if youve ever read the book night, (a holocaust book) very early in it it says thesign above the front gate says work will set you free, also a line in the song
A lot of people seem to say that this video directly ties to the holocaust, but the more broader explanation of this subject is actually about how modern holocaust happens in general.
@rsxdarkxsin FUCK YOU, I WILL SPEAK HOW I WANT, FUCK YOU AND YOUR RULES, FUCK YOU AND YOUR SYSTEM, FUCK YOU AND YOUR TEACHERS, FUCK YOU, I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT
Oh god I feel so angry for the people who died in Auschwitz and all the other camps. I wish all the nazis could've just died before they had a chance to do anything to anyone. Great song though, they do the lyrics very well.
I think the people suggesting this is about the holocaust is correct! Amazing! I was POSITIVE this was about getting clean from drugs and alcohol.... which I mean, it is still, to me and probably many but that doesn't refute the obvious holocaust references.
The victors write the history, usually exaggerating the wrongs of the defeated. The mass extermination theory does not stand up to scientific-caliber scrutiny. Be warned though, to deny is to be attacked with slander and insults. Not a very scientific approach, eh?
People about to be killed were told that they are supposed to wash themselves. They would be led into a room where the gas would stream out of shower heads.
@skatehead3 It's most definately a Holocaust reference. The title of the song itself, "Get Clean", refers to genocide (IE- The 'cleansing' of an impure race/society).
@skatehead3 It's most definately a Holocaust reference. The title of the song itself, "Get Clean", refers to genocide (IE- The 'cleansing' of an impure race/society). But like you said: the song is -wicked- awesome.
@skatehead3 Yup - the "sign above the front gate" part is exactly on. The sign read "Arbeit Macht Frei", which in German means "Work brings freedom" or "Work liberates". Of course, its more understood these days as "Work Will set you free". But you basically got down the main parts that link it to the holocaust. Thanks for that! :) And I agree - Great song; Great band! 5 stars from me, as well!

Yep and how ti says the front gates say "Work will set me free" it is because at the concetration/death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau that was what sign hung above the entrance and as many other camps
yes. the line "sign above the front gate says work will set me free" work will set me free was on a sign from the main concentration camp in poland known as "auschiwtz"
The line "I recognize a childhood friend who tells me that my turn" is from Anne Frank when she meets with a friend of hers from school through the fence at Auschwitz.

very good song we strong meaning. great band. 5 stars
cman7711 2 years ago
It is probably about the Holocaust. I'll try to point out some obvious things....
1: The "sign above the front gate" line sounds like a reference to Auschwitz, an infamous concentration camp.
2: In the choruses, he is saying "Try not to breathe", which refers to the gas chambers used to kill those in the camp.
3: This is the most obvious. In the first line he says "The numbers on my wrist" which refers to numbers tatooed to jews wrists in the camp.
Great song and great band. 5 stars!

thats exactly correct the sign litterally translates to "Work will set you free"
also the trenches that hold countless dead bodies that couldn't go to the furnaces
