Does ANYONE ever test ALKALINITY?????? It is THE most important part of maintaining a good pool surface! If your pool walls and floor feel like sandpaper and your eyes and soft skin burn because the water becomes aggressive looking for alkaline. IDIOTS!
You should place the chlorine tabs in the skimmer or a chlorinator. The floater is only good for kid pools or spas.
The shock should always be broadcasted evenly over the entire pool unless you want your floor liner to become bleached out. I actually premix mine so it dissolves quicker.
Best advice: go to your local pool store weekly and have your water tested and follow their advice. You’ll save money in the long run.
@justmeagain2007 you should NEVER put Chlorine tabs in skimmer (unless specified skimmer sticks) the chlorine builds up when pump is not running and will bleach out the side of the pool wall. A floater (or 2) is good. An erosion feeder is best! If you have a vinyl liner, shock should always be dissolved in a bucket first.
@RApoolworks As you will note in my original post I do recommend dissolving the shock.
Regarding the chlorine tabs; They make several types of tabs. The tabs for a chlorinator (long term) should not be used in the skimmer because they do not fully dissolve at the same rate and may damage your pump. The least expensive tabs that dissolve faster will be fine in a skimmer and most pool stores recommend this method over a float. In six years I have never seen an issue with the pool walls fading.
@justmeagain2007 the least expensive tablets contain a large amount of animal fat. Very good for clogging up an erosion feeder and really really good a clogging an impeller on the pump if fed from the skimmer. Skimmer sticks are recommended because they only release chlorine when water is running over them. So when the pump is not running, chlorine is not building up in the skimmer overnight. And in 25 years, I've seen plenty of bleached and discolored walls from this practice.
Where is the electric current that passes through the pool like a giant lightening bolt to biol the pools water like a kettle wired to a 10,000 watt power unit?
