  • I first heard this during a high school retreat many years ago and it had a profound effect on me. It still does today. I have the Desiderata framed in my office and I read it frequently.

  • And God so loved the world.

  • how can some one dislike this?WTF

  • This sounds like Indian born Australian singer Kamahl. Beautiful deep rich voice, perfect for this kind of thing.

  • How very appropriate. I lost my job because of the economy and have been going through a lot of distress because of dark imaginings. This poem really brings back that sense of nurturing strength of spirit in this sudden misfortune. I AM A CHILD OF THE UNIVERSE!!!!! I will STRIVE to be happy....

  • @rvhelm Dark Imaginings come from within but many times darkness come from an external source.. Depends on the circumstances. It is our duty to learn if the darkness is within or if it is coming from an external source. Regardless, we should not let that darkness distress us!! As the song says it, " Strive to be happy..."

  • @rvhelm ... and whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the Universe is unfolding as it should.

  • Absolutely beautiful. Thank you.

  • Wear clean knickers for one does not know if one might be in an accident.

  • Ed Ames I think

  • It once was my inspiration to fight for the world peacefully.

  • Peace ... what a wonderful word ... what a heavenly feeling.

Thank you for this beautiful video.

  • Timeless inspiration portrayed in a beautiful video. Thank you very much!

  • If you like this song, then you should REALLY listen to DANIEL O'DONNESL'S version. You'll love it!! It beats every other version I've heard!!r

  • This is Kamahl but he is not an Australian Aborigine - he was a migrant to Australia from Sri Lanka.

  • I love this poem sooooooo much. It makes me feel so at ease after listening on a dailey basis. Its perfect!! #awesome. I thank you for this (inspirational words of wisdom for the mind, body and soul)

  • Anybody know the location of the mountain vista at 2:58 to 3:09?

  • I cannot thank you enough for putting this out; I had it as a favorite - not terribly long ago. As I was checking my favorites today I noticed this was gone and there was that grey ghost icon. This is so beautiful and there is truth in every line. I may even already have on a post somewhere on here. Again, just the most perfect and inspiration poems ever. We shoud heed the wisdom from these words and endeavor to lead a life we can be proud of. Thank you!

  • So that may we believe about the purpose of our existence here on Earth...

  • Wonderful insights expressed within this poem. This poem will always be relevant - no matter the year - be it 2011 or 3011 because the shortcomings, high ideals, and excellence of humanity are constants. As long as people remain upon the earth those constants will also. Exquisite poem for the ages. Thank you for a wonderful post.

  • This was so beautiful and I loved the video too.. I will be keeping this where I can find it easily.. Thanks for sharing your time and talents!! ;)

  • I received the book from one of my mother's friends when I was in my early teens. At that time I did not understand the full meaning of the poem. I do now. I had to hear it and feel grounded again.

  • This is the original and very best version...I raised my children and then my staff by these words and continue to do so for myself and my own spiritual journey and everyday hurdles.

  • The world would be a much better place to live if the human race simply followed these words...

  • Thank You ~ Namaste :)

  • Veramente bella!!

  • You can save it to your favorites.

  • How can I download this?

  • @HermyNess I think you need to embedded?

  • @HermyNess .. click share and copy the URL and paste to keep vid (open keepvid.com). i choose medium flv...then check your "downloads"

  • @HermyNess use firefox and its downloadhelper add-on. google it

  • @HermyNess If you are using Firefox, the easiest way I know of to download YouTube and other videos is to use Video DownloadHelper. Depending on what programs are already on your computer, you may also need to download one that's capable of playing the video once you've downloaded it. I've found that FLV Player usually works quite well for most videos.

  • @HermyNess i have the same problem and i found out u just need to download (free)real player and make it your default media player. from thereon u can just click the pop up info(download this video)at the upper right corner of the video you're watching/playing..enjoy. thanks to you tube, i am able to download my favorite songs(past and current).

  • @HermyNess download atube catcher. Its a youtube video catcher software

  • @HermyNess use Mozilla Firefox. There google "download helper add-on for firefox", and install it. You'll have to restart firefox, and then visit this page. There will be circles wih colors in top of the page - click it and you'll be able to download this .)

  • To all my friends;

Please listen and understand the thoughts of this poem by Max Ehrmann you can learn good lessons in life from this poem..

  • My favourite song of all times

  • I think the narator is Kamahl the Aussie singer

  • unknown poem which brought us to meaningful realization...

  • ES FANTASTICO AGRADESCO A DIOS EN EL MOMENTO QUE LA ESCUCHE ,MI VIDA SE HA BASADO EN UN MONTON DE ELEMENTOS QUE AQUI SE COMENTAN Y LAS COSAS HAN MARCHADO DE LO MEJOR CUANDO PIENSO EN LA PAZ QUE EN ELLA ENCUENTRO.

  • The gentleman reading this beautiful poem sounds a bit like actor James Earl Jones. I remember loving this song when it first came out in the early 1970's & I still love it today! I've already to my family that I want this song and "Turn! Turn! Turn!" by the Byrds to be playing @ my funeral. These are certainly very wise words to live by!

  • I love this poem...is this Sean Connery speaking? Excellent music and photos. Watch, listen and get inspired!! Joy

  • @jl2bc8twv I do not remember the name of the singer. The only thing I remember he is from England. Very tall black man. Yes, indeed he sounds like James Earl Jones.

  • @MsVerparacreer Great,,I wonder why the blacks in the UK don't use the EBONICS excuse when speaking.

  • @THEMOJOMANsince1959 Historically, most black people in USA came from the South and that's how they speak English in the South. This history of the Black migration from the South was tumultuous: lots of disintegration, discrimination and oppression. Consequently separated as a racial group they kept the English learned in the South from decades. Southern English is not less than English spoken anywhere in the USA, unfortunately it has been portray as a lesser form.

  • @MsVerparacreer Jamie Foxx.

  • It sounds like Count Dooku from Star Wars...LOL.

  • @jl2bc8twv

the man doing the narrating is an Australian Aborigine. his name is Kamahl. this is on his album "Somebody Loves You".

  • This is the best inspirational poem I've read and memorized by heart since I was 13. I remember, I went to my friend's house to console uncertainty when I unexpectedly read this poem posted on their wall... Right then, God has given me the answer.... I posted it at my room door for my bros and sis to read it too. I read it back from time to time especially when I'm feeling down. It made difference to my life.
