I'm sorry but Resident Evil stopped being like a survival horror game when Resident Evil 4 came out. I'll vote for Resident Evil to be the best but Silent Hill is much more scary.

Resident evil is more geared towards science fiction and silent hill is very psychological based. Both really good series but as far as survival horror goes, silent hill takes it. No contest.

Resident Evil isn't anywhere near as scary as Silent Hill. It's way too action-ish to be that scary, and your characters are like combat specialists so there's never any feeling that your actually gonna get scared. Silent Hill on the other hand is way more atmospheric and creepy, also the fact that you control a character who isn't really a combat-oriented type of person gives the game that feel of true survival horror.
imma gonna have to say RE i never really liked silent hill, because for me, after awhile, you could predict what was gonna happen like your walking down the road first time OMG ITS A WEIRD THINGY AHHH!! second time: ooh here it comes. get the gun. :P
Both great games. Silent Hill have a hard puzzle system and it´s more psychologic horror. Resident Evil (the old ones) is more everything, you got action, you got puzzle, terror, a great story, and a great replay.
In my personal opinion: Resident Evil wins this one! But SH is great too.
Resident Evil is way better (first three parts 4 and 5 suck ass) than Silent Hill because SH is a copy of RE series with a really retarded weird fucked up story.

I'm not too into horror-survival games, but I will say that Silent Hill is one of the most intriguing games I've ever played. It seems like they put more artistic effort into those kinds of games then a lot of others.
Resident Evil of course.4&5 may not be scary anymore but they are actually some of the best games with epic graphics and story.Also most of RE games are horror.Only 4 and 5 made the difference.Look how many RE games exist:

@FlameGyu In my opinion Resident Evil's story became unintresting after Resident Evil 3. Whiel 4's gameplay was great, the story and Leon's transformation into a super agent, and Chris becoming a steroid addict, and wesker becoming a super duper hero really turned me off the series. Resident Evil 3.5 whould've been a good way to wrap up the series.

Resident Evil isn't anywhere near as scary as Silent Hill. It's way too action-ish to be that scary, and your characters are like combat specialists so there's never any feeling that your actually gonna get scared. Silent Hill on the other hand is way more atmospheric and creepy, also the fact that you control a character who isn't really a combat-oriented type of person gives the game that feel of true survival horror.

Both great games. Silent Hill have a hard puzzle system and it´s more psychologic horror. Resident Evil (the old ones) is more everything, you got action, you got puzzle, terror, a great story, and a great replay.
In my personal opinion: Resident Evil wins this one! But SH is great too.

How is Silent Hill a copy of RE? If you're talking about the gameplay, that WAS survival horror back then. That's like saying [shooting game 1] copied off of [shooting game 2] because you can aim in both of them. And it's only retarded if you can't understand it. They did a horrible job talking about it in this video. I'm not saying either one is better- it's just kinda pointless to compare them.

I just think the SH story is way too retarded and instead of mysterious which the developers aimed for it came out very stupid and weird. While RE is way more realistic and down-to-Earth also much more fun to play (speaking about first 3 parts).

RE vs SH winner? Of course Silent fucking Hill. Why folks? imagine you're in resident evil 5. You got zombies all around you in a normal enviroment. They all look the same and they all make roarring sounds. What's SCARY in this? The atmosphere is the answer which is a way more creepy and sick in Silent hill. Imagine you're in silent hill a haunted place full of ugly disturbing creatures making horrific and suffering noises. SH: you feel helpless, and it's got such a sick atmosphere.

I love playing the Resident Evil Games, it was my childhood. But it just doesn't compare to the CLASSIC Silent Hill Games. The original SH is better in most ways and I can back up my claim without making an appeal to popularity or authority, i.e. w/o making illogical claims like you did.

I'm not too into horror-survival games, but I will say that Silent Hill is one of the most intriguing games I've ever played. It seems like they put more artistic effort into those kinds of games then a lot of others.

Resident Evil of course.4&5 may not be scary anymore but they are actually some of the best games with epic graphics and story.Also most of RE games are horror.Only 4 and 5 made the difference.Look how many RE games exist:
Resident Evils:1,2,3,Code Veronica,Dead Aim,Survivor,Darkside.
We have already got 7 Resident Evil Horror games.And they are coming out in HD as well.Most of them at least.And I may forgot some RE games.Believe me RE series are MILLIONS of games.

@Badfish93 Not a chance!It actually shows the end of everything.And the historic line is great.After Lost In Nightmares Jill sacrifices herself to save Chris and jumps along with Wesker.He recovers her and takes her with his side.And the history with Wesker is something new to the series since he was bad but not that much in the older Resident Evil series.
P.S:Since you are saying that the story of RE5 is horrible do you mind explaining what is horrible to you?

@FlameGyu In my opinion Resident Evil's story became unintresting after Resident Evil 3. Whiel 4's gameplay was great, the story and Leon's transformation into a super agent, and Chris becoming a steroid addict, and wesker becoming a super duper hero really turned me off the series. Resident Evil 3.5 whould've been a good way to wrap up the series.
