Bill, have your first video and it is GREAT! Thanks Brother! I was wondering, do you do many SEGMENTED bowl turning? That would be a great video as well.
Thanks for your kind words, and I am glad to hear you are enjoying the video. We've been trying to get together for a third, focusing on spindle stuff.
To be completely honest, I don't think I have ever really turned a segmented piece. I have so much solid wood here that I will never get through it all, so it is hard to justify the time to start gluing it up into assemblies.
123HURST, I am glad to hear you enjoyed the videos! The Robust is a great machine. About the only thing I could wish for is just a little more speed at the top end for spindles. But I can live with it the way it is, no problem at all!
Actually, it was cutting pretty well, as it had been sharpened just before I started. The length of time it stays that way is subjective, depending on the type of wood, moisture content, etc. Mike Hunter has a retrofit for these knives that uses one of his carbide cutters.
I like it Bill. I own both of your other videos and look forward to another one. But who knew this was the secret to the coring tool. Wear a gun and you scare the lathe straight. No muss, no fuss just success. I gotta get me a gun....
what kind of screw gun is that?

Hi Bill
I have both your DVD videos and found them to be excellent. What is your opinion of the big Robust after using it for a while.

Bill, Sure sounds like that tool needs resharpening. How long does it retain sharpness?
