Its relatively simple if you have a background on microcontroller programming. Basically all you need is any microcontroller that you're familiar with, and hook it up to the motors and sensors. The sensors may be purchased or built, but must have a voltage level suitable for the microcontroller inputs, 5V TTL in my case. Other than that, the program you write dictates what your robot will do. Good luck!
