Why can't the kids of today understand what REAL MUSIC and dancing is and how cool 1966 was! Go Go Girls, Discotheques, and 60's Garage Punk rule supreme!
I saw the Sons of Adam a few times in 1966 at Bido Lito's... They were riveting. They had strong, hair-raising songs. The lead guitarist was by far the best I'd heard up to that time... a year before Hendrix.
@SamFerdoo Hi, caught me surfing again! I was curious if you remember when during 1966 at Bido-Lito's? In August I moved to hollywood to join the Sons of Adam, and pretty quick, one of the gigs for a few months was at Bido Lito's (Bill, Dorothy, Linda and Tommy was where the name came from - a family, imagine that back then!) I met the Iron Butterfly there, and we put them up in our band house for their first night in Hollywood.
Drugs were not common at this point, but were coming along soon. Most of those people were quite young, I bet Ann Bancroft was early twenties at most--people just looked more mature back then.
AB was mighty hot back then, by any standard!I am nostalgic for those more innocent times.
The one guy at the table is Dabney Coleman,I think. The other guy used to be on Mission Impossible.I believe his name is Steven Hill.Correct me if I'm wrong.Thanks.
im reading an interview with randy holden i didnt know much about him other than the sons of adam the interview is in a book called urban spaceman and wayfaring strangers by richie unterburger very good book
Their biggest claim to fame was opening for The Stones in 1964. It was downhill from there. Joe Kooken was an ex-engineering student from Boston, who thought he could make it in L.A. playing guitar. Joe had a house in Laurel Canyon.
Joe started having drug and financial trouble, and changed his name to Jack Ttanna. Then Mike changed the group name to God.
Joe was pushing thirty when I last saw him. He was gaunt and his hair was already thinning. He's now holed up in Seattle.
Little Randy Holden looks like he's having an identity crisis: Why is my hair long and my clothes more bohemian, and I'm still playing this 'surf guitar' music?
This was just on cable tv a few minutes ago. (tcm} I've seen this clip many times and it still gets me going everytime . Classic!! Randy Holden is a God and this instro really wails. Would have loved to seen them live in 65.
By far, the greatest era in Rock Music! 1I will never leave this era! I've been stuck in this era since i was a little kid in the mid-60's 1966 FOREVER!
without a doubt a historical performance...great instro...shame they're not showing too much of the band though, especially since they looked so cool!
How transitional was this? Punks with Rolling Stones' hairstyles, still playing surf music!

Randy Holden also was in The Fender IV, a great surf group. The Sons of Adam released a few 45s and all are excellent.
