  • I was able to play it on my flute when I was 9 years old.The great times...

  • A Marvelous job by Keenlyside! And I had never heard of him before. Ganz herrlich.

  • Excelente actor y cantante, cualidades que no siempre coinciden en un solo artista.

  • soooooo sad, poor papageno...Lovely emotion!

  • In this version of "Magic Flute" Papageno is as wonderful, as Papagena is awful.

  • @tuprikov I don't think Papagena is that bad, I find her cute!! on the contrary, tamino sarastro and the 3 boys could be better!

  • i like the translation but it's not that accurate

but the do the german very good

    papageno!!

  • does anybody know where I can buy this?

  • @RobertandFriends There is a link to the amazon DVD on my channel :)

  • @RobertandFriends , you can buy the Blu-ray disc from amazon.com for the price of $ 36.00 or the DVD for less.

    Littlesausage.

  • I LOVE that glockenspiel prop!

More than I like Keenlyside's singing, I sadly have to say.

  • Beautiful rendition! Simon Keenlyside is the best Papageno I've ever seen...so rauchy...so human. Realistically performed. :-)

  • he is really amazing... acting, singing, simplicity, and the legato that loads of people would not agree that should be done, but I personally would do it myself. ( I've actually done on recordings, but not on live performances ) I really think this aria has to be sung like that , and not as a lyrical piece! Wonderful.

  • mozart would have given him the part...

  • WNDERFULL LEISTUNG... ERSTAUNT, ICH BIN

  • Der Holl Racht is the best aria by Mozart I think. Ein Madchen is great too. A lot of emotion in both. Mozart was good at displaying odd emotions. Not only Happiness and sadness, but anger and In this case, a hope for love.

  • if SImon couldnt sing he might be a great actor:-)))

    who knows.

  • Lilith, couldnt u upload the whole opera? It is the most fantastic opera i have ever seen. Please.

  • @veritaas Well, that won't be possible, unfortunately... You should buy the DVD! :)

  • @veritaas yes, buy the dvd it is worth buying not only because of SImon:-))))

  • 7:05 i lol'd so much

  • who played sarastro for this performance of the magic flute? also, could you upload "O Isis und Osiris"? i'd really appreciate it!!! :D

  • @lonestarlucas It was Franz-Josef Selig. Ok, I will :) Give me some time ^^

  • That duck on his head is hilarious. The director must be a Discworld fan. :D

Papageno is so adorable, and Simon is perfect.

  • @Sieglinde84 Oh, that would be SO awesome if he was. I will try to find out! xD

  • vom feinsten

  • He is the perfect Papageno. He has the comedy and the sensitivity. It's such a sweet gesture when he clutches his heart at 5:45.

  • his pronounciation ist perfect. the translation however lacks of originality

  • @farbschlacht Perhaps not, but he's got a great voice. Plus that little dance at 4:55 gets me every time.

  • I am laughing! He makes me smile every time when I see this! He is really really nice!

  • I love this one the most from the whole Magic Flute - Simon Keenlyside is fantastic! Thank you for sharing!

  • My pleasure! He really is wonderful in the role. And in many others :D

  • that voice, oh my god

  • @erikcumbria

yes, he IS fantastic, isn´t he :-))))

  • Great singer and great actor as well!!!

  • @bebetonguga exactly my point.

  • How come he rises his shoulders sometimes?

Anyway, I had never noticed how hilarious the end dialogue was!!! ^^

  • Comment removed

  • "HERRRRRRRRRRRRlich!" LOL

  • I would love to see the dramaturgy notes on this. Wonderful voice and faultless orchestra!

  • Exelente Papageno!!! Bravooo!!!

    Mis respetos Mr. Keenlyside!!!

  • brilliant papageno, brilliant production!

  • Amazing given that for the entire second act he's performing with a broken hand (hence the squiffy fingers on his left hand)

  • what great staging, acting...incredible

  • Simon Keenlyside!!!!!!

  • YEAH GO SIMON!!!!!! He's the best Papageno ever ^^

  • THE BEST EVER FOREVER!!

  • Super adorable scene :D Who could not love Papageno? He's so funny and cute. And Simon sings like a god.

  • ohh I looooooove Papageno!!! and now, sung by simon keelnyside... O_O!!!

  • Very quiet charming and great performance.

    I love his voice.

  • Agreed! I love his voice, and his interpretation is fantastic!

  • Simon Keenlyside is fantastic!!

  • Quiet chaming... really... love the perfomance. Thnaks for post. My kindest regards,

  • I love Keenlyside.:) But there he moves his hands in a very strange way, doesn't he? :P

  • Yes (in character) he does move the hands in an interesting way... lets not forget Keenlyside really is a master with regards to stagecraft. In my humble opinion the character of Papageno is in the exciting and emotional transitional phase of metamorphosis from boy to man. Have a think about the hand movements now...;). However, i was a slight disappointed with his Count Almaviva. Either way, well noticed!!! I could not agree more Keenlyside is wonderful. My warm regards,

  • Esta aria es el resumen absoluto de mi situación actual.

  • I've heard he tore the tendons on his left hand on the rehearsals

  • Aah this just describes my life...

  • hahahahahahaha OMG papagena!!!! It's so refreshing to see comic opera ACTUALLY BEING FUNNY!!!! What a great production! :D

  • One of the best versions...? THIS is the best version. The best version of this aria, the best version of this opera. I'd like to see the other arias of this opera.

  • He is so versatile... I can hardly believe that this is the same man who played the vile Don Giovanni. Amazing.

  • @evilsushix or the heartbreaking Hamlet :))))

  • I love Papageno! I think he's far more interesting than Tamino, and really just adorable :)

  • The scene with Papagena is like a parody on these modern productions... It looks quite nice here, but it is sad, that noble heroes of serious operas do alike and even worse in many productions (sorry I know that my english is not very good).

  • Don't be so hard on yourself. Your English is better than most people in my dumbass ridden country.

  • A true inspiration for all baritones. Bravo.

  • Thank you Lilith you made my day!! :)

    OMG OMG!!

Why can't he come down south to Sri Lanka for a recital?? I'd give anything to see him perform live!!

  • Oh, I saw him live in Don Giovanni last week. He's GREAT! ^^

    You are very welcome :)

  • By the way, do you know how I can get the DVD in Sri Lanka? Do they sell on Amazon??

  • Yes, they do :) Anyway, have you considered moving to the States or Europe? xDDD

  • oh god.. Don't tease me about not being able to see any of the fame and glory live... :( it's already bad as it is.. :'( sniff..

  • Hey, I was living in this small island in the middle of the Mediterranean sea. No opera at all. And now I'm living in Barcelona! I was not teasing you, I was serious about it!

  • hehe. i was exaggerating a bit.. :P Well, there isn't even an opera company in this country.. not that I know of...

Perhaps if I go to the states for uni, I'll be able to see some of the wonders live with my own eyes..

  • Oh, well, if you left this year you would see Diana as Lucia! I guess you still have to wait another year? Anyway, I hope you'll be able to go to the States ;)
