Al-Qaeda are and -extremist- religious group who use God to validate their actions. Even though religion is mostly the cause for all this suffering. It won't change the fact that humans have known destruction, violence, suffering, and much more throughout the history without having to add religion to the equation. If religion didn't exist, it wouldn't change much since people worship other things other than God such as money, oil, weapons, etc. that do cause conflicts in this world.
