  • Reshad Evans didn't like this video.

  • traditional martial arts and family member trainers ftw :D Lyoto Machida is an awesome martial artist

  • at 1:32 is that a fart?

  • i thought they were standing on concrete...

  • 4:38 karate is my life...beautiful

  • @gimnli if you want be like lyoto just karate not enough. limited style cant make you fighter,

  • favourite fighter!!

  • Lyoto machida is one of the greatest UFC fighters i dont care he lost to shogun or rampage is the best to me and his karate is the best ( also gsp's as wel)

  • I like how he trains to fight. He practices full mma fighting with his partner as if they were in the cage. its not just BJJ or Karate but also fighting against the cage and level changes all other things. he trains by doing.

  • machida will be around for along time becuase of his background and you can see that he's just that type of fighter. like manny pacquio he's like all philippines, they just get tougher and i think thats what will happen with lyoto he will just get wiser and tougher and go on and on! i know he's from brazil!

  • 1:31 someone farted lol

  • 4:25, what?

  • 2:56 kick. YES.

  • @MrSexyama

Actually Shogun had a knee injury during that fight that caused him pain before and after the fight that didn't allow him to perform his best.

  • shogun isnt all that..he got his ass wooped by lame ass forest griffin

  • ishii is a monster.

  • I love reading all these comments talking about how he's gonna be the champ for a long time, must have been posted before shogun knocked his ass out xD. He's still a great fighter and I have much respect for him, but I'm a shogun fan at heart!

  • yeah

  • 4:23 He just destroy that guy.. i'm sur he was down for a while

  • GUYS HELP ME!

is it too late for me to train MUY TAI in the age of 16?

  • @Cxeri93 its not to late, go for it... Jigaro Kano the founder of judo started jujitsu when he was seventeen and now look at him he is a legend forever

  • @321MJB

omg thnx man.. :D btw, which style is the best? Muy tai or kickboxing?

  • @Cxeri93

well i know youve probaly heard this alot before but no style is better then the other, it just depends on what you like and what is right for you... but muay thai is a very well rounded, intense stand up style that allows you to use leg kicks, elbows, knees, clinching, and throws... kickboxing is a little more limited to what you can do, however they are normally a lot better at boxing then thai boxers

  • @321MJB

oh ok.do all fight syles have defense?

  • @Cxeri93 yah all styles have to have some way to defend against attacks. However there are a lot of different ways to defend yourself, the best thing is to be able to get out of the way and not get hit at all but that doesn't always work so the different styles have created different ways to block if you cannot get out of the way successfully...

  • @321MJB

oh yeah true... i find it very very hard to counter-attack aggainst a kick or a punch... but im sure your vision aint that good that you can see the punch coming in slow motion. would be cool if you could take those hits just by countering.. if you train and train and train day by day - just defense/counter attacks.. i think you would counter any hit very good.. what you think? would it work ..?

  • @Cxeri93 ya counters work well and we just saw machida get countered an koed but counters are difficult to execute during an actual fight without a lot of experience and practice... however if u drill a counter over and over and it becomes muscle memory you will be able to do it in a fight without even thinking so ya counters can work very well but keep in mind u also need the proper distance and timing to have them land effectively so train with that in mind...

  • @321MJB

yeah, cos i really wanna begin a style that has great counters.. every style has their own sort of counters, but i think Muay Thai is the best. idk, i just hear it often from lots of ppl.. How many styles are there? Muay Thai, Kick boxing, Taek wondo... and more i guess

  • @Cxeri93 there are so many styles out there like muay thai, muay lao, muay boran bokatar, wtf taekwondo, itf taekowndo, mma, shotokan karate, kyokushin karate, shorin ryu karate, brazilian jujitsu, shuai jia, many styles of japanese jujutsu, Judo, Boxing, many styles of kung fu and not just like what you see in the movies.......

I could go on forever, I am cross training in a few different styles right now. Im taking wtf taekwondo, muay thai, judo, boxing, and mma classes

  • @321MJB - I'm glad someone knows there Martial Arts. A lot of new MMA practitioners want to believe that Muay Thai or Boxing is the only stand up that works in MMA.. Most certainly it's successful, but I think even a Capoeira fighter with good BJJ would do well..

  • @xchargerOUx yah i dont think it really matters the style all that matters is that the style fits the person and how they apply it to mma or whatever other combat sport

  • @Cxeri93 Definitely not, a lot of the MMA fighters today started doing Muay Thai when they were in their teens, Anderson Silva for example actually started doing Muay Thai after he started doing Taekwondo which was at 14. For someone like me I started at 21 so yeah no one's really too old to learn martial arts.

  • It's theman not the style in this case. Afraid shogun is the dragon killer though!!

  • If someone can possibly beat Fedor. Machida might be that person.

  • karate is not for me, but good on him for sticking to what he believes in and not jumping on the muay thai/bjj band wagon. We need more guys like him in MMA.

  • lol 4:23 he almost killed that guy

  • "Karate is a life-long persuit", rule no.1 of Shotokan.

  • Oss !!!

  • this guy is my biggest inspiration

  • Natural athlete, worthy champion, tough to defeat.

  • I'm very sure that Lyoto has opened people's eyes in the MMA world not just for Karate, but traditional martial arts in general. Traditional martial arts can be highly effective in MMA, but some people don't look deep enough into certain styles to see their true potential. For example, we know Anderson Silva is a BJJ black belt & Muay Thai expert, but he's also a black belt in Tae Kwon Do & is well trained in Capoeira.

  • @BFF305 no. its nothing to do with the superiority of the styles, its the superiority of the person. your an idiot though "traditional martial arts" cannot be highly effective in mma, theres just ONE superior fighter that trains all the time, in many different disciplines and you say that means that traditional martial arts can be highly effective? you obviously dont know anything about fighting.

  • First of all, I didn't say anything about which style is superior. I'm simply saying that different styles with different tactics can be applied effectively depending on the fighter's skill. Besides, at the end of the day MMA is still a sport. The basic styles taught in MMA didn't start out as sports. real muay thai was originally a battlefield art. So was Tae Kwon Do and Jiu Jitsu which later became Judo which later became Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

  • @BFF305 andersons tkd and capoeira are non existant in the cage as they are both very low percentage non combat styles.Lyotos sucess hasnt revealed anything about karate as far as i can see as a single instance in16 years isnt evidence of anything.Any style that doesnt feature fullcontact sparring nor include grappling and wastes alot of time on kata and other crap is going to produce very few fighters but some people are great despite training

  • @billysue2 kyokushin has produced alot of great fighters, lidell, hug,st pierre there quite a few more. and anderson silvas tkd and capoera do have a big influence on his fights that's what makes him so difficult to predict, his strikes are so complex though I agree that katas only don't make good fighters I believe that it's down to how you use what you learn.

  • @oroge lidell did hawaiian kempo and kickboxing at the same gym ,never kyokushin.GSP hasnt done any karate training in a decade and uses none of it effectively in fights.Hug was a great kickboxer who trained for many years with a boxing coach to reach the level he did, without that hed have gotten nowhere.Without head punches a style is very limited.

  • @BFF305 does not matter what backround has fighter it is matter what he use..95% strikes fighter uses from muay thai, even his taekwondo thats why muay thai is most efective..you cnt use traditional martial arts in combat fight..those stance those training routine those strikes not effective and would not work.lyoto is sucesful because he trained bjj wrestling, muay thai, if he would be only traditional artis he would not even sruvive 1round.

  • the main differences with shotokan (JKA, SKI, etc.) training, reside in the tactics/footwork, updated conditioning, inclusion of circular punching and the judo/ jujutsu ground work. which are VERY MUCH needed. Hopefully coaches, masters and practitioners will REEVALUATE karate do, bringing us more mma fighters as Judo has. by realistic sparring & planned conditioning. since most tournaments are for points. and the mayority of karate teachers aren't physical, educators, or certified trainers.

  • machida looks like he just stepped out from a movie set...anybody see that?

  • this is jus great technic. Peaple jus wanna punch and kick hard, but most of guys dont wanna how be tecnical fight just becouse is a harder type of trainning.

  • The most impressive thing about Machida is not his striking, it's his footwork. Just watching his fights, he's usually no longer there by the time his opponents' strikes are at full extension, and he's in position to do whatever he wants. The plyometric exercises probably add quite a lot to his already fast movement.

  • his strikes are so precise and powerful. i find it hard to find an error in his technique, even when he is gassed(tired).he is easily one of the best mma fighters

  • Вот он имбицыл...

  • 2:54 ouch xxD

  • i know everyone in north america is waiting for machida to open a karate school...he said he'd eventually open one during the ufc 104 press conference in L.A.....the sooner the better.

  • eu queria dar so um treino cm eles ...... karate shotokan manéééé´rsrsrsrs

  • lyoto é fera so precisa melhora no ingles :D

  • wrong his particular style of Karate is shotokan!

  • wrong his style is based on shotokan but renamed machida karate cause his father remodel it.

  • I agree completely, but none the less it derives from shotokan !

  • greenday sucks

  • this guy hasnt even lost a round yet in the ufc.

  • I'd say I'd like 2 c 'em fight Fedor, but I'd get a lotta those remarks.

  • martial arts needed him. all the wrestlers and boxers have no chance.

  • Urine must have super genes in it.

  • Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida would never fight eachother. They are training partners as well as good friends.

  • If the price is right...

  • im so happy 2 finally see someone in mma who's style is strictly based on karate. The most traditional style of fighting and no one uses it but Machida and hes proven 2 b very effective. I would LOVE 2 c him vs anderson silva for the light heavyweight belt!

  • Your full of B.S.

  • GSP uses karate also

  • Kyokishan karate 2 b exact

  • you are right.. he has the tattoo on his left breast lol

  • its brazilian mate style! just rulessssssssss

  • Japanese and Brazilian ;)

  • Machida want to fight the best!

    Fedor doesn't !

  • because Fedor has nothing left to prove.

  • Fedor has already fought the best and beat them all. He doesn't need to prove anything to anybody anymore.

  • fought the best? he fights kids when there down!

  • lol true true

  • he is going to be light heavyweight chap for a long time....he is very hard to defeat...he is a great fighter one of the best of MMA along with fedor

  • @kensei010 id say he will be defeated by shogun in the rematch if shogun gets a bit more agressive and goes for the finish with more conviction.Lyoto didnt look good in their last match

  • @kensei010 hahahahaha,,shogun destroyed him

  • @kensei010 , didnt last that long wen shogun knocked him the fuck out :D

  • @kensei010 so much for that idea

  • thumbs up! to machida

  • his dad is a true martial artist not just a mma coach he understands things on a inate level thats why lyoto does so well and his talent lol.

  • @calexrose why is this funny? is it because you cannot use proper grammar?

    jk

  • @djpuffycube I wasnt making fun of machida i was ,aking remark about how he was taught which is pretty unusual in this day and age he was trainning karate when most of the people doing mma were playing football or baseball so its as natural as taking a piss . Thats why it funny

  • @calexrose shogun found the weakness and decemated standing strikes andd ground strikes!

  • What are is this mate?
