I am a programmer. I watched the H1b's take over the job market in Dallas in rwhe 1990's. There was a shortage of qualified programmers in the 90's, but it was not that short. What destroyed the job market was the Family Leave Law and political correctness that mandated an equal number of people of all races and genders in the IT jobs. Friends there simply were not that many! Only one female was in my graduating class. Lots of females took the courses. What happened to them?

H-1B visas are granted to non-immigrant specialty workers with strict requirements. We're not talking about Mexicans hopping the fence and taking our jerbs; we're talking about a Fargo, ND company trying to hire a specific person with a particular specialization, and yet is required to advertise in the local paper and work around quotas. If they're willing to sponsor them, even going to the extent of hiring lawyers to help them do it, I imagine that they're not hiring strawberry pickers.

The Congress sets the MAXIMUM number of visas that can be issued -- there is NO minimum number that MUST be issued. Visas are issued based on advice from the administration's Department of Labor. While millions of Americans are un/under employed and hundreds of thousands more are losing their jobs each month, Obama is handing out about 125,000 work visas every damn month! Got jobs?

@ninuxy Congress passes laws, then the executive branch writes the regulations implementing the legislation, then the new regs are reported and there is a "comment period" before the regs go into effect. After that, the executive branch is responsible for enforcing the new regulations. That is how it works. BTW, my number of approx 125K work authorized visas per month is accurate. This includes green cards, L-1, H1-b, H2-b etc & State hands out about 320K J-1 student work visas yearly.

L-1 is for company's own international "employee" coming over temporarily to other locations and moving back in the short term. H1-b is for candidates with highly specialized talent which their contributions will effectively creates jobs here.
J-1 is just an exchange program, and H2-b is for seasonal laborers mostly. And if an individual gets on the Green Card process, it means he has demonstrated to the officials that his/her contribution will benefit the country while advancing the job market and ultimately paying taxes into the system. That's actually a good thing.
But that's not an issue. The problem is when the process is skewed by shady characters like the fella in the video. You follow? I guess not.
As someone who has been through this process, please keep in mind that these steps are dictated by the DOL ! Companies are only following the law so if anything, blame the law for being so naively blind. It would be beneficial for all if we there was a skill based migration programme like Canada's and you wouldn't be stepping over a domestic worker just for immigration....unfortunately currently thats the way it rolls...

I remember reading a WSJ article that some US corporations partner with foreign universities (especially, India) in order to train foreign students on custom software that was not made available to students in USA universities. That way, they could honestly say that no one in the USA was trained on the software!
At the House Field Hearings in Laredo, TX, I learned that some USA corporations RECRUIT exclusively in Mexico, not in the USA.

The new method only counts those getting benefits. If using the method that was used pre 1991 we would arive at a figure that is likely over 20% which is very close to great depression levels.

I'm not sure how the actual percentages could be tabulated at this point, if one were to include all unemployed people, whether or not they were receiving benefits. Another consideration should be those persons who are underemployed, i.e., skilled/educated workers who had taken menial jobs out of desperation.

You should know that _before_ doing this fake ad (as part of the green card process), those workers _are_ already here, in the USA, and they _are_ working and doing their jobs. And you know why? Because they _passed_ real job interviews and USA employers found them _better_ than USA citizens in doing their jobs.

But they've driven the wages down, and flooded the market with that skill. We hired 2 of these H1Bs for less than 20k each. And neither of them have ever done much big, and it took them years just to get up to an average performance level. Still don't speak very good English.

I am a programmer. I watched the H1b's take over the job market in Dallas in rwhe 1990's. There was a shortage of qualified programmers in the 90's, but it was not that short. What destroyed the job market was the Family Leave Law and political correctness that mandated an equal number of people of all races and genders in the IT jobs. Friends there simply were not that many! Only one female was in my graduating class. Lots of females took the courses. What happened to them?

H-1B visas are granted to non-immigrant specialty workers with strict requirements. We're not talking about Mexicans hopping the fence and taking our jerbs; we're talking about a Fargo, ND company trying to hire a specific person with a particular specialization, and yet is required to advertise in the local paper and work around quotas. If they're willing to sponsor them, even going to the extent of hiring lawyers to help them do it, I imagine that they're not hiring strawberry pickers.

There's nothing constitutional about establishing and maintaining programs that allow workers from other countries to come here and take our jobs. The Congress sets the MAXIMUM number of visas that can be issued -- there is NO minimum number that MUST be issued. Visas are issued based on advice from the administration's Department of Labor. While millions of Americans are un/under employed and hundreds of thousands more are losing their jobs each month, Obama is handing out about 125,000 work visas every damn month! Got jobs?

@ninuxy Congress passes laws, then the executive branch writes the regulations implementing the legislation, then the new regs are reported and there is a "comment period" before the regs go into effect. After that, the executive branch is responsible for enforcing the new regulations. That is how it works. BTW, my number of approx 125K work authorized visas per month is accurate. This includes green cards, L-1, H1-b, H2-b etc & State hands out about 320K J-1 student work visas yearly.

J-1 is just an exchange program, and H2-b is for seasonal laborers mostly. And if an individual gets on the Green Card process, it means he has demonstrated to the officials that his/her contribution will benefit the country while advancing the job market and ultimately paying taxes into the system. That's actually a good thing.

As someone who has been through this process, please keep in mind that these steps are dictated by the DOL ! Companies are only following the law so if anything, blame the law for being so naively blind. It would be beneficial for all if we there was a skill based migration programme like Canada's and you wouldn't be stepping over a domestic worker just for immigration....unfortunately currently thats the way it rolls...

That way, they could honestly say that no one in the USA was trained on the software!

The new method only counts those getting benefits. If using the method that was used pre 1991 we would arive at a figure that is likely over 20% which is very close to great depression levels.

Another consideration should be those persons who are underemployed, i.e., skilled/educated workers who had taken menial jobs out of desperation.

Because they _passed_ real job interviews and USA employers found them _better_ than USA citizens in doing their jobs.

But they've driven the wages down, and flooded the market with that skill. We hired 2 of these H1Bs for less than 20k each. And neither of them have ever done much big, and it took them years just to get up to an average performance level. Still don't speak very good English.

Well we have a pretty similiar system to yours but in adition we have point system which means only advertisement (wether its fake or not) cannot get the person a WORkpermit. A person must have certain qualfications, work expericence, fluency in english to score enough points for a workpermit.
