Yes, this was released in late summer 1968 by Little Carl Carlton -- sort of sounds like Stevie Wonder's "Uptight". His voice changed by 1974 when he dropped the "Little" in his name and had an even bigger hit with "Everlasting Love".

Didn't realise this track was from '68. I picked up the Backbeat LP "Can't Stop A Man in Love" (ABC, 1973) and had assumed all the tracks were from that time

@SoulsurferUK08 yes it came out in April '68 ... this song did at least. And back then he was 'Little' Carl Carlson :) I think this was his debut hit if I'm not mistaken.
