  • I read something about this group back in 1967 but I have never heard them before. Their name just came to mind and sure enough here they are. Thanks for posting this.

  • METROPOLIS!!!!!!!!!!

I feel like a slave to the machines sometime too

  • i wonder how hard it would be to make a lothar machine?

  • ONE OF THE BEST 60'S TRACKS EVER RECORDED..........

  • This reminds me of a Tom Waits album I really like, wtf are they playing? Pots and pans? Sweet sound with the guitar!

  • The Boston Tea Party the perfect venue on E. Berkley Street in Boston was the place to catch Lothar. Totally pschedelic, baby... circa 1967.

  • Excellent , Would never thought this came out in The 60's, 80's yes

  • i love lathp

  • Low budget puppet show? I think not!!

  • This song is pretty awesome

  • Seriously AWESOME. I've gotta look into these guys more.

  • Was this made by the parents of modest mouse?

  • This is certifiably badass. I can't stop listening.

  • He eerily sounds like mrweebl

  • I for one, welcome our new metal overlords.

  • cracked!

  • gREAT TAKE FOR A CLASSIC CYBERSONG!

  • How advanced was this group for the time of this creation!

By the way I was a teenager and owned this "album" (I know it is an antiquated word lol). Terrific stuff and it STILL ROCKS!!

  • Well, I just found Mechanical Man. Guess it got posted since I last looked.

  • Do you recall the 1966 song "Mechanical Man" by Ben Bolt and the Nuts? It's another good robot song. I can't find it anywhere.

  • @6motion6 It's by Bent Bolt and The Nuts. Hope that helps

  • I LOVED this band! Discovered them in a record store in Denver in 1968 when I was in Jr. High. I like your video collage too.

  • I LOVED this band back in the late 60s. I like your collage too.

  • Enjoyed your video collage.

  • Wow...what a find...ahead of their time.♫~~~«d◘_◘b»~~~♫

  • Yes, I love you.

  • Wow! I've been wanting to hear that song for 42 years! Nice video!

  • i can't get this g.d. song to play through. i was about 17 when i first heard of this group, and was the only one of my friends that were into them at first. i have 2 mint copies of this album. machines was the theme song of this house me and a bunch of hippies lived in around 1970

  • What a great record! Insightful lyrics and a cool groove to it.

Nice vid too...Did I see some Jean Tinguely in there?

  • They were the first group to play electronic music - theremin - but never get recognition for that.

  • @degjr123 Uhhhh......no. Plenty of people had experimented w/MOOG's and theremins before Lothar. Ever heard of an album called Pet Sounds? Still, their futuristic new wavey sounds wouldn't come into vogue until the Talking Heads, Gary Numan, and DEVO, so props to them, all the same.

  • I bought this album when it came out I love hearing it without all the scratches thanks for posting

  • omg i cant believe someone posted this! my FIRST concert age 10 was this band! they just blew the main act (the Byrds) away LOL thanks for the memories :)

  • @forestghost07 MY PLEASURE!

  • I have two of their albums, saw them many times at the Trauma in Philly. Funny no one in Colorado ever seems to have heard of them, always thought they were from Boulder?

  • Manfred Mann did an excellent version of this--any of the mentioned, form Blue Men to Kraftwerk to Les Claypool, could do a really excellent remake of it!:)

  • Yes, thank you - I found it! It was featured at Burning man, too. Some genius named Theo Jansen made it and a number of other things.

That song sure sticks with you, don't it? I've been hearing it in my sleep even. Now, I've listened to it about four times today. Arghhh... LOL

  • I'm captivated by that weird walking machine @ 0:38 - anyone know anything about that? I been all over "robots" and such on Youtube but never seen anything like that.

  • search on youtube for animaris rhinoceros

  • Thanks, I loved it! That's been rattling around my head for the last few months - never thought I'd hear it again. It's still a cool and relevant song - someone needs to do a remake.

  • @TheMrBlinx I agree!

  • @papawillie24 Just for the fun of it, WHO would be best suited to do a remake of Machines?

  • @TheMrBlinx my first thot was kraftwerk or steamroller or maybe the blue man group

  • @papawillie24 Blue man group is mute - they speak not.

  • @TheMrBlinx That 1 Guy or Les Claypool

  • this is before kraftwerk

  • I got the original Capitol rainbow label LP in MINT COND! I also have it on CD w/ bonus tracks! AWESOME ALBUM!!!

  • Thank you I love it! I had this album and this is my fav song frum it! Excellent visuals. Where did they come frum?

  • ...just found them on the internet. Glad you liked it.

  • Sex and violence another great song by The Hand People.....still have the original vinyl.

  • @texadillo53 I have it as well! It also has a funny Woody Woodpecker song on it.

  • agreat band from NY that played in Philly constantly...saw them many times. My friend Jim Allen in Brooklyn- who writes for Mojo and others- got hired to write the linear notes for a reissue to happen this year.

  • pero que rola!!!!

  • one of a kind!!!

  • This sounds like a proto-punk band. Still...a cool song!

  • One of my all-time faves! Perfect imagery. What a treat!

  • You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

PLEASE check out my channel. I also have to use machines to breathe for me, and have disorders, but I DO NOT LET THEM GET ME DOWN, and pLEEASE do not feel sorry for me. Even though my disease is fatal, I don't complain.

  • you need help!

  • Something very similar happened to me, Papawillie. I found a weed growing in my yard called the devil's trumpet, aka jimsom weed. I ate some and the next thing I knew, I didn't eat any at all but I was floating in a beautiful cloud high above Nicaragua. Jonathan Winters was there and he spoke to me just as rainbow, arched across the shimmering blue, speaks back to the sun that made it. Try it out, holmes. J.I.M.S.O.M. It may work a wonder.

  • @bjorsak Read the book A Yaqui Way of Indian Life, by Carlos Castadada. In the book they make a paste from the root and rub it on their forheads...pretty trippy.

  • Guys, I had 4 copies of the album, three still un-opened... I actually got loaded on Gypsum Weed the other night and smashed them into oblivion.... i then talked ot the ghost of my ancient ancestors for the next 9 days... it was sooooooooooooooooo fun...

  • I have gotten so many cool comments on this video. It's bringing out all the old guys like us that remember playing this way back when! Another favorite of mine was "Ars Longa Vita Brevis" by the Nice. Do you remember that one?

  • I still have the LP! I whip it out to clear the party of all the squares...

  • Well-done video!

Of all the sixties synth bands, Lothar & the Hand People were the drunken rowdies at the science show. It's like the Holy Modal Rounders had invaded KlingKlang studios. Gotta love 'em!

  • Great remembering of this 60s special group

  • wonderful - I sold this LP and another by them in a moment of pure idiocy about ten years ago - thank you for posting this.

  • It's available on a CD, which I'm glad to have, since I also sold my LP in a moment of financial need.

  • OK, so you think you know where it came from. It's actually a derivitive of a " Therim "

used in early sci - fi movies in the 50"s

  • I bought this album back in 69 and it inspired me to take up theremin playin'.

    Great video! thanks!

  • The instrument with the rod is called a "Theramin."

  • This is classic stuff. I actually have this album and have been a fan of this group for years. "Lothar" is an electronic musical instrument that makes sounds by moving your hands around a standing rod. There is a photo of it on the back of the album. These guys were pioneers of the moog synthisizer which was just coming into use at the time (69/70). Wonder what happened to them? I enjoyed this clip, Thanx.

  • Thanx for the extra info Glad you liked it.

  • "Lothar" is a theremin and this band is one of the early pioneers in using electronic instruments.

This video is a wonderful visual companion to this fantastic song

  • Great!

  • Great vid. 5 *s
