Watch him perform with the Boston Pops Symphony Orchestra with John Williams.

Before he left Cuba with the help of Dizzy, he was forced to play NOTHING but classical music. You can understand why he preferred jazz after leaving.

This is truly a treat. Though if I can say sure Arturo looked like he was pwning Dizzy, but 1) They were playing hispanic like jazz, which is Arturo's strength, as opposed to Dizzy, who has a different style. 2) I don't think Dizzy wanted to showoff. He knows he's good, he doesn't need to show anyone he can do it. Still, I love Mr. Sandoval for the great player that he is and his good sense of clumsy humor. Also, my name is Arturo so yeah :D

Two great trumpet masters indeed. I played with Dizzy in the late 70s in Hawaii. Dizzy recorded one of my compositions called VIRTUE with Mongo Santamaria and Toots Thielman.

Arturo Sandoval is a genius on the trumpet. He's playing amazing trumpet on my new all-star jazz CD called ANGEL FACE, along with trumpet masters Wallace Roney and Shunzo Ohno.
