Wasn't Melle Mel & the Furious Five. It was Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. This dude is robbing the truth right out of the kings mouth. GMF was the first. Not this fuck. GMF Brought this fool aboard, and now hes pawning it off.
I agree it was originally Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five... Melle Mel was part of the Furious Five and due to a falling out Melle Mel became Grandmaster Melle Mel. One of the reasons was Grandmaster Flash's drug habit, falling out's happen in any business. But to say Melle Mel is a fool is just stupid, hes the reason why there is rap and not just bada ba dabang a dang-dang! But ricco549 what would you know, your only 20. A member of the furious five passed before you were born.
yo,it's sugarhill records that credited the record to grandmaster&melle mel,in order to fool the public that grandmaster flash hasd participated on the record.
2 masters at work. nice to see our hip hop pioneerS still alive & well..melle mel always had great lyrical content..the soul clap was DEF!# 3 on the phone!...word
the last verse was acapella blood cus it was the only verse he wrote. duke boote & sylvia robinson had that sht tied up. Him & flash got caught up in a court dispute in the mid eighties over the use of the name grandmaster. it was all the lable cus mel wanted to do his own ting & up & leave.
The men and the message that turned the whole world on its ear! Everybody who picks up a mic in the name of hip hop should be paying this guy royalties, so he wouldn't have to be playing dookie J&R promotions.
Then again, maybe the irony of it says a lot too. After all, who sold more "boom boxes" than these old cats? Huh a ha ha ha ha!
Torn about this. Love that they're out and doin this! And love the a capella starting at 5:43...but wish that Caz was spinning like in the old days, rather than playing the original song under Mele Mel's rap...I understand why he started spinning Chic's "Good Times" at the end, but it kind of clashed with what was happening on the mic. Exciting in some ways, and I'm glad I saw it - thanks for posting - but also a little bit frustrating.
best rap lyrics ever even after almost 30 years, never tire of this song
