun -ny.

Seriously, you should check with your brother in law, cause full lunar crime rate increases is well know in law enforcement, they plan shifts around it

  • source...

  • Well, Newton discovered this aspect about gravity that it extends in an inverse-square proportion between astral objects. Do a little math and this is what you'll approximately get.

As for Moon's "magical" effect, I cannot comment on that. (well, maybe on its psychological effect, but you probably know this already).

  • Moon has as much effect on you as a pea strung up 1meter above your head.

  • In the following week you will meet someone that will alter the course of your life and change your view of the world. this person will stay with you for a long time, and when they go they will stay within your heart forever.

  • Saying that you can tell things about someone's personality based on the day they were born is no better than saying you can tell things about someone's personality based on the color of their skin. Why do we tolerate one but not the other?

  • Most are unlearned about horoscopes and some are just plain skeptical - and it's a good thing they are because we should not believe everything that is presented to us, even science.

I believe it is true. you just have to study a lot about it - and you have to observe people very carefully.

  • Personally, i observe more than i read and i have become pretty good in guessing what a person's sign is (even if i just met the person for the first time), just by looking at them (facial characteristics, posture, attitude, etc.).

  • I don't expect people to believe in astrology because they know so little about the true nature of it.

but I do expect them to have looked into the subject carefully before they speak of it.

I can't explain why it is true or how, but it is.

i feel sorry for those who don't believe in it because i have used horoscopes and zodiac signs everyday to my advantage, personally and professionally. it has helped me become successful in my relationships (not just romantic) with people.

  • so if someone is killed by astrology would you stop believing in it?

  • what do you mean?

  • @yhtomitalmighty i highly agree... i think as much as this guy may seem knowledgeable, hes still just a joke to me.. i mean some of the stuff he says make sense, but hes completely shutting down some of the possibilities that may be true. i mean im sure astrologers wouldnt be studying this for thousands of years for nothing...

  • @trupinoyboo69 ITS CAUSE HE HAS SPIKY HAIR!

okay, really, the reason it survived for so long is no argument at all. it survived because it's a viable business, that's what i think. it's easy to delude people and take their money. that's why we have presentations like these, to kill this non-sense.

  • @yhtomitalmighty it's more likely that you fooled yourself into thinking that it works, when it actually doesnt. lots of research shows that people can easily fool themselves into all sorts of stuff. its FAR more likely than this astrological non-sense.

  • @mrjedidja i'm just saying that so far it is more true for me than not true. hey i used to not believe in this, i hated myself at first for believing this - because yeah i know it is not rational - but i just can't say that it is untrue because it does work and sorry you don't see it. p.s. i don't believe in fortune-tellers or divinations - what i believe in is that peoples characteristics/behavior is affected by their star signs because from what i have observed it is true.

  • @deadjerusalem

It's worse than that, it has been unambiguously proven false!

  • @deadjerusalem It may sound far-fetched, but my sister can literally guess peoples horoscope based on their personality, and I know 2 other people who can do the same.

  • wtf is up with his hair?

  • A clever trademark. You won't forget to recognize him by that hair will you? Check out Tim Minchin. Same deal. Bet they don't do that at home:)

  • that's an urban myth crime rates do NOT increase at full moons

  • The effects of the moon on " the natural mind" as been know by all who are aware of nature.

Hence the root of the words for crazy are based on the word for moon.

"Man" has become so detached from the natural, that the "wisdom" of being oblivious is now accepted without thought, due to detachment. In fact, the cycles of the lunar and the biologic are so patently obvious, only the oblivious can hope to ignore them.

It is most certainly not an urban myth.

  • well yes just because a word has it's root in something DOES NOT make it correct. People used to believe cold air caused madness, mercury was used to cure sickness, but we have progressed since then.

My point still remains that CRIMED OES NOT increase at full moons. CHECK The data, don't just accept what people tell you

  • Try selling that to the Hollywood police grave yard shift - of which a good friend of mine has worked over 20 years and adds patrols every full moon to cover the increases

  • my brother-in-law is a Cop and i HAVE checked the crime stats and it DOES NOT add up if you account for end of the month/pay day , weeeks etc. I suggest you check the data then come and tell me what you find

  • Astrology, what a laugh

  • Please, enlighten us. What definite predictions are divination have come from astrology in published historical events?

  • The moon has an eletromagnetic and gravitic effect on the earth...that is pretty much it...

  • what tangible substance from the moon or sun affects the human mind in any other way than has been observed since the beginning of time? do we believe this substance directs our behavior? Certainly the sun and moon afffects us, but surely it does not mean someone born May 10th will have the same message for them as someone born on May 9th

  • yessss.I love how hes just smashing(most likely)stupid superstitions of lil girls and dumbass teenagers

  • this entire series has been enormously educational...thank you for uploading

  • I never realized Bart Simpson was such a gifted speaker!

  • There's the gift of prophecy!

  • He certainly proves a point to me, that one has to be really careful. I believe in astrology but alot of people clearly abuse it, and it is really easy to fall for it and mess up your life. We all are responsibile for our life, we do have choice. there maybe alot that is determined already in our life, but trusting someone to tell you to do things, E.g. Have a divorve else he will leave you in 10 years, or that you need to go into this career, may mess up yoru life

  • when the emergency ward is full of people, do the nurses and doctors go outside and look at the moon?

    i hope not.

  • While I do agree with his main point here, I think he needs to work a bit more at how he argues it. I mean, he says that it's crazy to think that your entire life is determined by when you're born, and everyone goes, "Yup, that's crazy. I agree." But can anyone explain why it's crazy? I think some people could and i hope this guy could, but some people can't so you do have to actually come out and explain it. Simply dismissing it as impossible without reason is as bad as simply accepting it.

  • because it's a supernatural claim.

  • And all supernatural claims are automatically crazy?

Sorry pal, but I don't buy it, which is why I wanted an explination to begin with. It's impermissible for someone who is ridiculing others for accepting things with no evidence or reasons as to why they might be true to turn around and do the exact same thing.

No one has a problem accepting that it's crazy to accept a supernatural claim, but no one can give me a better explination than, "because it's just crazy." It just seems backwards.

  • he doesn't know what he's talking about.

  • On the contrary, I think he is very knowledgable. It's not the content of his arguments that I find questionable. It's the form of those arguments.

  • Fruity!

  • No, we call it Superstition. Fruitcake.

  • I'm glad I stumbled upon this set of videos. Type 'lecture' and 'skeptic' and all sorts of goodness will appear. Try it out.

  • same here. It all makes sense to what he's saying

  • Again, someone using cold reading to disprove Astrology. None of these clowns have a clue about what is really going on.

  • Now you're an expert, tell the clowns how astrology and divinations do work, if it is not just cold readings.

  • wow.

So if you can predict the future, why don't you go get Randi's million dollars? It's just sitting there waiting for you!

  • hiccupsdude:

    Bovine droppings.

    Cow pats.

    Paddock poops.

    Moo feces.

Oh that's right! Bullshit! That's the word I was looking for.

  • stfu

  • Ah! Clearly a man of deep intellect, ready to respond with an articulate argument.

I liken the experience of you bozos to that of a ten year old.

  • fuck you

  • Wow, able to do astral projection and hurl mindless abuse!

    Soooo talented.

  • This coming from someone you believes in mystical crap and swears a lot.

When you're not turning tricks for old men you should go to night school and get an education. If you don't you'll be stuck in the trailer park forever.

  • Now you have revealed your true self! Not only trailer trash but a racist as well.

Gee your parents must be proud of you. When they get out of jail you should give them a big hug.

  • You need to say please. Guys like you need to start to learn manners at some stage.

Oh by the way, that must be the first time you have typed something that was in English...well done. Just turn off the caps lock though...wouldn't want to feel you were shouting at me.

See you later, I hope, pleasant talking to you.

  • People with educations believe in "mystical crap" and unexplainable. Every hear of Romanticism, Transcendentalism?? Emerson?

  • And your point is?

I believe in the fundamental goodness on man. So what.

Astrology and divinations is the mystical crap I'm talking about.

  • Well well arent we touchy. He used the 3000 years thing to explain the way the earth changed 30 degrees. Sure seems like everyone hates this guy. I dunno its pretty interesting to me as I view prediction of the future complete BS no matter how "scientific" people sound. Oh yeah stick your hand in the ash of a bondfire that JUST died out pretty hot huh? Seriously if your looking for stuff that trivial you really are desperate.

  • my birthday was jan 1 and my mm changed it to jan 2

  • duh, the magic words had nothing to do with astrology. Sound more like counseling of some sort, that is definately BS. You should go back and do some research.

  • Even Scientists to explain to beings the mother its chemicas its soul and its offspring which are formed within them once born are not the same chemical or soul of the mother as to understand somthing animates this baby it isnt just born as the mother and it is just born as a pound of flesh that is not animated somthing turns it on and allows it to be animated diffrently chemically a scientist would explain its just chemicaks and society only acts through the social contract

  • What? Can anybody translate this?

  • wtf is wrong with you people how can this only have 3 stars? Fans of atrology I assume?

  • out the conception as to why he is and they are and hmm wasting his energy or gaining his energy upon this all beings seek happiness in it good or bad things harm or not power wealth or not all is pleasure happiness

  • the moon affect this, gravity ok and why is a baby born distincly diffrent from its monther it is flesh from the mother why is it animated and alive oh does he have an answer for this tell me if he has it so figured out why astrology dosent work then why is it he is alive and infront of a bunch of other beings also alive with

  • If you go to night school perhaps you could learn how to communicate clearly in English and then we'd all know what you are talking about.

A is distinctly different to its mother. At what age? You are talking crap.

  • to the tide of the oceans/seas and ask him why does

  • Typical throne of a sleep gaining power and energy from others fear. ohh how I now all paths down or up lead us to where we are meant to be, Astrology is one tool that helps you to see what you already know there are other tools that help you to link into what you already know. I feel this video is accurate to basic newspaper astrology, not natal charts. Tell him to go

  • I never believed in astrology, but i knew this one guy that could guess people's astrology signs accurately just by looking at the shape of their hands and looking in their eyes. it got kinda freaky when he was going up to random strangers and guessing right, whats the probability that you can guess all six random peoples astrology signs correct?

  • I have the amazing ability to divine women's personalities when when I sleep with them. LOL. These are great videos. They're right up there with the James Randi, Derren Brown, Richard Dawkins, Penn & Teller, and Criss Angel stuff.

  • The locations of airplanes when you are born determine your personality.

  • One of the argument is that "how your whole future be determined based on what time you were born"..

When the time of the day you leave your home to goto an airport matters very much for making your flight, why cant the time you were born make any difference for the journey of your life....?

  • Procession, Precession. Yet another person who doesn't know that the ancients knew about it.

  • I never said I was defending newspaper horoscopes as a science. Show me one post of mine where I said anything to that effect. Study up on astrological transits. Google it. This site limits the length of users posts. I can't teach you everything you need to learn in this limited space.

  • He says something about "burning ashes on the head of a donkey". Ashes generally don't burn. They're already burnt. That's why they're ASHES. At 1:40, he says "if you were born on the same date 3000 years ago".... blah blah blah. Well,if you were born 3000 years ago, you would have been born under a different calendar system. The one we use today is only 2007 years old. Anyone else out there care to to keep defending this fool? I need some entertainment.

  • Everything you wrote in your comment does nothing to put what he says in doubt. And you have no counter arguments. Yes Ashes are already burnt... AND???

Isn't it clear that he wanted to say that you sprinkle ASHES on the donkey's head? It doesn't put the later arguments in doubt.

Astrology does not work. Get over it.

  • So, you know what he "meant" to say, huh? You don't believe in astrology, but you can read minds? Does "Dr" imply that you are some kind of doctor? You must know where to get the good drugs.

  • I can read minds only in the way everybody else can: with the use of common sense! :D

  • The authority of Jesus surpasses any reference to history you may adduce... Jesus told his detracters in his day that before Abraham existed, "I am" (to show his pre-existence.) Name-calling cannot countervail what I am positing....

P.S. Abraham was called to leave the lifestyle of the pagans of ancient Ur of the Chaldees....so the pagans practices did predate Abraham. But Adam, the first man, pre-dates all of that which you cited and he was a monotheist before Sumeria ever existed.

  • So, which guy are you? The pointy haired dweeb in the video or his boyfriend?

  • D.A.L.L.A.S. C.O.W.B.O.Y.S. stands for "Divination and Lies Like Astrology Someday Condemn One Willfully Believing Occultism's Year-round Seduction" (The acronym is used for effect because of the Cowboys' star logo)

Read the holy Bible's condemnation of divination systems. Deuteronomy and Leviticus are explicit in their condemnation.

  • Religions trying to discredit older religions/divination systems is a long time tradition. The ancient Sumerians, Babylonians, Greeks and Romans came up with this stuff long before the bible. Example: "Sin" is the ancient Babylonian name for the Moon. Maybe that's why the bible uses that word for bad deeds. Get it?

  • G.F.L.O.R.K.O. stands for "God-Forsaken Logic Only Reaps Kafkaesque Outcome" (If one rejects the biblical truths that discredit divination, then the outcome of such rebellion will be the biblical lake of fire... Read Revelation chapers 20, 21, and 22.

    *kafkaesque means "nightmarish"

  • Go back and read my comments again. Slowly if you have to. Note that I mentioned Sumerian, Babylonian, Greek and Roman history. This is a wider body of knowledge than what you think is holy. Ancient wisdom PREDATES your case. Your closed minded bigoted opinion that there is ONE holy book and every one else is wrong is largely responsible for the world being as fucked up as it is. Pull you head out of your ass, dipshit.

  • G.F.L.O.R.K.O. stands for "Getting Flustered Leaves One's Resolve K.O.'d...."

  • Gflorko. These aren't the rules of astrology. The planets and stars move according to the laws of physics. The fact that we divide them up and name them the way we do is an after-the-fact consideration. If we lived on Mars, you'd be arguing that it's thanks to the rules of astrology that we have a 669 day year.

You're argument is utter down syndrome.

  • I guess you'll need to invent your own clock, calendar and names of the days of the week since you can't stand the fact that you live by the rules of astrology every day. When you system has been around for a few thousand years, be sure to let me know.

  • Is the Earth part of a solar system? Do the planets of the solar system revolve around the sun? Does the moon revolve around the earth? Are there 365 days in a year? Are there 7 days in a week? Is the first day of the week SUNday? Is the last day of the week SATurday (saturn). Are there 24 hours in a day and 24 time zones on the globe? Does 24 divided by 2 equal 12? Are there 12 hours of AM and 12 hours of PM? What part of this system do you consider "voodoo"?

  • What you are quoting there seems to be readily observable and measurable information.

Astrology claims include an "interaction" between the positions of planets and the directions in a person's life. This is not proven and when tested always fails.

Learn to separate science from voodoo.

  • What you have described is the system of the actual motions of the planets, which Brian is not disputing. What he is disputing is the inability to prove that these motions shape individual life. Furthermore, defining a week as 7 days is a completely arbitrary process as are the names of the week. Note also that in some cultures Monday is the first day of the week.

  • The days of the week are ALL named after the planets. Google it.

  • Apart from Saturn day, Sun day and Moon day,the days of the week are all named after Norse gods. Or do you know of planets named Thur, Wednes and Tue? Also, I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but naming one thing after another doesn't magically imbue it with the properties of the other, so it's hard to work out what your point is supposed to be.

  • Thursday - Jupiter

    Wednesday - Mercury

    Tuesday - Mars

Names are taken from ancient Greek and Latin. Look it up.

  • The Latin word for Jupiter is Jupiter, dumbass. He was the king of the gods. Thursday is named after Thor, the Norse version of Jupiter. Likewise for the others. These are all gods, not planets. The planets were then also named after the gods. Days were not named after planets. Now stop bickering and answer the main question of this thread, which two people have asked about and you have ignored: Why would the days' being named after planets mean the planets affect what happens on the day?

  • No it isn't dumbass. The Latin word is Iuppiter. However, that's not really the point. Planets were named after the ancient gods and in turn, that's how the days of the week were derived. When I said days of the week are named after the planets, I was simply stating things in a more concise way. Search youtube for Zeitgeist - The Movie: Religion (Part 1 of 3) for some history on religion. It doesn't go into this specifically, but, does have some excellent info.

  • And "Iuppiter" sounds like "Thursday"? And again, you bicker about how they got their names, and ignore the question. Why does the fact that planets and days have similar names mean that the planets affect what happens to people on those days?

  • No. Thursday, named after Jupiter, who is a thunder god, in Latin, is named after a Germanic thunder god, well known as "Thor".

  • The whole argument here has gotten a little off track. I first posted to say that this guy in the video is full of shit. Then, someone else posted and said that astrology is bad because the bible says so. If you watch the Zeitgeist - The Movie: Religion (Part 1 of 3)video, you'll see how most religions are ripped off from astrology.

  • "Day of Thunor" Thursday look it up. :D

  • Fine. Let's assume for a moment that everyone agrees that the days of the week are named after the planets. It doesn't change the fact that it is still just a series of names assigned to the process in which earth the earth makes a complete rotation about its axis. Please explain to me how this arbitrary cultural designation can affect someone's life?

  • The days of the weeks are not all named after planets.

Wednesday is named ofter the Odin god of war of the vikings. Wode, thus we have Wodes day. Ditto for Tuesday as I recall.

  • The fifth day of the week used to be named after Jupiter (dies jovis), but was renamed after Thor.

  • Friday used to be called "dies veneris" after Venus, but was renamed after another Norse God (in this case a goddess), Frigga.

  • So it seems only Saturday, Sunday and Monday have any connection to the planets/moon/sun in their names.

And you are absolutely right. Assigned names carry no weight whatsoever in the drive to give credibility to astrology.

  • I agree with you that the planets are not all named after celestial bodies. However, other people were becoming hung up on the history of the names and ignoring the irrelevance of a name on the motions of celestial bodies. Thus I tried to minimize those arguments with my starting assumption.

  • Trouble is these astro-loonies don't have an argument for how it all works and so they try and give it credibility through its historical origins. I try not to let them gain an inch.

  • Can you explain decanants, exaltation points and lunar mansions? If not, you don't know enough about the subject to even try to discredit it.

  • Just because the average person can't explain a lot of made up astrological jargon doesn't mean they can't see the nonsense that is astrology.

Stop hiding behind the gibberish and tell us all how astrology works. Bet you'll find a way to avoid doing that. All astrologers do. They are so caught up in the belief they can't see the nonsense.

  • This guy doesn't know jack shit. Total bozo.

  • ..he knows more than you. He uses science and facts, You believe in voodoo, why not put a curse on him? LOL

  • This is ridiculous. This guy is a sham! He is also a liar. Google "Full Moon and crime" and you will find a lot of confirmations from real science pubs for higher crime rates during full moons.

  • From skepdic[dot]com/fullmoon.html...

Ivan Kelly, James Rotton and Roger Culver (1996) examined over 100 studies on lunar effects and concluded that the studies have failed to show a reliable and significant correlation (i.e., one not likely due to chance) between the full moon, or any other phase of the moon, and each of the following:

-the homicide rate, -traffic accidents, -crisis calls

  • (list cont'd): -domestic violence, -births of babies, -suicide, -major disasters, -casino payout rates, -assassinations, -kidnappings, -aggression by professional hockey players, -violence in prisons, -psychiatric admissions, -agitated behavior by nursing home residents, -assaults, -gunshot wounds, -stabbings

-emergency room admissions [but see], -behavioral outbursts of psychologically challenged rural adults, -lycanthropy, -vampirism, -alcoholism, -sleep walking, -epilepsy

  • ...you need to move on and accept astrology is BS. the evidence says so.
