  • So beautiful and tells a tale of tragedy so full of injustice, that it makes you sick.

    Peggy Sweeney is so talented.

  • Dreadful tale.

What a lovely song, though from a very talented singer.

Her rendition of Shanangolden and In shame love in shame are incomparable, and with such a content.

  • Lovely ballad.

  • On the 12 May 1921, a troop of 'Black and Tans' were travelling out from Listowel towards Athea when they arrested three young men in Gortaglanna. Prior to this the barracks in Listowel had been burnt-out and the troops, heavy with drink and bent on seeking revenge decided to execute the young men. One of the men, Dalton, attempted to free himself from captivity but was shot in the attempt. Both of the other two men were executed on the spot.

  • Dreadful awful happening, and the relatives and friends must have hated the B and Tans and vowed revenge for the injustice and murder wreaked.

    Must have been dreadful.

  • Well, wasn't there meself but must have been.

What happened back then is very regretful but in the end you can't blame all the Brits for what the Black and Tans did. A friend of mine told me a story of a Brit who ordered a black and tan (the drink) and was thrown out of the town. That was not so long ago but Kerrymen remember the Anglo-Irish war very well.

  • Actually I don't think it was a good idea to even mention the words B and T do you. It might have been a relative or something who took that order.

  • @jorgenpfhartogs..... as well they ( the Kerrymen) should.....

  • @catholicrik trust me they always will remember.
