1 thing dis show focuses on mor than continuity or 'logic', is effect. Rarity lying, Luna w/ the archaic speak; dis show overshows things 2 its target demographic 2 get a point across. Bt Rarity lying wasn't just 4 effect, bt also another part o her character. U can use the '1st impressions' excuse if u want, but going on a rant & takin it back won't help your credibility.

& yes, Rarity seducing Spike 4 me was the iffiest part of the ep. Jus my 2 cents to help u out, hope dis helps.

One thing that bug me about Excess is that it's unclear how aware baby dragon Spike is of his actions as the beast dragon. And Rarity did manipulate him into giving her the gem, but like you say, she was clearly grateful, so it's ok for me.

You can rant till you are blue in the face for pretty much any ep of this show about the major lack of continuity this show has. It's just something I've come to accept by now, and you should to.

Way I see it with Rarity and Spike, she knows he has a crush and thinks its cute. That's as far as it goes.

3:05 my speculation to explain this is this: part of a snobbish mentality is not just a belief that having impressive accomplishments or connections attach to your name is a good thing, they also have to be that particular snob's own idea of what the "right" "accomplishments or connections" are, for all we know saying your claim to fame is saving the world from nightmare moon might be the pony equivalent of admitting you got your big brake on the X-factor at a showbiz party

Someone asked me about the lack of recognition of Rarity on this one and the possible reason is because she lives in Ponyville so much that Canterlot may recognize them, regardless of their heroic tactics.

It is a bit odd that Rarity isn't a little more confident around high society.

How many legendary Elements of Harmony does a pony have to bare before she earns a little respect around here?

Rarity did charm it out of him. She resisted doing it with all her might but much like Spikes Dragon instincts she couldn't help it happening naturally without her noticing it was going on. And really if we think about it it's all Cheeralee's fault in that episode that Spike did that since he and her NEVER spend much time together outside twilight's off camera interactions and yet she insists on giving him a present that isn't just food or telling him to stop by later at her house.

and from what I can get spike will grow the more stuff he has. so even if he never gets greedy again if he's just given stuff naturally that he can horde he's good to go.
