why are people debating on weather There Will Be Blood, or No Country For Old Men is better? I love Both of these films. They are both incredible and both very deserving of the awards they got.
Why do people feel the need to compare this movie to No Country? The only things they have in common are their filming locations, obsessions with antagonism, odd endings, and year of release.
Don't let the Oscars tell you what to like, and similarly don't let them turn movie-going into a competition.
Not these days. Non-ending antagonist-loving movies are all over the place, and don't necessarily have enough in common to warrant comparison (The Dark Knight vs. Syriana). And a lot of movies are shot in desolate locations - especially westerns (No Country, but not arguably not TWBB).
Does anyone happen to know where Johnny got the name for this song? I ask because I was just reading Moby-Dick a while ago, and there is a passage in there about what it means to kill a whale and "eat him by his own light", which reminded me of this song. It might be a total coincidence, but I suspect Greenwood named it after that line. Anyone know for sure?
I noticed the same thing. I suspect this also, however, I haven't heard anything to back it up. honestly, though, its a fairly unique quote, so I doubt it was gathered from anywhere else besides this. Good title, though, huh?

the soundtrack was great, just not my favorite movie. it was kind of like watching, and your gonna hate me, an angry will ferrel starring in a desert remake of cast away. not to that extreme i know, but listen to daniel day lewis in twbb and tell me he doesn't sound like will ferrel. now that you competely despise me i'd like to add that, inspite of this critisicm, i respect daniel day lewis as an actor, and from what i've seen, a person. so take what you will on my seemingly mixed opinion.
I agree, though upon watching them I thought they were just as good as each other, No Country For Old Men doesn't hold up to repeated viewings like There Will Be Blood does.
come on, it that really necessary. They are completely different kinds of movies and I was far more obsessed and gripped by No Country for Old Men than there will be blood, but I would never say that No Country was better.
I, like all of you who have posted here, am enough of a dork that anything Johnny Greenwood does I know I will love and will seek out and spend energy upon, even if it is a YouTube message board.
I did think "Blood" was a bit self important too, but I still love it.

Jonny Greenwood is some type of mad genius. I had no idea he scored the music for this film until about 10 minutes ago.

the music kind of belongs in Bioshock right? sort of twisted in a freaky way, a swirl into madness. I like Bioshock is what I'm trying to say

Honestly, I think this movie reminds me more of Amadeus than of No Country for Old Men, but that's just personal intuition.
