there wasn't a single bad song on this album. used to rock the hell out of it when i was a freshman in high school; still have it. their later stuff was made-for-the-masses pop.
for me this was the time that this band ruled the world
a texas shaped stage, long horns, buzzards, and steers roasting along side the stage. It was called a texas size barn dance. Nashville raceway Oh by the way there was this new band opening up maybe youve heard of um FUCKIN LEONARD SKYNARD. Back when concerts left a impression and not just a hundred bucks
I was once listening to my local radio station, when whoever the jackass WAS, that 'began' to play The Master of Sparks, suddenly interrupted it, saying something like: Sorry, folks, but that's NOT what we meant to play! You just lost ME as a listener, you lousy radio people! That was one of the very BEST songs you've ever heard, and you just killed it.
Best album put out by this trio. This awesome, strange music came from my across-the-street neighbor's house and it just lured me over to the crispy, awesome sound that is ZZ Top! Learn to love it brothers and sisters.
To finish my comment. We would toss the cap of the jug and drink that shit straight! Wanting to finish it before we got to Olympia. We would take the long way. WE WERE JUST 16! We would rock this album out big time windows down, doing the slow cruise all fu^%ed up being real cool! He was the only kid in our class that had his own ride and i was his buddy. We had so much fun. I am amazed that we never got caught and are alive today. This song always takes me to that summer of 77. Different world
You all know the feeling of whenever you hear a certain song you snap back to a different time and place. Mine is back in 1977. I was 16 and a sophmore in HS. My buddy is a native american and he had fishing rights. So at 16, he had cash! Well he bought this brand new 77 Dodge power wagon all tricked out. We would drive to Olympia 1/2 hr from our house. We would hang outside the liquor store. Get a someone to buy us a bottle of Black Velvet. Pour the Velvet! We would put on ZZ Top Fandango.
This was a true, " bake your brain to the tune", while hitting off the bottle and smoking reffers back in the day. It still buzz's mine today, without the carnage.
I saw them on the 4th of July 1976, Liberty Stadium,Memphis, Fantastic show. Started with The Outlaws, next was Blue Oyster Cult, Then Skynyrd and Just as the sun was going down ZZ Top took the stage and blowed everyone away!!
ZZ Top before the beards and the 80's pop. Killer riffs, classic Gibbons guitar tone, and all out bad ass Texas blues rock. Thank God radio never caught onto this one to kill it through massive overplay, ala "La Grange" for the past twenty years.
@The420Bomber This is one fine piece of music that should be put away and only taken out on special occasions, like the silverware set Grandma kept in the hall closet !
I gotta disagree they still put out great music after Fandango,El Loco and Deguello both Rocked.Tejas as well even though it`s the weakest of the great albums.
ya, ZZ were just way cool back in the day. Seeing them live , twice 75 77, Listen to this American Power Trio. Only the right kind of distortion. These Irish ears cherish good distortion on a electric guitar. Long live Fandango!!
nasty dogs and precious and grace are the best . but after the fandango album they made lots of money but no more classics. they went the route of aerosmith
