Can you help me guys my car is Renault 19 1.7 CC motor F2N carburetor SOLEX 32/34 Z13
problems is : the RPM is not (( stable ) for example its start 800 RPM then after few minutes it become 700 then it back to 800 this make the Engine noise
my Question can tuning the idle mixture fix this problem
i have some photos for the same carb type

@BigManJOF92 its idle mixture, so when you hit the gas it will stil be the same...the point is that your RPM is not too high or not low to turn off engine. You cant get a rocket :p
If you don't no alot abt cars and you got a prob with yours just put some gas on the seat and light a match and run. And this will fix all your prob and then by a1980 or so year they last longer then any new car
Now if only I could get my car to idle long enough to warm up for proper adjustment. That's the one thing I'm hating about carb tuning.....oh, that and my fussy weird f@%#in Keihin 3 barrel CVCC carb that NO ONE posts any useful info about (since no one in their right mind HAS one). I'd kill for a weber but California wont let me use one.
this guys retarded. car off, turn in till seated on both screws, then out one and a quarter turns evenly. next start the car and let it warm up, set your idle speed screw, then a quarter of a turn at a time with a vacuum gauge hooked up, turn both screws evenly! untill your vacuum with not get higher. remember evenly on both screws. last set your curb idle, which is the car in drive or in gear, so it idles smoothly when stopped at a light. good luck!
NO, this is how to make a base adjustment after that you have to tune it based on mixture readings from a o2 sensor (if you dont have one you can get a exhaust clip on sensor or you can weld in a bung at the collector for one.)
Reduceing down until a bog and back up a quater will not give the proper ratio for the given timing advance and idle speed, it just gives a default starting point for inital tuning.
AAArgh! I wish I had a holley or an edelbrock! I'm drivin an old Honda and trying to get my "Keihin 3 Barrel" (Ha Ha Ha) tuned in after a rebuild.....
heck, I'd be happy with anything! Weber makes carbs for my car but I don't think they are California Smog legal....
I've got my carb "Dialed in" enough to run/idle well, it starts right up and it doesn't run too rich or anything, I still can't seem to pass smog though..... I'm thinking my problems MAY be elsewhere (EGR, cause I'm failing on NOX)...
Don't know if this smog jargon makes sense to you....but either way sometimes living in California is a pain in the butt!
@nightmathzombieethan Yeah... I don't know much of anything about CA models or smog laws... I live in AR and here we can do anything we want... An exhaust shop won't cut "cats" off but we ourselves do and nothing is ever done about it... We don't even have basic vehicle inspections anymore... The cops can still give tickets for broken lights and windows... That's about it though... Oh...and "unsafe" tires... Even then it is usually warnings... Verbal and/or written... Try some websites out...
I have a friend who does this. They cut open little notches on the top part of the tubing (out of sight...) and it's worked for the last 6 years. Apparently it draws fresh air into the exhaust pipe reducing the recorded ppm of "smog". On the other hand, you could just lean it out and tell the inspector you got some bad gas at the station...
Hmmmmmm It makes sense, I think there would be enough backpressure to create vacuum if it was right up near the exhaust ports, high up on the manifold.... I think my only concern would be that if I got it wrong and there wasn't a vacuum, there would be pressure, and hence lot's of Noise (Which might make the "Leak" obvious)...
TBI? I freakin wish!!!! Cats fine, Carb's running lean though, High NOx. The car is STILL being tweaked on, thankfully by a man who actually teaches Smog courses at UTI, so if THAT doesn't work I don't think I have any more options.... Looks like I'll have to put a B18 in it or somethin! (I wish!).

-So you want to adjust mixture without a vacuum meter...
-It probably ends up running "marvelous"

That is for your idle mix, and will not adjust A/F Ratio.

@nightmathzombieethan You have a good carb... It just takes time to get it right... Also... I like Holley a lot more than Edelbrock...

Cut a couple air inlets in your exhaust ;)

You think? At this point I'm not averse to trying any "Tricks"!
I wish I could find a smog guy who wanted to make a few hundred extra....
;-)
If I tried this, wouldn't they notice the "Leak" though?

How big/how many/where were the notches?

TBI FTW...
just kidding, carbs work fine when your not too worried about emissions... maybe your cat is shot.

Do you do this when the car is warm or cold?
What about using a vacuum gauge?
zingerz350r 3 years ago
Operating temperature, thinking 140F-180Fdegrees depending on application.

i know ur comment is old but, u should do it when the engine is hot so there is no choke on.
