@RX8fan07 take it to a rotary specialist and get them to port it...tho a warning the further u port it hte lumpier itll sound but u will get far poorer fuel economy and drivability but who cares? lol
Is there a website or something of the sort where I can learn about old school rotary swaps like these? I'd love to start a project like this, and I don't want to burden you with a bunch of questions.
@romanosalvatore Well, since the Miata is a corner carver and nothing else, the tuners like to explore that. They dont seem to do turbo on a Miata too much because it takes away from the balance of the car. The N/A rotary is chosen for its responce.
@romanosalvatore Maybe because all Miatas are NA? Or are you referring to the Mazda RX7 engine in it? If so that is probably because of the boost spike issues. It is harder to control a turbo charged/supercharged vehicle while drifting. I bet the ITBs give extremely predictable torque scenarios.
@romanosalvatore why not the NA? It's by far the cheapest and lightest miata making it great for a swap. The NB is no better (and weighs more) and the NC is patheticly heavy.
wicked man! I want to buy my girl a miata and throw a 13b in for her. im scared on how it would have a boaring life tho, unless i got to drive it once and a while & clear it out haha.
Man thats nice. How much did it cost to put that in?

More fuel pressure and or larger volume injectors...
Plenty of air/O2 is available you just need more carbons ->hydro. Maybe consider producing more somehow...

clearing things up; romanosalvatore meant 'NA' as in the chassis code for the first generation miata. 1st gen = NA, 2nd = NB, 3rd = NC.
It's easy to mix up, though, since the first gen's code is also an abbreviation for natural aspiration...
ww92films 1 year ago
@ww92films no??? its first gen=fb second gen=fc third gen=fd. na is naturally aspirated. where in the world did you get such a crazy idea?
bosgreene36m3 1 year ago
@bosgreene36m3
I'm talking about miata (MX5) generations, not RX7s. :P

@nuke1989 thats the sound of a ported rotary you grow to love it
KindyCove 1 year ago
@nuke1989 Because rotary motors are dead inside. They're cold, heartless, piston killing machines and I love them for it. lol

how to you make the rotary idle so lumpy?
i love it :D

That is so cool. I mean, a rotary in a Miata? Such GREAT power-to-weight ratio.

Why is it that everybody uses the (NA) Miata for the swap?
romanosalvatore 2 years ago
I don't know why. I got a good deal on this shell that is why I bought it.
lucky7fris 2 years ago
@lucky7fris Yeah, thats probably the reason why most people buy NA's, cheaper. Thanks!
romanosalvatore 2 years ago
NA Miata's are really light.
I'm saving up for a swap myself, 13b-t
squirrely911 2 years ago
@romanosalvatore na is the lighest of hte 3 also the cheapest and easiest to modify :)

hey iam about to do a swap on my miata i was wondering does your speedo work with the rx7 tranny and how hard will it be to put a fuel injection 13b.
rotarycorvette1 2 years ago
what starter did you use?? it seems to have a lot of cranking power at startup...
ponykillerr 2 years ago
@ponykillerr
just a regular 13B starter
lucky7fris 2 years ago
haha sorry lost my train of thought... i have my 13b in a sandrail. so i have a vw starter but the 12 volt isnt doing too well of a job :/
ponykillerr 2 years ago
i was planing on doing this but i have a quick question did you have to do any frame modifaction to get the 13b in there? and sitting properly
PAC0TAC0 2 years ago
@PAC0TAC0
yes, slight cutting of the subframe to clear the oil pan.
lucky7fris 2 years ago
are you using a 12a front cover??

drive shaft? electrical? tran mounts? anywhere i can read about your build?
ma70mia 3 years ago
trans is rx-7 bell housing, miata tail shaft to hook up to stock driveshaft and PPF.
electrical? what do you mean? it's a carb so just power and ground to the coil packs.
lucky7fris 3 years ago
sorry i meant to the guages

Orale Fris... that miata is sick
devinefist81 3 years ago
Only welding necessary on my swap was for the custom header and exhaust. The mount for the motor mounts was not welded, but bolted on to the frame.
BTW, this was the very first start up. She fired right up and idled perfectly :)
lucky7fris 3 years ago
May I have a pic of your header?
sh3lbot 3 years ago
inquiring minds want to know what how hard the swap was? and does it take any welding?
wise185 3 years ago
did you buy a kit for the motor mount brace/tranny crossmember? did you fab yourself? if so are you selling? mazsport has one but its a bit up there
celisto001 3 years ago
The drivetrain is the stock miata rear end, rx-7 trans with miata tail shaft to bolt up to the PPF like stock.
