There was a time, before VCR's, where if you saw a good performance on tv then odds are you would never see it again. Or so it was thought. This was one of Dan's better performances of one of his best songs. It was a personal favorite of mine in high school. I just saw it again.
Such a beautiful song, such a touching song with such beautiful, meaningful lyrics. Dan always knew how to grab at your heart strings with his songs!! Gone too soon my friend. RIP Dan. We miss you and the inspiration you gave all us fans. Such a poetic genius. <3
Last night in my dream I heard the piano intro from this song and I haven't heard it since I was a child. Don't know why or where it came from, but upon awakening I immediately found it online and now I'm obsessed with working it up on my piano. Dont know why I posted this, I just know this is a special song to us all, I didnt even know Dan had passed, and even in dreams he still inspires.
Thinking and missing Dan on this day. Looked at my framed copy of his birthday announcement this a.m. and could only smile and give thanks for the legacy of music he left us.
Not many songs today that express the yearning and hearfelt emotion that this song does. Talent like this is greatly missed! Love the contributions of sax man, Michael Brecker, also.
Asquare176=I couldnt agree more..Dan was so cool and had the human side to go with awesome talent...cant believe he passed away last christmas....his music is timelessly beautiful!
Keep coming back to this. God, I really love this performance! He was on "fire" with his songwriting.Phoenix(album) released in 1980,chartered #3 on Billboard,Heart Hotels(single)chartered to #3 and the other single Longer chartered to #1 also on Billboard. The remaining 8 songs on the album are just awesome. In the same year 1980, Same Old Lang Syne was released,it chartered to #9 on the Billboard.Dan you were the man of the hour, the week and the year. Dan thanks for the memories and the music.
Thanks for the post. I remember this when it aired. God, what a talent! This just makes me miss him more. I have echos of unanswered prayers..wish you were here!
Such talent.
