  • I would pay a lot of money to see this man perform live, am I right?

  • I'm in tears ! that just melted my mind... Magnificent beyond belief !

  • sister = mama

  • he literally just killed that song, that was absolutely amazing!!

  • that woman's baby jumped in her tummy ;) derek is great too YEAH

  • @jlskiful Was probably dancing to the great music :D

  • That is how an angel would play a piano, Perfectly!

  • a REAL virtuose!!!!!!

  • Derek is insane. I have been playing piano by ear for 15 years now and ive heard and seen a lot of players and he is by FAR the best i have ever heard. He may not have emotion playing, but his playing is PERFECT on every note.

  • What I would do to jam with this guy!

His is an inspirational story, and in it lies a damn good lesson!

  • The improvising (comment) caught my attention, because of the apparent contradiction of people with autism relying on routine. As a special needs educator we were told that people with autism love routine , need routine and react openly and sometimes harshly at broken routine, which says that either improvising follows more rules than you think, or this guy is so free from the box floats.

  • @MissBehavin1111 I've got a few tendencies that I can relate to autism with - being unaware of emotional cues and putting things in straight lines every chance I get. I wanted to comment on improvising and routine - I think (and this is my unfounded opinion) that autism is more about order than routine. Routine is one kind of order, of course, like putting things in straight lines is order. Music on the other hand is a very flexible order - the chords all interact in a way that makes sense.

  • That piano solo was insaneeeeeeee.

    I LOVED IT!!!! :D :D

  • @EricTheRed03 Which part WASN'T a piano solo? :D

  • savants dont have a cluster of self created problems taking up all their attention...so god can come out through the holes.

  • He is just amazing!!!!! This should show people that there definitely IS a God.

  • @koreanelvis04

Would this be the same 'god' that made him blind?

  • @Tharg i guess it would be...the oxygen is what made him blind and when one looses a sense the other senses become stronger...God works in mysterious ways

  • @Tharg he wasnt born blind...he was born autistic.

  • @ZacL94, Derek was certainly born blind, he was born nearly 3 months prematurely, his eyes had not developed by then. The oxygen damage prevented any further development of the eyes after birth. The oxygen interfered with the neural development which also lead to Dereks autism.

  • I love singing the praises of this guy....so i'll say a different comment to keep it interesting.....the people Derek is playing with......LOL! are WAYYYYYYY out of his league....GREAT JOB DP!

  • it honestly looks like he smacks the keyboard and beautiful music comes out. He is the piano god

  • i cant believe he's blind :OO

  • just watch his left hand and look how hard that shit is

  • Derek has just become one of my favorite pianists ever! Amazing talent and such great musicality!

  • im clapping in an empty room!!

  • absolutely amazing!!

  • holy shit...he's just too great!!!!

  • 1:36 - 1:50 -- Good GOD man!

What impresses me most about Derek's is his improvising. His flourishes are downright amazing.

  • And the section around 1:10 - 1:30 makes my jaw go slack. The timing coordination between left and right hand is stunning to me.

He brings such joy to the music! Unpretentious, too. Dare I say...innocence?

  • At first I thought he got out of time during the first minute - but no - he knew exactly what he was doing. Brilliant.

  • dangleberries77, it is raw talent!

  • Is this Raw Sex?

  • hooray! one of my favorite songs!!

    this guy is awesome.

  • Derek truely has a beautiful gift and seems like a handsome young man. It's people like Derek and my brother Jon (who is autistic) that remind me that if they can over come thier obsticles...i can over come mine.

  • he is a genious, his abilities are unimaginable

  • Those right hand runds against the left hand Bossa are impressive...yeah :-)
