Wish I'd seen this before last night, blew out m ankle again. I always do it when stepping out of sideflips, I step left then right and then rotate on the right to link it, but as has happened numerous times, my right foot flipped under itself. I'm out for another 6 weeks. I'll be back watching this after that, cheers.
I don't have time in my workouts to do the shin exercises so is it ok for me to do all the workouts in class, while (here comes the issue) sitting in a chair?
does it require standing up? because iv'e been doing it for about 2 month 10 times a week in school and sometimes i felt pain in my anckles while drumming, and theres barely a pressure on the muscles while doing so unlike tricking... so is it ok to do it while sitting?
Hey GoldVision can i ask you a question. I have lightly sprained my ankles several times now (maybe about four?)
Lightly meaning it has healed within a week and only very light swelling occured.
I am aware of the fact that this decreases your ankle stability. Will doing these exercises help me regain the stability so i dont roll over my ankles often?
I've recently experienced some ankle injuries in both my ankles although it was just from repetetive use and not a specific point of "this" is when i got hurt. I'm still able to do corkscrews, b-twists, and 540's but like Dogen says in his video. The landings scare me. I'm taking a break from tricking and wondering if i should wait til i heal to condition or if doing these exercises will strengthen them better and help me heal faster.
@Chris9699 Anis lands on his toes resulting in his shins absorbing the impact. Because his shins are very strong his landing is soft. You can achieve the same ankle strength by doing these exercises. Ive neglected these exercises for a quite bit now. Ive started doing them again now for a week and ive already gained more height before i started.
Yah! That's right maaan.! I had "blue" permanent on my right ankle and the doctor says that I can't do nothing about it.
Every time I train something and then I rest for a bit, aaaaaand then I start to walk, it hurts like hell...and I have to twist my feet to be able to walk. Sometimes, I can't even walk and I have to support with a wall.
great stuff. dogen really knows how to explain things.
btw, funny how I had noticed that being a girl (=wearing high heels once in a while) my feet and shins are stronger than the guys´ shins. using high heels is a bit like doing the shin raise in a sense. :-)
are you sure? because you are training your shin muscle which actually wont help in height , sounds more like a placebo effect to me... tho, this exercises are really good, but you should not forget to exercise your calfs too
Worse music ever. I actually stopped watching the video at about the 3 minute point because this music was so bad.
I've heard of Dogen and I have respect for him. But unfortunately his doctors (and now he) are misinformed. I doubt he has to live with his ankle problems for the rest of his life. He just has to rehab properly. It's all about the muscular integrity and getting that ankle, knee, and hip back in alignment and working efficiently. Check out ADAPT Training.
Strength is ok. It prevents some situation from going bad towards injury but stretching, muscle relaxation and flexibility is what actually saves you from extra damage once things has gone bad.
Dogen, thank you so much for this information, you have no idea!! I do parkour which also takes a lot of ankle strength, and before I kept on straining my ankles in wierd ways, because they were not strong enough. But now they are injury proof! Titanium! And it is so nice!
Thanks for the tips. I'll try my best to remember those stretches.
To those who read this and do tricking or parkour, freerunning, whatever. i know i guy called boris somethingorother. He has been doing parkour for about 2 years. When he first started parkour, he thought it was all about big gaps and big jumps. This therefore RUINED his ankles. they have got worse and worse and now he cant do parkour atall.
I have been working on these for alittle bit and i have been able to land my precisions easier! But also im rly wondering if there is a good tutorial for Knee strengthening cuz i ahve bad knees >.< Any help would be appreciated. TY
wow thanks i am so doing this exersise. i realy sory about you ankel and the everlasting sprain. im learning how to trick and i just do it in my spare time. :)
I do freerunning, and having experienced multiple minor sprains, I too have pesistent pain, and I get injured more easily- hope I don't have an impingement like you. Thank you so much for posting these excercises. Good luck, and happy training.
hey man, i got an ankle injury right now... im not sure what it is... i know i didn't roll it or land badly on it when tricking but its still sore and i get a semi sharp pain when rotating my ankle... i bet these exercises will help alot, thanks again

@Tracuers I suggest taking a break and condition your ankles.
If you feel that your ankles hurt kinda bad you shoud probably see the doctor but if thats not the case, just take a rest.
You'll you will gain more by resting & conditioning, take that step back and progress to steps more ;)

Do we always have to land on the balls of our feet? Like Anis does it.

how often should i do these exercises? does it matter? if i spend a whole 8 hour day doing this in my classes will there be any negative results?
bboyben1995 2 years ago
8 whole hours?, i have no idea.
Never done it so i can't tell.
All i know is if you follow the advice given in the video you will notice results after a week, maybe even 3 days.
I have already felt an increase in my tricks after 3 days. This stuff realy helps.
GoldVision 2 years ago
Ive started doing these ankle excercises again and ive been gaining massive in my tricks for the past week.
Fkin love this conditioning thing.

there is no chance of injuring your ankles doing this every night and morning so dont worry.
otherwise it would have been mentioned in the video ;)
