  • It's interesting to watch how much her image changed from early pictures at the start of her career like 1:36 and 1:56 looking very au naturale, gradually getting more and more synthetic looking to the ones like 3:17 and 4:32.

I know people have to move with the times and keep up with fashion, but I just think she looked so much classier and prettier back then. Now she looks like a middle aged stripper lol. But at least she can still sing good.

  • @soundseeker63 I still think she looks good but some days its like what are you wearing? They let you go out like that? You should look at i stay in love live ama's i think it was 2009. she looks so beautiful there and covered up.

  • Mariah looks good,mmm

  • This song has nothing to do with Mariah Carey, they are even spelt different.

  • @eojet Mariah Carey was named after this song.

  • She's no more but my baby GrandDaughter was named after her. I love you Sweetie, one day we'll all be together. GrandPa Max.

  • Mariah Carey's mother, an opera singer in NY, named her for the song-They Call the Wind Mariah-from the musical "Paint Your Wagon."

  • @grampamsjrts -except that MC's mother didn't spell it as it was written for the musical. Lerner and Loewe titled it "Maria" - the British pronunciation for Maria was "Mar-EYE-a." Look up any L&L copyrighted version, as the original musical recording on rhapsody or sheet music sites like sheetmusic plus or music notes.

  • This song has nothing to do with Mariah Carey!

  • @mdmaag Weeeeell... Technically, you're right, it's just that it is said that MC was called Mariah because of this song so he probably made a tribute :)

  • my name is mariah!!!

  • hah yeahh my names Mariah && EVERY time someone asks for my name, n i tell them, they either say, "Oh, like Mariah Carey"? or they actually sing "They call the wind mariah" haha its gets old after a while!!

  • sorry, better than Harve Presnell.

  • best version ever. better than Clints.

  • Does life imitate art, or does art imitate life. Was Mariah Carey named aftter this song or was the song written about Mariah Carey? hmmmmm (Yes, I know the song was written long before the birth of MC)

  • I grew up on my parent's favorites: The Kingston Trio, The New Christy Minstrels (anyone remember them??), and Peter, Paul, and Mary. Still love them all to this day!

  • This is a wonderful version of a great song. Is it from the "Hungry I" album?

  • She'd look just great sitting across the breakfast table.

  • You heard of Earth, wind and fire aint ya ?

    Well meet wind.....

  • This is the best version of this song. Who os the lead vocalist?

  • Bob Shane of the Kingston Trio is the lead.

  • Bob Shane

  • @Dunkleosteus9

The lead vocalist is BOB SHANE

  • my mom named me after this song =]

  • @MariahLu00 my names mariah too lol

  • Don't you mean "They call the windbag Mariah?"

  • Comment removed

  • dfgd

  • i love it

  • Mariah is spanish for wind, but it is pronounced a little different. That is the reason for the song "Call the wind Mariah"

  • Great video of one of the world's most favorite pop princesses of all time. Mariah Carey.

  • Her parents named her after this song.

  • This song was recorded at San Francisco in the Hungry i in 1958.

    # 2 LP of the Kington Trio with Dave Guard, Bob Shane and Nick Reynolds

  • Nice bit of musical history there, with lots of nice pictures of Mariah. I like the song too.

  • the best version

  • This video is kinda creepy... if u were a guy ud be a stalker--like the kind that tried to kill reagan to impress Jody Foster (was that who he was trying to impress? I can't remember)

  • Better to be called Mariah Carey than Pariah Scary.

Mariah Carey is a fleshpot of juicy woman bits.

Not sure I really love the bongo version of this windy song.

  • Sigh....idiots and their Mariah Carey comments.

Song has nothing to do with her...

  • Yeah every video I see of this song has her in the info. Bit annoying. She's not the only Mariah out there :P (Me too.)

  • This is one of the GREATEST vids on YT!!!!!! An excellent match between music and vid professionals who are behind making this sooooooo great. Thanks ever so much for psoting this on YT kaartje, kduso to you on future projects!!!!!!!

    C H E E R S!!!!

  • Sounds like John Stewart with the Kingston Trio, such is a rare verse here. Thanx a bunch for this vid/tune combo match perfectly.

  • No, it's Dave Guard singing behind Bob Shane lead vocals with Nick Reynolds in bongos from the group's landmark 1958 album "From the Hungry i". There is, however, a just-released on 8/10/09 new CD of a Kingston Trio concert in 1963 that DOES have John Stewart singing back-up on this number - and for my money, it's even better than this one.

  • Ever heard Joe and Eddie do this? It's outstanding. Check it out.

  • I love this song, and this is my favorite version of it.

  • My name's Mariah!! I was named after Mariah Carey and growing up, people that found out my name were like "Oh, like the song?"

  • That's funny, because I'm the exact opposite. I was named after this song, and when people hear my name they're like, "Oh, like Mariah Carey?" lol

  • i was named after mariah carey and the same thing happens to me

like im in school and someone will say my name then some one will say

"Oh, like Mariah Carey!" to me i get mad sometimes buts its ok lol

  • John Todd, former Illuminati witch, explains that Mariah means Lucifer in wicca and represents the power of the wind

    see IDK1Bnbd1eI

  • MARIAH is the awesomest name eva!!!

  • it's so cool, she actually looks like my mom in some pics with curly hair!

  • i love this song <3

i was born in the middle of a storm so my mom named me maraya(mariah) after the wind

  • Only a true star would take a photo like :30 at such a young star. It's so strange that some people really are born to do certain things - she was born to be a star.

  • at such a young AGE*

  • First I do the splits over an egg; then I do a somersault into an open watermelon.

  • hahhaha, thats funny! XD

    comment for : "BRIANSHANERUSHTON"

  • all I can say is that the kingston trio were a very important part of my musical upbringing, I still love everything that they have ever done, thank you for the music and the humour they had in their performances.

  • MC(L)

  • pannic stfu who gives a scratch...lol if they wrote asong about u it wulda say dumbass spelled pannicatack...lol, jus enjoy the music and be still man lol messin with my buzz

  • It's spelled 'Maria' in the song title. Not 'Mariah.' It might sound like 'Mariah,' but every publication of the sheet music has it spelled 'Maria.'

  • ive seen 2 different Kingston trio books and its spelled both ways

  • Awesome... Luv it and Mariah too :)

  • NO one has ever come close to this in almost 50 years...This withstands the test of time.. Sung at the Hungry i I believe in 1959

  • Yup I got the LP :)

  • i was named after mariah carey and this song.

  • I can almost promise that this song wasn't written for anyone. It's an old song. Very old. Not only that watch "Paint Your Wagon." You all need to get over the fact that everything b/c of you. Lots of things have happened over 100-200 years ago. As has this song.

  • The Kingston Trio said(elsewhere on YouTube)the song came from a Broadway musical which flopped. They were the first to sing it after that. Paint You Wagon (Clint Eastwood)stole it from them.

  • "Paint Your Wagon" WAS the Broadway show that became the Eastwood movie and is the origin of the song. The film flopped, but the original show was successful - the KT was exaggerating slightly.

  • I Love Paint Your Wagin lol Lee Marvin is God lol

  • TRIVIA: Don't you know guys that the parents of Mariah Angela Carey a.k.a. Mariah Carey who are Patricia Hickey (Irish-American) and Alfred Roy Carey (African-American/Venezuelan) got Mariah's name from this song "They Call The Wind Maria" (spelled 'Maria' without the H, but pronounced 'Mariah') a popular Lerner & Loewe musical, Paint Your Wagon (1969).... and this was also the year when Mariah Carey was born. ^__^

  • mariah has NO middle name.

    ONLY MARIAH CAREY!!

  • and mariah was born a year later after this song

    in 1970

  • I wish she wasnt a plastic skank now though!

  • Mariah blows the stars around....

  • i was named after this song x.X

  • really? my dad named me after this song too! ^^

  • Oh my god, she's so beautiful!!! 02:12 is just so sultry and classy.....look at her now!!!! why would she have wanted to replace natural with just plain UNnatural???

    where'd u get these pics??

  • Somebody asked, so here are the Kingston Trio's hits; "Tom Dooley", #1 in 1958 "The Tijuana Jail", #12 in 1959 "M.T.A.", #15 in 1959 "A Worried Man", #20 in 1959 "El Matador", #32 in 1960 "Bad Man Blunder", #37 in 1960 "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?", #21 in 1962 "Greenback Dollar", #21 in 1963 "Reverend Mr. Black", #8 in 1963 "Desert Pete", #33 in 1963
  • That pic of her at 0:30 is quintessential. That proves she's just being herself.

  • The Kingston Trio?

Hmm...the only two songs I know by them are a cover of a showstopper and (of course) a cover of an odd campaign song. Were all their songs like that?

  • no offense to the trio but a little known singer

named gypsy sings it better btw he was the captain

  • This is how Mariah Carey got her name! Her mother liked it so much that she dicited to name her Mariah.

  • Why did this beautiful woman disfigure herself with implants???

  • What´s the connection with the song?

  • None. I was referring to the pictures. I do love this song, though.

  • Like I really love and adore Mariah Carey but i kind of agree with you! So beautiful and had to get implants!

  • very sweet i like it lol for the ollld pix wher did u get it ? anyway bravo

  • Has this song been in a movie?

  • "Paint Your Wagon," based off of the Broadway Musical of the same name (though the story was altered)

  • Whoops - videos. The song is from "Paint Your Wagon" and was rather old in the '60s when our group was into folk.

Looking back on those times, this video is an insult.

  • This movie and song was done even before mariah was born, i read one article that said Miss Patricia Carey was a fan of this movie thats why she gave mariah her name, so thats where her name came from..

  • My name is mariah...I was born before Mariah was popular...and I wasn't named after this :D lol...

  • mariah carey blows all other stars around!

  • thats not nice to talk about her sexual habits?

  • lol you got a dirty mind. i'm not talking about her sexual habits!

  • this song appeared in the movie "Paint your wagon" i may be wrong here but i seriously doubt that it was written about Mariah Carey :) although you did a nice job with the slide show

    thank you for posting it

  • hahaha obviously it was NOT written about Mariah but her mother named her after this song, she has said it many times.

  • I love this song. SO neat and a lil coincidental that she was named after a "song." :D SIng ya heart out Diva!

  • she was such a pretty little baby!!! and child and I think her childhood wasen't perfect getting teased and getting her dogs poisened!!! that story of her makes me cry too. so do her great songs. but anyways look at her now!!!! :)

    mariah4ever

  • Mariah Carey was such a beautiful child. You can tell that she was to become a Star! Love you Mariah...Jimmyratz

  • seriously I think her mom knew she was going to be a huge star mariah carey is her stage name so she has no middle name and she was named after this song I guess she was just destined to be an amazing singer.

    maariah4ever!!!!

  • I didn´t know they had done this song.

I was searching for Jim Ed Brown`s version!

  • I did´nt know they recorded this song! Have only heard it with Jim Ed Brown. His version is better, I think!

  • How neat! Barely one minute into this and you realize the Mariah here is the incomparable, very, very talented, Mariah Carey! And damned pretty, too!

  • love this.... mariah said this is actually the song from which her name is derived....
