  • fritzie the puppet at 3:31

  • joel is amazing! the MC is a very dark and a llittle scary charcter, you dont quite know if he is mocking hitler or if he is agreeing with the nazi-party... but joel brings such charm and fun to the charater you cant do anything else but love him. AND he spoke the german accent so perfect Im still a bit in chock everytime I hear him speak in his real accent

  • his laugh makes me laugh so much!!!

  • Geez, is this from '67?!

  • how come willkommen is always the number they perform at the tony's?

  • Great video of Joel Grey. Would love to see him in Anything Goes.

  • Joel Grey, reprises his film performance with slight alterations. On the DVD version he explains the character was played as a " third " rate performer which he hated but the Director loved. Yes the character is wicked, louche and plays the tease but that is the brilliance of it. Timing and emphasis are critical and they provide the impact of slapstick dance and vocals = a memorable performance.

  • 3:29 :D

  • every time i watch this i always forget how serious cabaret actually is haha

  • There really are only 2 correct ways to play the emcee. The Joel Grey and Alan Cumming. Get to far from that and its awful.

It's amazing how much this production grew from the original to the 98' revival, amazing <3

  • Something about the Emcee character seems magical. He draws you into the performance.

  • whoa, this is intense

MC is one of the roles i'd like to play b4 i die

  • wow this is out of the ark.. all the movement he does.... does it lessen his "impact" on stage? I know this is a film of a theatrical performance and not a film.. but it gives me pause for thought

  • that was amazing he is amazing the original mc, brilliant!

  • Joel Grey is fantastic, however this is perhaps the worst example of his talents. Check out his other performances. He is much better than this video shows.

  • @AxeNewkill Really? Is he this good that his video is bad? I just love the moment he gets apparently arroused and goes "Woo! WHoo!" and wanders like Charlie Chaplin.

  • Aww, Joel Grey's adorable!

  • Eddie Cantor certainly knew superb talent when he saw it!

  • what year was this?

  • Definitely prefer Grey's Emcee to Cumming's.

  • i love him!

  • By the time that movie and revival came around, his German accent had gotten better. Like many German people pronounce A's as E's. He says "happy" in this version, but "heppy" in the movie. Just the little things. Anyways, great performance. A talented, talented man.

  • wow this is major!! thanks so much for posting!!!!!!

    go joel grey! ;-)

  • Joel Grey is fantasmic........orgasmic! He is fabulous!

  • I'm a big Charlie Chaplin fan and watching this video Joel Grey's movements have the feel of something Charlie Chaplin would do. He draws you into the performance, very good. Thanks for posting.

  • @katlady5000 it's called slapstick.

  • it is rare, thanks for share!!Joel Grey was Amazing.....I like this Performance!!

  • w.o.w... THIS IS AM EXTREMELY RARE VIDEO...THNKS!!!!!

  • Ahh so he had two diffrent interpretations of the way he played the character on stage and screen. But i prefer his movie singing than the stage but stage is always going to be different. Still Amazing, 5 Stars All Day :)
