  • 4.51 - Beautiful tabla

  • What raga is this? Some phrases are off Charukeshi but its not Charukeshi.

  • there really is so much that western musicians can gain from this.

  • @Mattius946

speak for yourself. im an american and play guitar and could incorporate this into a guitar syle. i use middle eastern & spanish influence too.

  • @lmnguy i am speaking for myself, i like when people also incorporate exotic scales and microtonal ideas in a western, especially jazz context. the possibilities are endless is all im saying man, its not some bash against anyone, just a push to further expand and create new sounds.

  • Sweet!.... just wish this piece was about twice the length ... 10 or 12 mins would be even more awesome.....

  • sitar is indian, but poor porkistanis dont have the brain to invent an insturment even in the 21st centery!

  • @Sukhamahal ....for this you deserve your slogan......GAY HIND....lol

  • superb!!!!!!

  • everyone there is trippin out 2:20

  • I love that he hangs stuff on his sitar, like Japanese hang stuff on their phones

  • 2012 the song (Harry Loco) with words of MICHAEL BOWEN ! With sitar !

  • simply amazing

  • wow as if the sitar is telling a story....

  • @globetrekkerboon actually it does

  • The price tags are still on the headstock

  • Obviously you can see thats its not a price tag...

  • @ipsingh73 There's always a comedian out there somewhere....

  • @unclebob100 and you are refering to?

  • @ipsingh73 Somebody said in an earlier post that Ustadji "left the price tag on his Sitar" guess they thought they were being funny.

  • @unclebob100 -- oh yes:)

  • Ustadji and players of his ilk don't use store bought sitars. His sitar is crafted to his specifications by a master craftsman.

  • pittdready, you racist fuck.

  • @tsiemens1 I have fuzzy dice hanging from my sitar headstock!

  • E' veramente stupefacente come questo uomo possa produrre suoni cosi stimolanti da far danzare l'anima di una passione antica

  • Its not just bending in the western music sense; there are shrutis aka microtones that are used specific to a raga .

  • Herrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre is Johny

Yes, Johny, playing sitar is so simple that it is not even funny. Especially the bending part. i bet you can relate to that. You seem to know a thing or two about bending if catch my drift. Find yourself a sitar and touring. Let me know if you have hard time selling tickets. If you do, you can always make a living by bending wink wink .

  • XD

    thats a 5 star comeback ! =P

  • this is wonderful i love the sound

    it make me fly

    i just love it! i wish i could play a sitar :)

    [white rabbit]

  • try to play anything in teentaal or make a truelly one good meend before u open your mouth my friend ,,, u r making a fool out of yourself

  • amazing piece of work. btw: you can hear the nokia tune of someone's cellphone at 1:01 ^^

  • lol i noticed that

  • makes me wanna break out the shisha

  • Who is the maker of this Sitar of Ustad Shahid Parvej??Can anyone please tell me??

  • As far as I know the best sitar maker is Hiren Roy in Garihat Road, Kolkata. Vilayet/Imrat and their entire clan get it from him. Sitar made out of burma teak (or at least a portion of it from this wood) is supposed to be the best though it takes a long time for the sitar to sound nice when constructed out of burma teak. trust this helps.

  • His Sitar name tag says Yousuf Mirajkar. But its not made by him. It was made by BM Sitar maker in Miraj. However now he gets from most makers there. But the main one is from BM.

  • Thank you...where can I find this Yousuf Mirajkar or BM,please??

  • what does this mean?

  • @aidsyturban he's indian...

  • amazing!!!!!

  • Love Guru

  • do you have the whole video?

  • Can you upload the full video please?? ..May be through bulk upload? We need a longer version of video, please!!!!

  • Oh i love sitar so much, i am fr Indonesia

  • ahhh amazing!

  • I feel almost dizzy when I listen to this---like I'm in a trance or something. Like ahimsa002 says, utterly intoxicating.

  • Shahid Parvez is playing Raga Charu-Keshi here. He is displaying a particularly unique interpretation of it as he usually does. Since Charu-Keshi is an adaptation from the south, Norther musicians interpret them in their own way. His gat using the muk ni dha, RE GA is interesting for this raga.

  • what was this ?? - i have never heard anything like this! especially the first minute or so sounds very unique!

  • intoxicating

  • Rafiuddin Sabri IS a good tabla player!

THIS RAAG IS AWESOME! Anyone what it is.

  • charukeshi

  • I love it!!!!

  • I smoke weed to sitar music!

  • Good work?

  • I medicate with the herb to Indian Classical music too... both expand my mind and take me away from the pain of arthritis, I just wish this piece was a lot longer, about 1/2 hour or more. Very Beautiful and restorative.

  • aha ya pure cripple

  • i saw this guy play live in delhi when i was there a few months ago : )

  • amazing musician may he live long

  • the girl at 4.57 is very beautiful

  • yeah, she is.

  • I like the girl at 4:41 better

  • Heyyyyyy, what about that Tabla player???? Simply wonderful!!

  • beautifull

  • niceeeeeee... i love it...

  • What is the name of the rag that he is playing? Is it mishra? The shuddha ga plus komal ni and komal dha make for profound depth. Gives me goosebumps

  • Raag Charukeshi, it has Shuddha Gandhar, komal dhaivat.

Amir Khan has bandish (laaj rakho tum meri)

  • kia bat hai ..wahh!!

  • Yes he is good...but best ever? Have we forgotten Ravi Shankar?

  • Ravi Shankar was the man to make Indian Classical popular in the west, but there are so many sitar players much better than him, and Shahidji is by far amongst the best.

  • I agree. I started learning the sitar three months ago after hearing this man for the first time

  • where can i buy this dvd

  • SÜPEEEER

  • How does he pull the string so far without it breaking? At 1:27 he pulls from shuddha re to komal dha and I have seen another video of him when he pulls from shuddha re to komal ni. Any info/comments are much appreciated.

  • i would say because of the fret curvature-/or wideness of the neck-my sitar is not a gayaki but it does meed about 6-7notes ( because i had it custom w/ very thick high frets &wider neck) and i think when you do a very far meend you always keep 2 fingers- you never do a long meed without both fingers-(i learned it the hard way lol) it doesnt add direct pressure to one point, but at 2 points which make it more flexible.

  • probably using carbon freezed strings, it works on my sitar, different style strings have different breaking points

  • hi,

most every good sitar you can pull at least 5 notes (sa to pa for example)from every fret above the low pa on the ma string. sometimes you can pull 6 (pa to komal dha). on the karaj string, if you have one, you can pull from re to sa. the string wont break.

  • Beautiful

  • Simply AMAZING, REALLY "COOOOOOOL"

  • wow, beautiful. He really goes somewhere, they both do.

  • there's sumthing in the music

  • i know exactly what you mean

  • chillin', exotic, mysterious, is it? i dont know the exact words

  • there really are none:)

  • its really relaxing

  • ohh yeah keep bending these strings !!!

  • excellent playing ... charukeshi is displayed superbly

  • Very Interesting madhyala laya bandish. Not a typical Imdad Khani style. Beautiful and different approaches to the sum. Thanks for sharing.

  • Why is this not a typical Imdad Khani style? What is it about this performance that makes it different? Didn't pick up on it, thanks.

  • I am not talking about performance. My comments are only for the madhya laya bandish. It is different than normal imdad khan style bandishes ( masitkhani or razakkhani). Shahidji's performance is always imdadkhani style.

  • It is Charukeshi

  • Hi, dont know much about the rags. an amazing performance though.

  • charukeshi?
