I just tried this sugar cookie recepie and mine didn't taste that great... instead of rolling out the dought and using cookie cutters (which I don't have) I rolled them in my hands and pressed them 1/4" flat into circles. Was that a bad move?

yeah. I actually didn't roll them out. For some dumb reason I told myself instead of just rolling them out make them into balls and bake them so I did. I figured when I was shaping them into balls and pressing them onto the cookie sheet i was working them to much and produced too much gluten.
