@angusstan not only Americans compete. There competitions here in America, Scotland, France, Belgium, japan, Iceland, and others. It's not an American sport. It was developed by the Scottish and it's just what they called it.
all these americans, wearing kilts, involving themselves in these so called highland games, well i dont see any highlands, and i dont see any scottish people
@angusstan because the sport does not require highlands and the sport was created by the scottish. It is not mandatory that competitors be scottish themselves.
Not a very good toss, actually. The object is to get the caber to flip over completely in a straight line away from the competitor, but it fell sideways.
so how does a person get to look like that....im a big guy myself and i mean this in straight matter...but i like his stature..i would love to look like that..how can it be done?
Great guy, I have the honor of working out with him. I asked for some help to get started on this and he made me a training buddy! So, don't jump to conclusions without knowing someone guys. He's one of those nice guys out there. Don't know of to many pro's who would invite me to train when they just met me.
@animemooose He works out at the same gym I do. He's the biggest dude in the place and has probably the best personality in the place- he brings his kid to training also.
The guy has a German name, maybe he is being 'patriotic', by wearing such tattoos? There are probably millions of Plastic Jocks/Micks across North America who sport celtic insignia although they never saw a Ben or Glen in their lives... The eagle is the one currently used by the German Federal Government, so no 'old Germany ' associations there...
A really superficial lance at the internet indicates that Benroth is a common German name and doesn't 'seem' to have any semitic origins. May the man himself would like to tellus about his ancestors?
Benroth is a typical Yiddish(jewish) name, other examples: Albert Einstein, Boris Becker, Steven Spielberg, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, all this guys jews
A couple of those would strike me as being of jewish origin. I guess there are just so many names from that culture that are so integrated with the Germanic ones that I never really noticed. Assuming direct Jewish links is stretching it a bit. The most you could assume is that there was intermarriage and the name persisted...
Actually that is an iron cross, Originally created in 1813 by King Fredrick III during Prussia's period of 'blood and iron' - their struggle for survival against Napoleon. It was intended to replace other traditional awards during times of war, such as the Order of the Red Eagle or the Pour le Mèrite (known as the Blue Max during WW1). It was not created by "Nazis" if that is what you meant.
There where over 150,000 Jewish soldiers serving in the German military during WW2 who chose to do so. There was also a lot of collaboration between Zionism and Nazism. In Fact, Theodore Herzl was a strong promoter of early National Socialism (he was the founder of Zionism)
Indeed, the idea was around way before Hitler came into the political game. There are some interesting "Herzl" biographies stating that before starting Zionism, he was quite busy with the idea of national socialism. I highly recommend the book
"Theodor Herzl: From Assimilation to Zionism" by Jacques Kornberg
"Kornberg (history, Univ. of Toronto) offers an illuminating portrait of Herzl as a young German nationalist and shows how this youthful experience influenced his Zionism"

Theodor Herzl died in 1904, so that must have been some really, really early National Socialism.
