In responce to manofgod Allen played freebird mostly on a original 1958 Gibson Explorer Korina body. He wrote Freebird on a Firebird III he had modified. Gary used a 1962 SG. Allen hardly ever played a Les Paul. The true Allen Collins sound was his Explorer. Sorry to disappoint you. He was a very dear friend of mine and I have played both of those guitars. Ricky Medlock plays his Explorer on stage now with Skynyrd. The Firebird he wrote Freebird on belongs to his daughter Amy. Raymond Saleeba
