  • Is it correct that µSv/h is the modern unit for radiation, and that Rads/h is the old one? If so, how can you convert measurements from R/h to µSv/h?

  • @stefaan10111992 Do a Google search for "sievert to rad" It's a simple conversion. 1 μSv = 0.1 mrem or

    1 mSv = 100 mrem = 0.1 rem

  • Good ol' SRV @ 2:22

  • @Blackflre Correct! You have a good ear.

  • @mkrubsack gotta love it <3

  • lol You own many more Geiger counters than I do. Wow!

  • I have no one but you will have a collection, and then radioactive minerals, but I do not live in America for this and hard to find one of these meters of radiation.

  • I don't get what the deal is with the samples? Do they come with the Geiger counter? Also Isn't It not good to be around something that active?

  • @SavageCrnbread It's nice to have something to test. You get samples by prospecting, or sometimes via eBay. If stored carefully, there's no danger.

  • What's the cost of a good handheld geiger counter and where to get one? I'd like to have one at home.

  • @janadal86 Check eBay. Since the Japanese disaster, prices are sky high now.

  • Test mayonnaise and pepto bismol with your giger counter!!!!

  • thanks! interesting demo.

  • how did you get uranium?

  • Stevie Ray Vaughan :)

  • that red light is telling you to stay away from it or your gonna die i suggest you listen lol

    i read russian

  • is tha my geiger counter going crazy or is it my lifespan ticking down? It's both!

  • i have a leni pro model but it seems to have a dead battery but i do not now how to replace it could u help me?

  • @foxtrapper1972 Unlatch it, open it up, and replace the D cells.

  • @mkrubsack they take d cells? i thought the took a slightly radioactive battery that is hard to find

  • @foxtrapper1972 ur a fucking idiot!

  • This guy likes Geiger counters.

  • Когда я пошел в город Чернобыль, мне давали одного из них, и я был в состоянии держать это, армия была достаточно любезна, чтобы впустить меня.

  • damn i want one of those cd v-700's i got a 715 but its messed up now :( so i ordered the drsb-01

  • dude in my biology class i found 8 similar looking geiger counters!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ah I love a dose of radiation in the morning

  • Where can I obtain one of theise LENi pro geiger counters?

  • @ixlovexmayxmaple Check eBay for the Geoelectronics store.

  • @mkrubsack Thanks!

  • @snowleopard010 if the uranium was organic, meaning if you found natural uranium from a mine lets say the out put of radiation would be safe. its only really dangerous if it has been purified, but if its still natural its safe to handle freely and without to much worry.

  • woo man they put you arounds some heavy radiation. Better watch it you might grow a hand out of you belly button

  • This isn't a guitar pedal! WTF?!?! ;)

  • this can be used in GHOST HUNTING VERY COOL

  • what Geiger counter was that and how much did it cost and where can i get one?

  • @snowleopard010 The length of exposure was not long enough to cause any damage. Just carefully wash your hands afterwards, and everything should be OK.

  • are geiger counters ment to be disposed after one use or can they be used over and over again and if they are used more than once do they eventually absorb radiation from the radioactive compounds that they are exsposed to?

  • @BARONSCHWARZWALD They are meant to be used over and over. As long as the probe is not contaminated, it should have a vary long life. Generally they do not absorb radiation, unless the radiation level is very high for a long exposure, maybe that found in a uranium/plutonium processing plant.

  • i have the giger counter on the very left with no speaker and i want to put a speaker on it but how

  • @maxcater1 the left one i think is a 715 so you cant add audio, but the other CDV's like the 700 have a phone jack for a specialy made speeker that you can get on ebay

  • around how much do these run

  • really cool^^ i would like to buy one too :D

  • FOOTBALL!!!!!

  • Most people would prefer the "Ludlum" brand than some Russian ones!

  • NEEDS MOAR FALLOUT 3

    :D

  • okey I want to start collecting radioactive things ans geiger counters etc. so I need Lead containers... gloves... wut else? safety wise. Then I need my first Geiger counter whats a good one to start with? then I need Radioactive things... how do I get those?

  • The least expensive is to get a CDV-700 off eBay. No gloves are needed if you wash your hands thoroughly after handling a sample. No lead container needed, if you store samples in the garage, basement, etc. away from humans. Those can come afterwards. If you want a small geiger counter, look at eBay for some of the Russian made devices.

  • @yutaja umm...i think you can go to your local army/navy store and get a gas mask to be extra careful. just make sure you wash your hands and take a nice bath after handling it. as for radioactive material; get into a school for Nuclear Physicist.

    GL with that!

    Keep it clean.

  • Very Nice Video! I'm a radioactive collector, and I have a Terra-P Dosimeter and a CDV-7006b with the standard B & y "Pickle Probe". I wish I could get a "Pancake Probe" so I could measure Alpha particles, and a larger area of radiation! I would also like a to get a "Gamma Scout" Dosimeter, as it reads Alpha (has a mica window). I love your demonstration! And all the GM-Counters you have, 1 word: Beautiful!

  • @KarbineKyle um... where do you get radioactive things? Do u just go around with ur geiger counter see some radioactive stuff and collect it?

  • @yutaja I collect them, but the eBay is where I get most of my radioactive materials. Also, online chemical companies. I try to find things people sell that they don't know is radioactive. The strongest source I have measures ~1mSv/h. It's a WW2 Radium Helmet Glow Button. I do go to antique stores, flea markets, and look for stuff around the house, usually old smoke alarms. I want to use the Am-241 for neutron experiments with Beryllium. All of it is 100% legal. I'm very careful with it.

  • you might....want to not touch that lol

  • Whoa. I hope you took some Rad-Away for good measure.

  • @Calbrazil2007 thats lol tastic

  • @Calbrazil2007 and maybe some Rad-X before touching it

  • @Calbrazil2007 and when that geiger counter goes tick tickety get your as out of their

  • @sspecialairsservice lol i love three dog

  • @Calbrazil2007 Oh no you've been exposed to radiation and have grown an arm out of you stomach.....what do you do?

  • @ryancicocki Bullet to the brain.

  • @Calbrazil2007 Why sponsor the evil medical industry by buying Rad-Away while you can just as well drink a nice glass of fresh Brahmin milk?

  • @Calbrazil2007 its rad-x for good measure

  • 5/5! Very Nice! I find this subject extremely interesting! I collect many different kinds of radioactive materials. I don't have that many Geiger counters though! I only have 2! A CDV-700 6b, and a Terra-P Dosimeter. The strongest source I have is an old Radium Button that emits ~1 milliSievert/second. It's extremely radioactive! I keep my collection in a Lead-lined wooden box.

  • @KarbineKyle how thick is the lead?

  • I'm not even going to ask

  • I've been looking for one of those 44-9 pancake's to come on the market. I don't want to buy a brand new one.

  • Man, where you get that uraninium sample? Isn´t it little bit dangerous?

    Nvm, good clip.

  • Yes, it is dangerous...so one needs to take precautions. I store the material in lead containers, away from the living spaces. You can find radioactive minerals at gem & mineral shows, if your lucky maybe a local mine, and there is always eBay.

  • ho the hell is buying radioactive minerals on ebay!?

  • There are lots of radioactive minerals for sale on eBay.

  • so if you were to take that rock and hold it for 10 seconds and throw it at someone what would happen?

  • The rock would fly through the air, and if your aim was good, hit the target. The rock is not particularly dangerous in and by itself.

  • you could hold it with your bare hands?

  • Sure. Just wash your hands afterwards.

  • @mkrubsack

I don't see why you would have to hold your hands, what can happen if you don't?

  • I ordered a Leni Pro from George a month or so ago. Should be getting it anytime now. I have an Inspector Alert, and a PM1703M, both of which I like a lot. I am looking forward to the Leni.

I had the PM1703 on my dashboard today as I was on I-70 going to las Cruces. When I crossed White Sands Missile Test range, the PM spiked to 25 uR/h, from a background of 7.

If I got that on the x-way, who knows what's hot out there. Trinity was at least 50 miles north.

  • Did you ever get the Leni Pro? Let me know how you like it. One of these days I'd like to visit the Trinity site, and the Nevada Test range. One of these day... Never can find the time.

  • I e-mailed George, and he said he's still working on them, (he's only making a run of 10), so no not yet. You probably know the Trinity site is open to the public the first Saturday in April, and October. It's 10x background 64 years later. I just read the Nevada testing has made radioactive 1.6 trillion gallons of water in that areas aquifers, and there's nothing that can be done about it.

Yes, I'll let you know how I like the Leni.

  • who is george? is his last name bushnel?

  • @mkrubsack

I got the LENi, and I like it a lot. George did a wonderful job on it.

BTW, I checked the log on my PM1703, and it had actually went to 61 uR/h going across WSMR.

    That is 9x background here.

I am taking the LENi with me to the Trinity site in April.

  • which reminds me, my apprentice wants to get (scrape and collect) the radium paint off some old aircraft instruments. I explain countless times why he should not do it. no expertise, no 'place' to do it, no gear, no means to clean up. No counter! I explain that I will not do it. I lose more apprentices this way. Followed by electrocution. well that's funny but it's really not.

  • sometimes static electricity can build up on the first type shown, CDV-types with an all-plastic meter. It can build on the all plastic meter's face and make the needle act wierd. No problem though just use a dryer cloth to wipe it.

  • I need a basic geiger counter that detects background and all three types of radiation for a pretty cheap price help anyone?

  • I have been collecting geiger counters for a few years now. I have about 50. Bought them on Ebay.

  • are there alot of different types?

  • Yes, I have many Civil Defense geigers and survey meters. I have some old military units and many civilian units that people bought for prospecting in the 50s. I also have some modern units and some handheld units too. I enjoy them.

  • you and your ultra-modded 700 ;)

  • so, are you watching a game? I hear it...but can't put my finger on it.Anyway how much do giger counters cost ruffly? In USD preferably

  • Yes, a Green Bay Packers game. Now it's several years old. The LENi Pro's cost about $350 back when they were available. Equivalent now would be a Ludlum 3. You can get an old CDV-700 on eBay for under a $100.

  • haha nice.Anyway, thanks for the info.

  • hey man, thats not safe to be doing! that thing went off the charts, why you playing with radition? you infect yourself and others this way

  • 123 rads.

  • Comment removed

  • i need a geiger counter for project its hard to find one i can tell

  • local hardware rental stores will have them to test granite

  • ebay is good for a cold war counter, i got one for 12 dollars+ shipping

  • realy, damn thats good

  • wow how many geiger counters do people need...I'm trying to find a working CDV-700 and the only results that turn up are fishy ebay auctions.

  • Which one is the best? The leni pro or the DRSB-01? Cuz im gotta buy one in next week. :)

  • нет круто

  • c/m means counts per minute

  • Counts per minute.

Measures how many "hits" of ionizing radiation the tube measures per minute.

  • When you got your drsb 01 came did it come through ups or usps or fedex?

  • It came as registered mail via USPS. I had to sign for it. Came well packaged, in an international USPS plastic mailer "bag". Had lots of neat Russian stamps on it.

  • Did you customize that bad boy? What's the LEDs for?

  • How much did you pay for those and where can i purchase them?

  • Search on eBay for Geoelectronics. That's where I got my LENi Pro's at.

  • Is the CDV-715 able to measure background radiation? I was hoping to buy one, but no need to have it around if it only reports fatal doses! :p

  • The 715 was meant as a survey meter, to be used after an atomic attack. As far as I know, if you can get it to react, you're in an area you shouldn't be.

The 700 measures background, and you can occasionally find them on Ebay for $50-100, but make sure they have a working GM tube included, as some do not. If it's listed as "new old stock", you're probably ok.

  • Someone has a obsession with radioactive materials lol.

  • K0FF is that you?

  • Packer game in the background?

  • Right on! I'm a big Green Bay fan. Lived in Wisconsin for a number of years, and went to U of W at Milwaukee.

  • nice Leni I have one there great full house 700 thanks to geo

  • ah randon very very dangerous. you've probably exeeded your(mpd) maximum permissible dose by 60 times. i hope you were wearing a radiation suit because you've probable decreesed your life expectancy by 30%. anyway great video hope there wasn't any damage. and all the best

  • doom705, There is no such thing as a radiation suit. The purpose of a "radiation suit" is to prevent the wearer from being contaminated by contaminants in the environment. A real "radiation suit", presumably as you think of, would have to be lined with lead, and thus would be very heavy, and would not be entirely effective. And, just being around radiation isn't enough to decrease your life expectancy by THAT much

  • The half life of uranium is so insanely long that radon doesn't just pop up out of nowhere. I'm sure he's fine.

  • yeah your probly right. peace

  • There's something soo errie about that sound....

  • What about Radon build up in your container? Radon causes 21,000 lung cancer deaths per year in the United States alone. Maybe it's better to store it outside, unsealed?

  • 21,000 deaths? How would anyone know? From EPA: 'The Agency's updated calculation of a best estimate of annual lung cancer deaths from radon is about 21,000 (with an uncertainty range of 8,000 to 45,000)...." That's a bit sloppy, isn't it? With that kind of guessing, you could stretch the low end down to say, 1. You know, the guy who was happily digging a grave in the basement for his freshly-murdered wife when he realized he was sixty feet down and died from radon before he could get out.

  • Is the DRSB-88 sensible as the DRSB-01?

Because I wanted to buy one of them, but they are out of stok ... :-(

  • drsb-01 is much more sensitive than drsb-88 because drsb-88 has a very small geiger tube

  • Which brand would you recomend?

  • well drsb-01 is little more expensive but if you are low on budget then i would recommend drsb-88 otherwise drsb-01

  • Cool thanks!

  • I recommend the LENi. They are only available from George at GEOelectronics. George provides excellent support. Seach on eBay for LENi. They are upgraded with the latest electronics, hot-rodded, and still have the old 60's Civil Defense look. Get a LENi Pro aka LENi Omega, with the lights, sound card, etc.

  • Now that sounds like a proper Geiger Counter. Thanks for the info I think I wil look for a LENi.

  • TURN THE RADIO DOWN! What's the matter with you? Radiation poisoning?

  • AHAHAHAHA :) You made my day.

  • are geiger counters expensive?

  • well there are cheap ones but they often aren´t very sensible... other ones like the gammascout of which I wish I had one are rather expensive but they also detect alpha radiation. I use a cheap RKSB-104. i got it from ebay there are lots and lots of geiger counters and dosimeters

and "Geiger-Kits" to build your protable counter yourself exist too but I don´t know if they are cheaper

    hope I could help you

  • you mean from 100usd and up? (I was looking for an aproximate value, [something absolute, as "cheap" and "expensive" are rather... relative terms]...

    i should have asked:

How much does an ok counter cost?

  • yeah counters for about 100 to 150usd are generally perfect for home applications.

If you want to do more professional experiments ore simply dont want to calculate a lot(cause lots of counters only show a number after counting w ahile so you have to divide or multiplicate) the gammascout for about 350 dollars is pretty good caus it calculates the units you want itself immediately

  • awesome! I wish i had so much geiger counters

    :D

  • well i would rather spend my money in more uranium

  • Thanks for the video just bought a cd v-717 just like the 715 basically but has a 25 ft probe so you can put the probe outside a shelter and monitor inside. Just something else to learn about! Thanks Steve

  • If u bought da drsb-88 offa e bay all the way from russia how long does it take to arrive??

  • It took about 2 weeks.

  • It takes them that long to dig it out of the Chernobyl rubble and one day to fly it to the US. Uh, you did wipe it down, didn't you? :-)

  • im a noob... sorry but are there any of thers you can cary intoo a room and if there is anything in the room that is hot it starts the crackle sound?

  • well every geiger counter dies this lol

  • o shit i meant does this lol

  • where the heck did u get the radioactive stuff??!

  • All of the stuff he is using is unregulated. It contains such trace amounts it would be nearly impossible to cancer from unless you carry it around with you.

  • At one time, you could buy it on eBay. That's where I got most of it.

  • Hi, and the geiger tube, work like the pancake probe?

  • I did get the ENI from Davis Geosciences, but don't confuse it with the LENi Pro, which is a much better, improved, counter.

The LENI Pro came from Geoelectronics, in New London, MO. It's the only place that manufactures them. You start with an ENI counter, then soup it up!

Davis Geosciences is a completely different company in Texas.

  • Did you get that ENi from Davis Geosciences?
