  • Check out When the levee breaks by Zepperalla.

  • Alternate take?????????

  • This is so cool.

  • GIVES ME GOOSE BUMPS...NO ONE MAKES IT LIKE THAT ANYMORE!!!!...SO WE ARE FORTUNATE!!!!!!!!!

  • are you kidding me??? BONHAM @ 5:13

  • Does anyone know the alternate lyrics for this?

  • yes ....it is a delta blues song and the original....has several variations...true story compiled from disasters not unlike the flood in Louisiana 1927.....but I do like Led's best!!!!!!

  • I've never been able to get this song as loud as I'd like to hear it.

  • @NotATubeSurfer rip it off youtube throw it on a cd or somethin and play it in your car!!!

  • its great but i still prefer the regular version.

  • Best played Loud, I Love, Love, This song. Good Stress Reliief.!!!!!!!

  • Camping....1972....3 am, total darkness, low on the battery radio. it was like God was jamming.

  • wow!!! thanks for sharing buddy!!!

  • why is there no leakage? wtf this song isnt the same without it!!

  • @undesirabl do you mean the short delay on the drums?

  • I like the alternate take. Sometimes songs sound better with a higher pitch. It's still got the D minor feel to it (or F major, judging by the fact that Jimmy and Paul are playing an F more often than not), but it just sounds better.

  • Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. Best Bands ever and forever! Stayed true their whole life.

  • @Daedraheart

    they are still alive dude!

  • @Daedraheart your name is the shit...

  • Missed the concert in Buffalo,NY when Robert Plants son died and they cancelled the remaining concert dates. My all time favorite group and that goes along way considering all the great groups of the 60' and early 70's.

  • the sky in my head is orange every time I hear that harmonica and those drums...this one never gets old.

    thanks for the post

  • this song was written by memphis minnie. dont forget where the blues comes from.

  • @zealberg where john bonham or jimmy page maybe plant this is the best blues ,rock music period.!

  • That hauntingly beautiful harmonica gets me every single time.

  • i love this song my favourite song by led zeppelin

  • coll song led zeppelin rocks forever!!!!!!!!!!!!@!

  • The last 7 minutes, i closed my eyes, i laid back and i just simply enjoyed this song. My mind was gone, i was thinking of nothing else besides this great song. Like i went in a sort of trance. Something only Led Zeppelin could achieve.

Let us just pray that one day, there'll be a new, fresh group who brings us the same emotions as Led Zep did.

  • @TheFashionFairy the closest thing out there now is The London Souls. check em out

  • @TheFashionFairy check out Graveyard :)

  • @TheFashionFairy Amen to that, as a harp player, heavily influenced in my high school days by Robert Plant, Jack Bruce and Paul butterfield, I want and am am in process of putting a band together that will bring this music back into the main stream and rescue this country from the crap that is going out over the airwaves and from concert stages!!!

  • @TheFashionFairy im just going to tell you right now it's not gonna happen

  • @TheFashionFairy I'm workin on it give me a few more years

  • ...."intended for New Orleans"? Yeah Zep is so badass that they made a time machine just so they could travel to the futeure to write a song about an otherwise unforeseen deluge. The real question is why didn't they warn us?

  • I didnt mean it was intended for the New Orleans Hurricane! If I meant that I would have mentioned something about Katrina! What I meant was that they intended the song to have a New Orleans-ish sound! YOU should read ALL the comments before talking because mine was in response to someone else's experience of the song! Now I know how celebrities feel when the media twists their words around! And as far as you smart ass comment, my smart ass comment is, "YES, Zep IS that badass!" Get a life.

  • Element774, I wasn't talking to you, I was responding to delnegros13. I never started any negativity on this until delnegros13 wanted to go ahead an throw words my mouth. Led Zeppelin wouldn't wanted this to arise from their music, so I'm ending this NOW.

  • Yeah they went back in time they just diddnt tell us because it would cause a time parodox completely destroying everything we know and love.

  • "Best Zeppelin song of all time"

  • This is the real rock & roll, my favorite Led Zeppelin rock song of all & won't get tired of playing over & over again I think .this one is even the best version on my own opinion. Real classic rock!!!!!!!!!

  • Yes, the song is intended for New Orleans, but the beauty of music is that it can take the Listener anywhere as he or she interprets it. It's also the soundtrack to our lives so, if the song reminds someone of a particular event, so be it.

  • I agree with everything but the New Orleans. This song wasn't "intended" for New Orleans........just a coincidence.

  • True, true....good version, oy!

  • this song is just sooooo...

    undescrible..

    epic!

reminds me of a coach journy to the french alps

all i listened to was this!

    good times!

    :D

  • new orleans.....

  • Epic.

No song says New England florescent sunset like this does.

    It *bleeds* color.

  • i think you mean new orleans, !

shout out from the deep south !

  • eh eh....New Orleans works just fine I suppose.I can see that.

It's that eerie harmonica,Page's slide chords and Bonzo's fills/crashes...it sounds visual.

  • this is indeed a classic zepplin great its got that meniacal hook that pulls you in although the vocals are flawless this song doesn,t really need them. no offense to the great robert plant of course. heres a wierd question do you suppose that when hurricane katrina hit there was some old hippie hangin out on his roof playing this very song. question was not intended to offend anyone affected by the disaster long live led zepplin

  • One of my all time Zep favorites, anyway it is played, or heard, thanks. It reminds me of a story a teacher told us about a flood in Ms, and how they all had to climb on the roof to be saved, way back in the 1930s.

  • This song makes my head hurt,

cuz I listen to it so loudly.

  • Great Tracks, a sure Zeppelin classic

  • ok, Can someone in this fucking world tell me where can I get this version...PLEASEEEEEE!!!

  • Q@uite fantastic to learn how they (I'd guess Jimmy) finally put all the pieces together. Maybe, they're greatest accomplishment sonically. Thank you for sharing this gem.

  • fuckin awsome.

  • Fuking royal flush here.

  • The best groove of drum at the rock history.

  • fukk yes dude, nice one.

  • Damn, thats good. Was anyone able to find this version on an album?

  • WHERE DID YOU GET THIS SONG???

  • zeppelin 4?

  • what?

  • @noisethatswhat

there's a bootleg record out there saying "alternate studio takes" or something like that. There's songs on it like 'Jennings Farm Blues' (which has been changed to an acoustic version and finally has been pressed as 'Brom-Yr- Aur Stomp'), an alternate Solo on 'Fool In The Rain' and tons of other material. Check it out, it's out there on YouTube for sure. I think Conneyfogle posted them up, not absolutely sure now tho.

  • Where did you get this?! I love it!

  • YES

  • This kicks some serious ass. One of my favorite songs of all time, I love the alt version. Nothing, but nothing, that is or ever was comes close to Led Zep.

  • i fucking love led Zeppelin

  • where can i find this version?

  • what an incredible drum fill at 5:14. despite the tiny bit of crossed sticks, one of the finest rock fills ever heard! (not used in the final take of this song.)

  • the song is by Memphis Minnie, not Zeppelin. great cover version, however. the song is about BOTH pent up sexual desire AND black sharecroppers wiped out when the levee broke forcing the sharecroppers, some of them to, "go to chicago.'

  • I was just listening to the original, and this song is just sweet, the original is good but this is awesome!

  • one of best songs to get stone too

  • too many hung up on lyrics... they are apt but not essential... need to be the young beast and allow the drums and bass lines drive you... we would smoke a bit, than when this song started we amped up... our chests expanded, our nostrils flared and we hungered and and hunted ... the levee is methaphor for that pent up sexual desire....going on 40 years ago and this song still stokes the fires...... thats the way I felt it anyway....

  • Too bad the folks in New Orleans didn't listen to this tune...

  • Zeppelin kicks ass my fav songs from zeppelin imaggration song when the levee breacks stairway to heaven and dazed and confused all bad ass LONG LIVE ZEPPELIN

  • What the fuck does that last part suppossed to mean!!!????

  • thank god for Led Zeppelin.... Beatles ruled 63-70 till they came.... They're ok but light...Stones were good Blues with an edge... than Brian died and we were left with Mick prancing around stage... LZ hit a primal note.... instead of being 13-14 we were now 18-19 ... power passion, DRIVING DRUMS and lots of younger chicks... GOD those were the days the happy days for predator 18-19 yo's males.....we weren't PC just free...

  • ...

  • Yes. Nowadays kids spend their time inside with games n' such. We don't go anywhere, we're not as active and influenced by good music as you were back then. Our resort? Youtube via technology. It seems that as time progressed technology took music's place. What a horrible trade off.

But anyway dude, you're story has passion. I wish we have what you had back then. You were a lucky guy to live through those times.

  • People today are FAT LAZY and non Socail no wonder relationships don't last.

  • You've got it backwards. Technology, the internet, and (sometimes) even YouTube allows kids now to find and appreciate good music. Actually, I'd go as far as saying the internet has brought on a surge of appreciation of music for teenagers.

  • ehhhhhhhh:

that may be true for the slight number of people that listen to the right music.

but for all the idiots that listen to crap, its bad. very bad. this technology is throwing the bad music into peoples faces. its hard to get away from it.

  • but this kind of music is not made in front of a computer.

  • This is so good. But why they don't want to go to Chicago anymore?

  • led zepplin is great im gonna do this in the talent show for drums. my friend will play bass and my teacher will play lead

  • very cool

  • You cant compare this one to the version by APC.. in style

  • ohhhhhhhhhhh i am mealting.....

  • Love this.

    Thanks!

  • wow! i love this. certainly one of the best led zeppelin songs ever!

  • I think I like this version better than the original.

  • definitely in my top 10 of the best songs ever (Zep's version)

  • Pretty sure this song was a cover of an old blues song. The only thing thats similar though, is the lyrics. Zeppelin made this song into their own. And it fucking rocks.

  • the immigrant song....is the best....

  • one of the best songs by zep.. ever..

  • This song is for All Time. It's like Mozart. It's just damn good.

  • The harmonica on this track is like the seasoning on a meal....adds that much flavor

  • this is my favorite song of all time, i've never heart this version before tho. where can i find it?

  • "If it keeps on rainin', levee's gonna break...When the levee breaks, got no place to stay..."

WHAT THE HELL DIDN'T BUSH UNDERSTAND ABOUT THAT?

And don't tell me he never heard Zeppelin. He did cocaine, so he must have listened to Zeppelin.

  • hahahaaa. srsly.

  • Yeah thats where he got the idea to let it flood. He wanted to see the Zeppelin Conspiracy come true. Ha

  • What? He didnt do cocaine. Give me a break, he was an intelligent man with a decent run as president.

  • I agree.

  • amazing led zeppelin song i can play this on drums i play it like 5 hours a day its so crazy good! LED ZEPPELIN FOREVER! i agree music today sucks too bad we zeppelin fans lost the best drummer ever john bonham damn these guys would still be amazing and you know it!

  • classic break ,as the beastie boys

  • HippieHairproduction haha that was fucking legendary mate nice one! :D

  • rock music is like candy, you should throw away the rappers! : )

  • i disagree, throw away the new rappers, they're just plain garbage

but the old rappers are worth something

  • Dr Dre actually sampled this song on The Chronic.

  • Yea i listen to all classic rock and sometimes i'll add in a little tupac. Its weird..

  • That's Bad Ass

  • Possibly the greatest drum groove of all time-EVER!

  • nunca habia escuchado esta version

  • me thinks this is my favourite led zep song

  • agree with you theyre popular but it sucks

there s no good 2days musik

  • chuck norris created the world but led zepplin created chuck norris

  • Yeah i can hear the difference in both the way Plant sings and the bass track sounds a bit different

  • Led Zep is the blues on steroids.

    End of discussion.

  • zeppelin 4

  • where is this song?

  • hey HAZMATCOM1 stop posting comments on youtube you make these comparisons on too many vids. Its not a rap vs. rock thing both genres suck today and both were great in the past. Its about quality vs. shit.

  • Plus Rap's not all bad, nd i bet a lot of older musician's would agree with me on that. I mean, most of these new breed of so called "R&B artists" (please) and Hip Hop artists make me wanna cut off my ears, but some 90s and 80s rap is good. I find that for rap, and a lot of things, people don't hate it, they just hate what it's become. Music doesn't even mean anything anymore. If it has a hook with some tard singing into a vocorder, it's a hit. Heck I like Classic Rock, Grunge, Blues and Rap so

  • dude everyone knows that led zeppelin was the first ever metal band!!! They were voted the heaviest band in history by Rolling Stone! Dude have you even heard Immigrant Song or Whole Lotta Love? That's more metal than any Gorgoroth crap I've ever heard! But Zeppelin's also Blues, Psychedelic, a lot of things, which is what makes them so great!

  • man, it is a given led zeppelin is the greatest rock band ever. but im not sure their the first ever metal band, a lot of people will say that it is Cream who started metal... it's always debatable though

  • or sabbath- i dont think this debate would ever die. because people will argure metal/rock/hard rock.

  • They would be ashamed to hear you say they started Heavy metal. Jimmy Page freaked at a reporter once when he was asked about being Heavy Metal and he said "We're much more complex than that smashing of power-chords like Mountain called Heavy Metal" or something to that effect.

  • Awesome! If they had just left the in the lyric "ya know ya gonna die." (2:56) it would have been the heaviest/darkest song ever recorded in the history of rock.

  • so it is officially "monkey man", I never knew

  • john henry bonham rules ok

  • But how is this metal?

Even though you're not directly saying this is metal, it still looks like you are..

  • fuckiing poser... stop spamming, ur not cool

  • wtf is ur problem. i love led zeppelin

  • i hate people who spam up pages casue they think there real fans, its just fucking annoying

  • i ahte it also when people put that fucking thing on their profile, "real zeppelin fans know this" , bunch of wankers

  • i kno where your coming from how rap sucks and yes led zeppelin is a metal band but nothing like Iron maidan also they hated being called a heavy metal band this song is 100% blues

  • youre kind of a douche...

  • STUPID

    hazmatcom1=just plain retard

have u once thought that there could be teens(like myself)

that like both Rap(not rap nowadays) & Metal

Quite frankly the jonas bros, lil wayne, and Hannah Montana could die in a plane crash i wouldn't care

  • you do kno that im 15........

  • I know what you mean about the srum part, so did the Beastie Boys.

  • Zeppelin 4 i gotta say best one they got so many tasty good songs

  • this is the sexiest most seductive song...EVER!

  • i would die a happy man if i could hear Zeppelin do this live...

  • bonzo sounds sooo cool on this song!

  • Wiki is sadly at the mercy of us all. Levee Drums were recorded through a firepalce, and down the Hall from Laird Bonham. Period.

  • why is embed off :(

  • I'm thinking of letting my band listen to this. WE've always wanted to play When the Levee Breaks, but none of us can play harmonica

  • just get a harp in the same key, practice for about 3 days, you'll get something useable.

  • Thanks mate!

  • The drums in this song are fantastic. I love them.

  • No one can really blame Zep for stealing the original WTLB lyrics because in a way those werent the actual lyrics they used to begin with.

  • anyone can use when the levee breaks its like in the national archive or what eve like that camp town racers sing this song, song. didnt steal just Used the lyrics.

  • i can drum to this lol

  • i definately have to say tha tplants harmonica skills were underrated as a part of the band. great stuff

  • you can tell this is before they slowed the track down......

  • Yeah, mainly because of the vocals.

  • sounds faster allright....the whole take is slowed down on the original???....i guess the vocals are realtime?

  • well wikipedia says it was played at faster speed and about a half step higher, and then during mixing it was slowed down,

  • I prefer the other version but if only this version had been released it would still be close to my #1 Led zep song. Bonham's drumming is just fantastic!

  • Anyone know how page does that last little riff?

  • I love this version. This seems kind of slick to my ears. Good, but slick. I like both versions. I would pay top dollars for this version.

  • sick zep song

  • Nice version! Sounds like the boys are experimenting a bit with different sounds and textures - classic Zeppelin light vs. heavy stuff. Robert really sounds like he's trying to find his own sound for the song. You can hear him moving in and out of Kansas Joe McCoy (the original recording) and Robert Plant tones and melodies throughout - check out the Kansas Joe version when you get a chance.

In any case, this seems to be a masterpiece going through the growing in progress. Real artists at work!

  • its the best verison of this song !

  • pure heaven...
