Yeah, definitely sounds like the "Powered By The Cheat" version of Strong Bad. In fact, if there was a PBTC-style adventure game, I can imagine the script being of a similar quality.
Kings Quest V was one of the first "full-talkie" games. They probably didn't have the budget to hire voice acting so they used a bunch of the programmers to do the voices, this is probably one of them. Roberta Williams does a bunch of the voices in the game too.
I think it's the frowning... and that its voice sounds like a raspy old man with narcolepsy. Wolves are supposed to be mean and scary. This one sounds like he should be wearing a helmet.
