If you watch the one section where Phil grabs the top of his head you can tell they were hitting their peak right about that time. The intensity of a Genesis show right after Peter leaving and through late 1977 was something very few had the pleasure of seeing. I saw at least 8 shows in this time frame nothing and I mean nothing will come close to ever matching the power of a Genesis show.
Seconds Out is one of my fave Genesis albums and believe me I have many....Just wish I could find 'suppers ready' on here...I'm not that computer savvy to upload myself!!! but thanks for up loading 'musical box' nevertheless!!
Genesis Six Hours LIve 1972-1980 2DVD set, Genesis The Lamb Live at the Shrine 1975 3-disc 2CD/DVD set, Genesis Live in Montreal 1974 2CD set, Genesis Live in Zurich 1977 2CD set available at Tommygun Video, please see our Youtube channel for link, video/audio clips, more details
@Burn121212 Oh but you are mistaken! Phil never really wanted the job. He evolved into the singer. He did not try to copy Peter Gabriel. Musically there is no comparison, Phil sounded so much better, not to take anything away from Mr. Gabriel.
elbay - you refer to The Who "See Me" right? Both of these are in the same .00005% of how build drama, excitement.... move people with chord progressions that - well you dont have to be Di Meola, Back... etc to write
This is pure SECONDS OUT. This is when i started following Geneis. Never knew PGabriel but have learned much about him in various Genesis threads here. I think - well there is a cult following for that man
Yeah....this is pure "seconds out". I caught them at MadisonSquareGarden in 77. They were moving up in venue size.A year earlier i saw them at the Beacon Theater in N.Y. which is half the size of M.S.G. I'm sure Rutherford's "your own special way" had a little something to do with boosted ticket sales. Sometimes it takes a single to raise eyebrows.Mine were raised since "Foxtrot".
This is the Seconds out version Paris 1977, dubbed over Dallas 1977 film. No question about it. This film with the real soundtrack is also on youtube. Easy to tell the difference. Both are the best, but you can tell they are different.
@SilentWingsOfFreedom At the very least, "Seconds Out" is the best live album not heard by enough people. Btw, the quartet era is my favorite era of Genesis albums. :)
@bildo1977 Yeah, too bad it didn't last long enough (2 studio albums + 1 live album). Who knows what direction the band would have went in had Hackett not struck out on his own?
@elbay2 Is it me or does the rest of the song kind of... plod a bit? Has a bit of a slow pace compared to most of the other Gabriel-era songs - the ending, of course, is SWEEET! :)
@SPeacock I know what you mean; the pace is definitely slower and PERHAPS the overall song is a bit long.. However the drum part is particularly interesting to me; Collins' hi-hat work adds interest to the whole thing and Hackett's electric guitar part is nice!..
Agree, but in the Gabriel era, almosts 100% of the songs were written by gabriel, so the perfomance whas diferent, more energy in the shows, you can see the difference of era´s of both singers...regards!..
I think that I need to corect your facts...Peter Gabriel did not write "almost 100%" of the songs when he was with the band. He wrote a lot of the lyrics, Suppers Ready, The Musical Box for example, but musically it was a band effort. Tony Banks was the musical force in the old days.
Well, in n interview to phil collins, he saied en that era, till the lamb lies down, peter was the 80% of the creative motor, musically and in lyrics, the rest the band close the Job; remember that the two co founders members of genesis was tony and peter, the first peroid of creative songs, was made of peters ideas, and tony concrete. After peter left the group, tony take the place of the principal songwritting in the band.
the band wrote all the music for the lamb.gabriel wrote the story-lyrics.he got writters block on side 4 and banks helped him complete it.this a fact.
Excellent!!..seconds out is one of the best live perfomance, thanks por post it, but for my opinion, peter grabriel perform better the old period songs than phill..what you think?
no mate i mean the same one as this I have posted too :O)) it was only a joke anyway chill yer pants or i will come over there and give you a big fat kiss on the bottom!!
prob the best live record i ever heard, if i cud pick 1 genesis albumn to live with it wud b seconds out.. i wud love to c some1post suppers ready live.

@guijam94 I was talking about Musical Box when talking about the tempo change, but both songs have interesting chord progressions to my ears!.
Sorry for not responding any sooner as I never seem to have gotten an e-mail for your comment.
