In conclusion to my point I’m making, I believe the so called ‘priestly gene’ is not represented well by Haplogroup J1. Actually when you’re learned, it doesn’t make any sense to assert that Abraham, down to Moses’ brother Aaron, is of Haplogroup J1 ancestry. According to oral tradition, genetics, archaeology and undistorted history, it becomes quite clear that the smoking gun may be Haplogroup Subclade E1b1.
Furthermore, according to oral tradition, the Samaritan Cohen families were Levites. “These findings may offer more proof that E1b1 was one of the founding lineages of the Levites.” That last quoted sentence makes a lot of sense when you look at the place of origin of Abraham, which was Ur, which was located in East Africa, the place of origin for Haplogroup subclade E1b1.
East Africa is the location of origin for Y Haplogroup E (E1b1) and the genetic 'Adam'. E1b1 has two ‘immediate’ subclade descendants, E1b1a and E1b1b. A study was conducted by researchers regarding Samaritan Y Haplogroups and all Samaritan families were found in Haplogroups J1 and J2, except the Cohen family, which was found in Haplogroup sublcade of E1b1. The Samaritans have an oral tradition of ancestory to the tribes of Menesseh, Ephraim (Joseph) and Levi.
Another interesting point, regarding Ur (Abraham’s birth place), it is been concluded, due to cuneiform script translations that the people of Ur and Chaldea were from Kushite heritage. Kush was located in east Africa, in what is now known as Sudan. Kush or Cush was also referred to as Nubia and Ethiopia, in ancient Greek and Greco-Roman records.

The genetic signature in Y haplogroup J1 is considered the jewish priestly signature. But, what is not widely reported is that only 48% of Ashkenazi Cohanim have the J1 Cohen Modal Haplotype. What I also find interesting is that the research was done from a ‘group’ that considers themselves chosen, a commonality was found and termed the priestly signature. The basis for comparison are from contemporary genes, not ancient. This method is highly questionable.
DNA evidence shows more of the opposite – Ashkenazi jews are not Semitic. They are a mosaic and are more something else than Semitic, and certainly not 'Shemitic'. In conclusion to my point I’m making, I believe the so called ‘priestly gene’ is not represented well by Haplogroup J1. Actually when you’re learned, it doesn’t make any sense to assert that Abraham, down to Moses’ brother Aaron, is of Haplogroup J1 ancestry. According to the study, The Cohanim results do not disprove the genetic contribution of the Khazars. According to Behar (2004a), only four mtDNA groups account for approximately 70% of Ashkenazi mtDNA results. These haplogroups are K (32%), H (21%), N1b (10%) and J1 (7%). Notice how low J1 is, and this is supposed to be the priestly signature, but coming in only at 7%.

The genetic signature in Y haplogroup J1 is considered the jewish priestly signature. But, what is not widely reported is that only 48% of Ashkenazi Cohanim have the J1 Cohen Modal Haplotype. What I also find interesting is that the research was done from a ‘group’ that considers themselves chosen, a commonality was found and termed the priestly signature. The basis for comparison are from contemporary genes, not ancient. This method is highly questionable.

If you look at pigmentation in animals in general, surfaces that are exposed directly to sun tend to have the most pigment, and surfaces that are not exposed to sun have little or no pigment. The only purpose of pigment is to protect skin cells from sun damage, which is not much of a risk on the palms or soles of the feet.
