Early in the marraige they did use birth control, and Michelle had a miscarriage. When they prayed for understanding, they felt God calling them to trust His judgment that he would never give them more children than they could handle. All through their story they have wonderful examples of how listening to God in their lives has been the right thing to do.

Regardless of how many kids they have or their religious beliefs, Michelle (the mom) is always so kind and always so positive. I mean look at the nice things she said about the tour guide. Its nice to see someone put positive spin on things. I certainly cant, so I appreciate that in her Im amazed that even in adverse times she can do it. Once she mentioned she hadnt slept very much in a week b/c Jordyn was sick. And her response was, well I can just sleep later, I can always sleep later, lol.

You're arguing population differences between countries. That is irrelevant. We will be facing a population crisis by the year 2050, so you'll have to debate that with the scientists. If you watch other episodes you'll see that both Jim Bob and Michelle have real estate licenses and own lots of properties. One of them is an old chicken factory that they converted into 20 rental units. Also, they own property that contains a cell phone tower with four renters, so that is where their income comes from. In addition, they buy used clothes and shoes, make their own soaps, heat with wood, and do other money saving things. They built that house, and have no debt. Pretty amazing!

I think that has to do with them being Baptist. The Baptist around here don't dance and you can get into serious trouble with your church if you are caught dancing. I don't understand why though. It says in the bible you should sing and dance with joy.

I wonder if it's possible to keep that many kids in your thoughts. I'd think that the parents must play favorites like in a classroom. It just seems wrong that they're so conservative yet are willing to exploit their family. When ever the mom smiles it feels so fake and if it's real, either way it makes my skin crawl. They can live however they want, but jeez it's just so culty

Why is everyone freaking out about the pill? If they're a happy, capable family, then why does it matter? This couple is providing food, clothing, shelter and love for all 18 of their children. Isn't that all that really matters? If YOU want to use birth control, then do it. They obviously didn't! Get over it. :)

ok i have heard of having 2 - 4 kids but having 18 kids is a little rediculas because anybody in they right mind would put a stop to it .i just want go up to them and say what the hell is wrong with you people? have ever heard of birth control .maby stop trying to fit in and get a clue

Having 18 kids really isn't that bad. I mean she and her husband have every right to. They can obviously afford it.
It's not like she's octo-mom. Doesn't seem like the kids are abused. The parents are married and together.

Early in the marraige they did use birth control, and Michelle had a miscarriage. When they prayed for understanding, they felt God calling them to trust His judgment that he would never give them more children than they could handle. All through their story they have wonderful examples of how listening to God in their lives has been the right thing to do.

birth control doesn't kill babies. nor does it kill fetuses or zygotes. it prevents pregnancy. if they became pregant whilst on birth control, it's because they either weren't taking it religiously (for lack of a better word) or Michelle was on antibiotics and didn't use back-up contraception.

I really like this show and I think the family is great. But I'm wondering why all the girls always wear skirts. You never see them in pants.

i dont know their religion but im pentecostal and we dont wear pants either. its because the bible says not to wear anything that pertainth to a man. and pants were originally made for men. and we believe skirts can be more modest because it is easier to hide the shape of the body and it steers from attracting too much attention. honestly though i know like maybe 2 people who actually take it to that extreme. my skirts are always about to my knees. :)

Regardless of how many kids they have or their religious beliefs, Michelle (the mom) is always so kind and always so positive. I mean look at the nice things she said about the tour guide. Its nice to see someone put positive spin on things. I certainly cant, so I appreciate that in her Im amazed that even in adverse times she can do it. Once she mentioned she hadnt slept very much in a week b/c Jordyn was sick. And her response was, well I can just sleep later, I can always sleep later, lol.

I'm glad she doesn't have time to sleep. Maybe that will make her think twice about having another kid, overpopulating the planet, and using almost ten times the resources of an average family. Serves her right for only thinking about herself and giving the finger to the rest of society.

Compared to 609 ppl / sq mi for Germany, 1,288 ppl / sq mile for S. Korea and over 42,000 ppl / sq mile for Monaco. I'm afraid the politically correct message you've fallen for doesn't jibe with the facts. If you think that having that many kids is wrong then don't do it. But stop hating on them.

You're arguing population differences between countries. That is irrelevant. We will be facing a population crisis by the year 2050, so you'll have to debate that with the scientists. If you are speaking in terms of countries; the US uses more resources than any other country in the world and having 20 kids only adds to that problem. When their is more of a global food and water shortage, bible bangers like this will be to blame.

If you watch other episodes you'll see that both Jim Bob and Michelle have real estate licenses and own lots of properties. One of them is an old chicken factory that they converted into 20 rental units. Also, they own property that contains a cell phone tower with four renters, so that is where their income comes from. In addition, they buy used clothes and shoes, make their own soaps, heat with wood, and do other money saving things. They built that house, and have no debt. Pretty amazing!

See my comment above. They are completely debt free and built their house. Pretty amazing. Wikipedia the series, if you hear their "story" its actually quite interesting as they first had Josh, then Michelle went on birth control, while on BC she got pregnant and had a miscarriage. b/c they are religious they had so much sorrow and guilt over the loss of that child that they decided to leave it in "gods hands" as to how many children they have (just stating the facts...not sayin I agree, lol)

No, God decided. She just as well could have had less because of something "medical" but that's not the case. Notice too how all of the children so far apparently are perfectly healthy.
