It is from firing off more than eight, the ones that are fired first explode if you fire more.

It took me a while to notice it to. I don't play the Demoman often.
you blow up all of them, there is no way to do that, as far as I am concerned

No, right trigger explodes every currently active sticky, firing a ninth sticky erases the earliest one you put out.

Just stickies. Pipes are harder to do because they have things like attachments and animated skins.
