  • I agree. you don't use the 24 frets much at all. Just a littleeeeeee. I love playing Joe's style. I am a christian and I love playing this kind of stuff in praise and worship. they didn't know what to think of me at first. The old people thought ugh!! but now they are dancing. I wore them downnnn, LOL... Eddie Knox

  • legend.

  • I must say , he is great but he focusses a lot !!!! interpertations are important

  • i could never ever do that even if i practiced forever and never ate and never drank anything lol

  • thanks

  • He is amazing. The only instrument I know scales on is piano, however. On guitar I hear it, rather than know it. But his playing is still AMAZING. Rock solid Joe.

  • joe tought kirk hammet, steve vai and more

  • I think Joe Satriani is one of the best. 5 stars for this video

PLEASE go to my favs and click on SUBURBAN GUY ROCKIN OUT

he doesnt read music, really feels what he plays and improvises his songs as he goes along. the other 2 favs are him also ARIEL (awesome shredding) and ARIEL SIMANTOV (awesome sweeping) pls view comment and rate them as we think he deserves recognition .thanks everyone!

  • I don't think anyone living knows more about music.

  • I agree.. the unfortunate part is that his art is based on his technicality, he's wired backwards. He has yet to move me the way a guitarist like John Frusciante can - and with far simpler methods, mind you..

He knows that guitar like the back of his hand, but , IMO, doesnt use it to it's full potential. Music is supposed to move us, not just impress us. To me, what he does, is the equivalent of trying to scientifically engineer love.

That being said, thanks for the lesson, Joe xD

  • @arex82 quite possibly the best youtube comment i've ever read. you're a smart man. although, i will say this.. some like the soft, simple, and slow... Others like the technical, rampent, crazy shit, but to each they're own.

  • @arex82 john frusciante is god o.o

  • @arex82 you sound like an open minded person so listen to Satriani - Strange Beautiful Music :) This guy is more than just technique. It just occurs while he's playing because he has the level of technique. Listen to Strange Beautiful Music and you might change your mind. Frusciante is another beast :) take care!

  • @arex82 frusciante is a good song writer but his technical skills is not near Satriani's

  • @arex82 oh totally disagree that his art is based on his technicality. uh-uh. That was the case I wouldnt like him so much. I have Never heard such MELODY mind blowing beautiful melody coming from such a techinical player. THAT is one thing about him that grabs me so tightly. 'Always with Me Always With You" and "Flying in Blue Dream" so gorgeous!!!! Joe "moves" me way far beyond any just impressionistic techinical quality. He stirs my soul with his gorgeous melodies.

  • @clipophile

exept maybe clapton, clapton is like the lion of the jungle

  • sounds like pacman

  • tilin tilin

  • I went to his concert in new mexico, that's why i love him!

  • cool thanks for the vid!

  • good video but bad quality

  • why doesnt he have twenty four frets/

  • cos he dont use it...if he wants to get to 24 frets..just bend it..i got a js1000 myself and a gibson sg..played an ibanez with 24 frets many times..you dont use it that much..and he feels the same way

  • wouldnt your frets be a bit bigger though

  • no...that would fuck up the intonation..?

  • @andr4681 he actually did release a js with 24 frets and enjoys hitting that high g apparently. I am more of a 22 fret person guy myself as well

  • @andr4681

he does use 24th these days. he even talked about that in some videos

  • quality is shocking but good

  • "im not really warmed up right now"

    oh the modest man haha

he could shred me without warming up and i like to think im a pretty good guitarist

  • lookin at joe makes you feel miserable (well not really miserable:P he makes me happy but in the way of how good you are:P) i know the feeling:P

  • the modest man... nicely put

it's that what makes a man more appreciated

  • the editing on this blows

  • thanx

  • he taught Kirk Hammett guitar and im pretty sure he taught at Berkley.

  • he taught in berkley not berklee the college of music

  • ahh

  • Nope. He was offered attendance at Berkley college of music in Boston, but he ACTUALLY taught guitar in Berkley, California. Fun Facts, KIDS!

  • ugh yah he did give them lessons

  • did he make a DVD of these lessons?

  • man if i knew who u were id slap the shit out of you. You dont know shit

  • Joe taught Eddie van halen, steve vai and Kirk Hammet

  • No he didn't. Why do you talk as if it's fact when there is no truth to it. Joe DID NOT GIVE ED LESSONS. NEVER.

  • yes he did

  • Yeah but....no he DIDN'T.

Ed never took guitar lessons. Look it up fool.

  • yah he did

  • Any proof of this?

  • lol mybad i missread the argument lol

  • @hahn15435

eddie van halen? no, but john petrucci, yes

  • Didn't Joe give Eddie Van Halen lessons as well?

  • no one gave eddie lessons, except showing him barre chords, so he says.

  • I heard he gave Eddie lessons. Not really like a "starting guitar" lesson, but I heard Joe gave Eddie a few pointers. Of course I could be wrong. And I wouldn't be surprised.

  • nah he gave ur mom lessons haha jk dont get p.o.

  • I wish he gave my mom lessons, so she could pass them on to me. But, alas, she does not play guitar.

  • u NEVER know!!! hehe XD!!

  • can anyone tell me what guitar that is?

I played one at Guitar Center but I was too lazy to check the name :P

  • IBANEZ JS1000

  • nice fucking hat

  • 2:54 haha!

Most players in the world would struggle to play some of the stuff joe just played. and yet, joe does it without even warming up! :p

    legend.

  • MERCI JOE!!!**********

  • Joe also taught Kirk Hammet from Metallica.

  • Between my friends we call him Baldemort, but hes always Satch for me!

  • =o i can't stretch like that @_@ ZOMG i'm gonna practice this xDDD

  • joe reminds me of stevo from jackasss

  • No way dude, he's Voldemort.

  • because his a guitar wizard?

  • I know! People, hes not Jesus Christ. Hes Joe Satriani. Big difference. He just a really good guitarist. I enjoy watching some of these guitar prodigies on here on you tube. Satch is great but I dont like his style.

  • There is no such thing as jesus. there is such thing as joe

  • @DragonFarceRock yes, he's magic

  • Damn, don't you people have any other comments about video quality and who teaches who...

Just look at this video and learn.

Just be sure not to copy his style, only his technique so you can develop your own creativity.

Nuno bettencourt said it best in his instructional video: "Don't copy what I do just make your own".

Then maybe one day you'll be a well respected guitar player like Joe, Steve, John or Pat.

    Greetings from a drummer

  • this is like the Petrucci VIDEO

  • lol!!!

    yngwie taught steve vai!!!

    aaaaaaaaaahahahahahahha.

  • Joe taught Steve Vai. Steve Vai would actually tell you that.

  • anybody know what brand of hat that is?

  • it might be a custom made

  • have you even heard him life try to hear the band 3g and you know what I am talking about ........... my rating is that Joe Satriani, he is the king of guitar

  • Oops my mistake they called g3

  • GAP Hat JS nt

  • w000000000000ttttttttt

  • "im joe satritentips" XD lmao STILL HE IS GOD!

  • THE KING!!!!!

  • what are you talking about? he is a teacher to those with prior knowledge

  • Worst comment ive seen on youtube. You are truly nuts. Consult a psychiatrist NOW.

  • Paul is the most inspiring teacher ever. what are you talking about.

  • this was stolen from fearthecalm's page. That is the original post of this video to youtube.

  • 很好听~

  • Holy crome

  • siiiik guitar

  • daaaam lag of the video -.-

  • he's saying make sure the neck is in the webbing between your thumb and forefinger in order for the bend to be easier on your forearm and wrist.

  • nice guitar

  • 0:44 - point what? what he said?

  • I wish it wasnt so damn choppy, it feels like im looking through a damn photo album.

  • chop ped up presentation

  • your the best joe!!! x

  • he taught both Kirk Hammet and Steven Vai u dontknow how many lessons u didnt count them so stop being a wise guy and yes hellspark you are my online idle you at least understand fuckethead and bagio and herman gay are just stupid overated people only kids listen to them

  • err he actually did teach vai...

  • satriani did teach Vai per STEVE VAI. ...uh faggot. Through that in for good measure...lol

  • Satriani, did indeed teach steve vai. read up on it.

  • Satriani taught Vai. Also taught another guitarist that i like, Larry Lalonde of Primus. Satch said Larry was one of his worst students.

  • He taught Kirk Hammet of Metallica too, I'm pretty sure.

  • And the guy from Testament, he taught him too. Alex Scholnik? right?

  • no Joe Satriani taught Steve Vai

    He also taught Kirk Hammett

  • hahahhaha.

    u cant be serious. . ..

  • im not. just like fucking with ppl with the comments arguing about who taught whom. i really dont care who they were taught by.

  • Jesus taught Joe Satriani

  • no Joe Satriani taught Jesus

  • Nah! they just played in the same band

  • Why the stupid hat?

    Helpful though.

  • hes bald

    i guess hes cold

    XD

  • Pause at 2:13

  • It's fascinating to watch him warm up. He also gives really good advice, especially for a seasoned but rusty player like myself who's trying to get back into things.

  • loooooooooooooooooool 50 cent! hes a drug taking, woman abusing, rapper who raps about violence rape and murder...yeah great! you twat! This is a musical genius watch and learn someone who ACTUALLY has talent, and doesnt reply on a computer to writer his music

  • this guy actually gives lessons instead of showing off

  • that is why Satch rocks so much harder than the likes of herman li or batio...they show off, and its boring. Satch is more than a guitarist, he's a musician who applies his talent to make MUSIC, not shred over basic chord progressions and drum tracks.

  • Well, he did spawn two of the greatest guitarists of our time before he even got a record deal. Kirk Hammett and Steve Vai sound familiar?

  • of course! although, I don't think hammett learned much from him. he's great and all, and I know everyone has their own style, but... he sounds a little repetitive sometimes. but without that, it wouldn't be metallica :]

  • He only taught Kirk Hammett very very briefly.

  • ya, hammett should have stukk around for a few more lessons, then maybe his faster runs wouldn't end on a poor bend so often...

  • good lesson.

  • your ass is 50 cent

  • ur a fucking douche

50 cent is a fucking moron

joe has more talent in his eyebrows than 50 cent or any other rapper except 4 maybe immortal technique have in their whole bodies

    go die

  • your on a rockers video preaching about rap. stay on your own music favorite. so please keep your openion to your self

  • not to mention his account name is the name of Satch's new CD lol. Get a life and stop wasting our time!

  • I think someone hacked his account and started posting stupid comments. Didn't he post again saying he had to make a new one?

  • great way to work out fingering x) na...great lesson :)

  • Immaculate technique is how you make the electric guitar sound sweet.

  • man, how does he get that tone? lol

    its incredible

  • his tone is in his technique, no joke ;]

  • You said a lot with those 6 words. I have tried to explain to people about some guitarist. You cannot electronically mimic thier sound unless you can mimic their technique. A great example of this is SRV. So many try to sound like him, but I have yet to hear anyone who has his sound down perfect.

  • whatta shame about this glitch i have in my eyes!

  • yeh to dam bad to , good content, shitty video

  • joe is too cool!!!

  • i don't understand Figure 6

  • What don't you understand about it?

  • i don't understand what is that !! XD are cords or what, or wich cords or aaa IDK XD

  • hmm, I can explain it to you on aim if you want? Do you have AIM?

  • GL GL GL GLITCHHHH... to glitchy but he is kool!!

  • bad quality

  • You're bad quality.

  • i meant the video dumbass. how am i supposed to expand my shit when u cant see what hes doin every 3 minutes? dumbass

  • Sure go ahead and expand your shit. Niiiiiiiiice

  • Secrets from the master...gotta love it!!!

  • Haha i like the description.

  • damn that is a sexy guitar...

  • That is the chromeboy

  • FINALLY I HEARD HIM SPEAK!!!!!!!! ^_^

  • JOE SATRIANI THE BEST THANKS JOE YOU CHANGED MY EAR MY WAY TO PLAY ANDMY SOUL,.... MASTER

    roshi

  • Wow.

Hearing that bit at the end has made me really wanna start learning more scales.

    Sounds so nice.

  • Did this footage come from a dvd?

if so does anyone know what the title is please?

  • Nope, it's not a dvd... Anyway sorry for the quality of the video, I understand it's not the best quality you can find... but I thought to upload it 'cause these simple exercise are really usefull... probably someones are quite common but ... anyway...

    Cheers everyone!

  • Joe makes one odd comment: he says Lennie Tristano taught him to work on scale fingerings that covered the entire fingerboard. Lennie Tristano was a jazz pianist. Hmmm? I wish Joe had been a little clearer on this idea.

  • the fact that you play piano doesnt mean you can't play guitar

  • yeaahh..we can jus make out whast goin on.. but thnks for the upload

  • The video quality is horrendous. Good exercises though.

  • I wonder how much he charges for lessons.

  • nice joe but this viseo is a really bad quality

  • uhmm. f** quality. it's joe

  • Thanks Joe!

  • Does anyone know what amp\effects he is using?..

  • terrible quality.

  • man steve vai and satriani with their ibanez guitars... they pwn

  • not really there made of cheap basswood decent trems the neck though are just awesome not a big fan of there pick-ups either but it would be better if the guitars were made of walnut maybe some duncans and had ibanez' ZR trems on them that would make me blow a load:)

  • 6-string

  • is that a 6 or 7-stringer he's using?

  • his guitar signature is still the coolest at least ibanez series ever. via closely follows lol

    goot!

  • I would say the other way round. Both guitars kick ass though

  • super bad and lousy quality, should not have been uploaded

  • The video is too jumpy. You can't see what he's doing half the time.
