  • what are you doing with the lids of each paint? throwing away? or after every event you close them up again?? thank you for every video!! you are the best I ever see. love you and your style!!

  • @ginachristoforou1 I leave the lids off the paints, but I keep them in a drawer at home in case I ever have a use for them :)

  • When you suggest using the same brushes over and over for speed etc, do you still wash these between kids??? For eg do you just keep the separate colours on brushes for one design, or do you continually use the same ones?

  • @gravenkisses32 I don't wash the brushes between kids. The paints have antibacterial properties, so germs won't get spread.

  • Wow should have watched the other video before I asked the first question about how you got noticed. But I really would love to know how you pick the designs for the kids since you don't use a book.

  • @MsIdahocgirl I usually just tell them the different designs I can do. This works well because if the line is really long I only tell them my super fast designs. Or, If I'm sick of painting a certain design, I make sure to leave it out of the list of choices.

  • Thanks for responding back! On the audio question I had, it just seemd that the older videos were a little harder to understand.

Keep doing you great work and I look forward to checking for new designs fromyou. You rock.

  • I truly love your videos. A suggestion is that the audio is a little hard to understand you..you sound like you are in a tunnel. It is just a little frustrating when I really want to understand a tip or say what and why you like a bush or paint. Keep up the great videos!

  • @toolpartiesbydana Strange. No one has ever mentioned the audio before and it sounds perfectly clear on my computer.

  • So I just started doing face painting, I have the tent, tall director chairs, table, table cloth, and kit all set up. How did you get noticed? Book events? Corporate events? How do you also pick the designs for the kids vs a book?

  • Lisa...I have been painting faces for about a year now..actually since last august...Blessedly with anything creative i learn by watching once or twice and i have it...your videos are a blessing for several reasons! thanks for sharing the talent!

  • What is the best chair setup? Right now I'm sitting at a square table, with two level chairs, and it's hard to find the right angle to paint. I'm trying to figure out something simple to carry and bring out to events.

  • @Earthvibration360 You can either have a high table and high directer's chair or a standard table and standard chair. With the high option, the child sits and you stand to paint them (this is nice because you can freely move around the child to get proper angles). With the low option, you sit while the children stand in front of you to be painted (for me, this option is easier on my back). NEVER have both you and the child sit. You can't reach the child and it will KILL your back.

  • @lisajoyyoung thank you so much! What great advice!

  • I like the idea about having a fast, in between, and more intricate version of designs, but do you ever get negetive feedback from customers, parents, or kids that they are seeing other kids at the same event or party who got a 'better' butterfly than them, etc??

  • @SlimKaci I've never had anyone mention it. Usually, I can tell whether an event is going to be busy or not and start with the appropriate design from the beginning. But, if I suddenly have a long line, and the little girl asks for a butterfly mask, I just say, "Sorry, the line is really long now, so I have to do small designs." Since it's not pay per face, and they're getting it for free, I've never had a parent complain.

  • thanks so much that would be awesome .. really hope you make a book about facepainting one day

  • hi Lisa Im a real begginer and was just wondering what colours you would consider absolutely essential to start off with? is it better to buy a pallette or individual ? thanks again :)

  • @1ctamy Hi! I would suggest a small pallette. I'll be opening up a face painting store within the next month or so, and I'll be putting together kits of what I think are essentials for beginners. :)

  • I was wondering what exact brushes/brands you recommend for a basic setup. I dont have a huge budget, but want to make sure I have all I need to do a great job. I noticed you said you like to have multiples for different colors, great tip. Thanks girl, you are just wonderful! (:))

  • So you spray the sponge after each kid? Is that spray face safe though? And where can one obtain it?

  • @emalinnea91 I don't really see any need for the spray, so I only use it on cruise ships where it's required. It's purpose is to be used on skin, so I'm assuming that it's safe for the face. The only thing it might hurt are the eyes, but since you're spraying the sponge, and not the face, I don't think that's a concern. I found the spray at CVS.

  • THANKS FOR ALL THIS GREAT INFO I AM STILL IN TH PROCESS OF BUYING MY KIT I AM SO UNSURE OF WHAT TO GET IS VERY ANNOYING GOING ON DIFFERENT WEBSITES TO TRY TO BUY THE PRODUCTS RATHER THAN HAVING NE GREAT WEBSITE FOR ALL IF ANY ONE CAN DROP ME A LINE ON SOME GOOD PRODUCTS THAT I WILL NEED I WIL APRECIATE IT!

  • I am enjoying your videos. Thanks for the time you put in to share with and inspire us. I do have a question, I am getting ready to do face painting at our church for raising funds for the youth. I will probably continue to do so when they need. So my question is, can you give me a list idea of what you think I would need to get started. I would like to have enough of everything to practice with and do future fund raisers. Thanks again. Keep up the awesome work.

  • @angelsandfaes Hi! I'm going to pm you as youtube doesn't allow for URLs in the comment section :)

  • Hello there. Your videos are great and very helpful. I'm an aspiring beginner and I'm asking around to see what brand of brush seems to be the most popular. Would you mind letting me know what you prefer to use?

    Thanks :D

  • Lisa- I enjoy watching all your videos! You mentioned where you got your directors chair and table from in the video, but I couldn't catch the name all the way. Can you please post a link or re-say where you go them from?

    Thanks!

  • Another question, what type of clothes do you wear to paint?

  • @caryandv If I'm going to a birthday party, I where jeans, a black shirt, and a black apron with my company name on it. If I'm going to a corporate event, I where black pants instead of the jeans.

  • Okay, Lisa, I've got another product-related question for you...I need to replace my black and white, and I need glitter. I only want to order from one website to save on shipping...SO...my choices are wolfe bros. black & white and mama clown white fairy dust glitter from silly farm, or black, white, and iridescent white glitter from diamond FX. The price winds up being identical because Diamond FX charges more for shipping. What do you think?

  • @karenhopeblacher I would order DFX from the facepaintforum shop. I can't post a link here, but I'll message it to you. They have free shipping for all orders over $25 and they're glitter is awesome (I like it more than the mama clown glitter).

  • @lisajoyyoung thank you again! You're the best! :-)

  • @lisajoyyoung thank you so much fot the tips! I picked up all the products you suggested, got a great deal and I'm LOVING them. Now I've got another question for you, though: how do you get your glitter to adhere so well? I'm using my fingertips and applying on a finished design, but I find that my (snaz) paints dry so quickly that by the time I apply glitter it's just falling off. Snaz runs like anything (I know you know), so I'm afraid to rewet it to make the glitter stick. Thoughts?

  • @karenhopeblacher I use Diamond FX and TAG (which also dries kinda fast), to make it adhere a little better, I will pause and put glitter on the base when it's still wet, then do my line work afterwards. For instance, if I do a rainbow butterfly, I will put sponge my color down first, then use my poofer bottle (or you could do it with your finger tips) and glitter up the base, then I go back & do my line work on top of it. It works like a charm! :) Hope it helps.

  • @shannonsimms thanks for the tip, Shannon! :-)

  • @karenhopeblacher You're welcome! :)

  • @karenhopeblacher I would suggest that you buy both the jar and the poof bottle, then you can decide which one you like better. The glitter's not very expensive and you'll end up using it all anyway. I always apply with my fingers because I like the control that it gives. Also, when you apply with your fingers the paint doesn't have to be wet for the glitter to stick. With a poof bottle, if the paint's not wet the glitter with just bounce right off the skin.

  • @karenhopeblacher Oh yeah, also, with the poof bottle the glitter gets EVERYWHERE. All over the clients face (even where there's nothing even painted), all over your station and paints, and all over the floor. I'm not a huge fan of the mess. I would never use a poof bottle if I'm working in a client's home because I wouldn't want to leave them with a messy, glittery floor. But, some people absolutely love the poof bottles, so I guess it's more of a personal preference kind of thing

  • @lisajoyyoung thank you so much for the detailed reply! Also, in case I havent' mentioned it before, thank you also for the FANTASTIC tutorials! I've already added several of your designs and techniques to my repitoire and it's upped my game SIGNIFICANTLY. It's amazing what a difference a few details can make! Simply put...you rock. <3

  • How do you sanitize your paints?

  • @tita1m You don't need to sanitize your paints, they're made with antibacterial properties built into them. If you're worried about spreading germs still, you can use a new sponge on each child and dip your brush in alcohol or vinegar in between children.

  • I am so excited to find your videos! This really helps me out since I am just starting. You said that you spray your sponges in between kids with hand sanitizing spray. could you tell me what kind that is? And , do you worry about a child's reaction when using that?

  • @cbaugh44 I'm glad the videos have been helpful for you! The sanitizing spray I use is an aerosol CVS spray. It's expensive though (and I don't really think it's completely necessary since the paints themselves have antibacterial properties), so I only use it at events when clients express concerns of sanitation. I don't know if it really even helps, but the spray gives the appearance of cleanliness.

  • @cbaugh44 sorry, I forgot to answer your second question :) I've never been worried about the children's reaction to the sanitizing spray because the spray is specifically made to be used on the skin, and there's never been any problem. But, if you're concerned that a child might react to it, you can always just use a solution of alcohol and water in a spray bottle instead. That would certainly be cheaper. I don't use it though because of the strong smell...

  • thank you Lisa! so helpful!!!! as always!

  • Thanks Again, what butterfly brush do you use. The ones I've purchase don't seem sturdy enough what hair to you get sable, nylon etc? Also will you continue with the fast face series. You have taught me so much:0)

  • @TheSaphrone I actually tossed my butterfly brush about a month ago (now I just used a 3/4 in flat brush to do the butterflies - like the one I did in the adult butterfly video). I'm going to make another one though, because the butterfly brush, you can edge the tips in a dark color and not have to worry about outlining... Just find the stiffest fan brush you can and cut it into a butterfly shape.

  • @TheSaphrone Oh yeah, I'm done with the fast face series, but I'll definitely still make videos of designs that are fast and easy to do. Also, when I do a video of a more detailed face, I'll always try to show a faster alternative at the end.

  • @mirandasjc1 Each event is different. All pay per hour events I do (including fairs), it's in the contract that I will be provided with shade/shelter. Pay per face events are different. Many times, you will have to bring your own tent, but sometimes they're provided. When doing pay per face events, it's always important to go over those kinds of details before you show up. Since I don't own a tent, I don't except jobs that won't provide shade.

  • My daughter laughs because I keep exclaiming, "She's so great!" Not only your talent but also because you are so helpful to a new face painter. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!

  • @sheilajmakeup I'm so glad that I've been able to help you! I have a Q & A Starting Your Face Painting Business video that I'll be uploading pretty soon as well, so keep your eye out for that one :)

  • great cant wait! You are so wonderful for putting together these great videos! Thanks again!

  • Love your videos, thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and talents. (and you're so beautiful!)

  • @cakedesigner59 Thank you so much, that's so nice of you to say :)

  • This q&A was great! Thanks so much for all the great advice! Cant wait to see the fast painting one. Oh, and also, any tips on advertising, getting business, etc? THANKS!!!

  • @rosajudith1 Yes! I actually have a Q & A video that I've already filmed regarding getting your business setup and moving! It talks all about how to begin your business and getting your name out there. I'm trying to space out my videos, so that one will probably be up in a week or two.

  • thanks a lot for your advices!

  • Another great video. I'm the beginner u were talking about : ) But wanted to know where I could get a butterfly brush. I need a quick butterfly cheekart. Thx

  • @imluvnshoes unfortunately, I don't know if anyone actually sells them, as far as I know, you have to make your own. I bought two different sized fan brushes and dipped them into hair gel. Once the hair gel dries and they're stiff, it's easy to cut them into butterfly shapes.

  • Some really good points.

  • Thanks hun!
